Gamlin Whiskey House
Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere. Can’t wait to return!
Very attentive service and efficient kitchen. We were done earlier than expected.
We tried to order at least a half dozen things that they did not have available. If you cannot stock your restaurant properly don't put it on the menu. Our service was slow - our drinks that we ordered 5 minutes before our appetizers arrived after our appetizers so we were eating our food with no beverages. I had to go inside to grab the valet who could not be bothered to come out and then he returned my keys to me after he parked the car and told me I would have to go get my own car at the end of the meal. They also charged $6 for this privilege. I would not recommend this restaurant and will never set foot in again.
We had a work group entertaining an out of town VIP and none of the wine we ordered off of your list was available. That's just lame: bad inventory management and carelessness - and proof that you may not even care about making a profit. Restaurant 101: having the crap that's on the menu. there were other mistakes and errors that were forgivable - but that stunk. Zero excuses folks. Plenty were offered though.
Food was average at best for the price
I always love coming to Gamlin Whiskey House. My sister and her husband were in town and we wanted to give them a great taste of STL.
The waitress, unfortunately, was more interested in another table, while taking our order. The bourbon that my husband ordered was not in stock (three tries!) and finally the bartender came and spoke to him to discuss other options (we did appreciate this).
I would just like to suggest that when an order is being taken, the waitress try to be a little more attentive to the table she is taking an order from.
Overall, the food was excellent!
Had brunch on 3/17. Great food, exceptional whiskey selection, very personable staff and fun patrons.
Food is perfect and it is not noisy!!! We can actually have easy conversation with companions, no yelling across table!!!
We had a lovely dinner, our wait staff member provided me excellent options for my dietary restrictions.
The food left a great deal to be desired. Pleased with the servers that helped us and if I came back again it would be only for that reason
The whiskey selection is outstanding. I am a bourbon drinker and the many options were great. The cocktail menu was quite large with an amazing selection of wonderful drinks. We started with the Hot Chicken appetizer, which I highly recommend. Some of the best hot chicken I have had. My main course was the 14 ounce filet, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The filet could be cut with a butter knife and was wonderfully flavorful. The others in my group has the scallops and the beef medallions and found them to be fantastic as well. The staff was very friendly and a lot of fun. It was a wonderful evening at a place to which we will certainly return.
My experience at this restaurant was completely ruined by my waiter. Our meal began by sitting for 20 minutes without anyone coming to our table, even to fill our water glasses. May I add that the restaurant was not busy at all. Once a waiter came over, he simply said "what do you want." Did not say hello, ask if we had been there before, etc (which we had not). We ordered our drinks and then he did not come back again to take our food order. Finally we saw him walking by our table, so quickly said "excuse me we are ready to order when you have a moment." He gave us a hand signal and kept walking. He did not speak to us or come by our table except when forced to by delivering food. When he did deliver the food he would quickly set it down and leave, making sure not to say a word to us. He did come back once our drinks were empty, not to ask if we wanted another, but to quickly grab the glass and leave without saying a word. I feel badly that this one employee not only ruined our lunch, but my thoughts towards the Gamlin Whiskey House as a whole, as I would never return. Worst service I have ever received.
We had a fantastic dinner. Portions are larger so we did have lots of leftovers. Our waitress was very nice and informative. Great experience. We will be back!
Delicious food and very good wine. Nice helpful service.
Mediocre food and forgettable service. Had to ask for coffee, spicy sauce, jam. As we were taken to our table by host, first question was, Will we be drinking this morning? What a weird question.
This was the first time I was not there for brunch. You would think that a place that was named "Whiskey House" would poor drinks with whiskey that was not electronically measured. I had a Moscow Mule. If it were not for the fact that I just believe the establishment would not purposely leave out the vodka I would swear there was no vodka in the drink. The cup was filled with with 70% ice. I'm over 60 and accustomed to bars and restaurants that pride themselves on their product and therefore go out of their way to make sure that, if nothing else, at least the product that I'm trying to be known for would be outstanding. I have attended brunch there a few times and the drinks then also left you wondering if they realize "WHISKEY" is part of their name. The most disheartening part of the experience was the fact that the table where we were seated was about the size of the table that my 4 year granddaughter has with her doll house. It was not even large enough to accommodate the salad, the bread tray and the drinks. When the meal arrived, we were forced to combine them all in one plate for lack of table space. One glance around showed all the tables to be that size. I ordered Sea Bass and the meal itself was prepared quite well.
The restaurant was clean. The waitress was perfect. The food was exellent.Their selection of whiskeys was great i would suggest the bulleit 10 years aged.
Service was terrible, food was mediocre. The best thing was the drink that we had. Would recommend sitting at the bar, and ordering only drinks.
Nothing short of AWESOME !! Going to make this a regular stop when in St. Louis. This is fine dining done right.
I made a reservation for my boyfriend and I on a Saturday night after a performance at Powell Hall. Our reservation was at 11:15. When we arrived there was a table of very loud and intoxicated at the first table so I was relieved when the host sat us further back in the restaurant. Unfortunately even though there were very few patrons in the dining area, it took our waitress about ten minutes to get to our table. Our table was right across from the kitchen and was easily accessible through the main hall so I am not sure why it took so long. We planned to order a few drinks to start and decide on food later. We order two 1.5oz pours of Whiskey. The Whiskey I ordered, a flavored whiskey they no longer carried. I was really disappointed but ordered something else. She let us know that the kitchen was closing soon but we had decided we were going to stick with drinks, that seemed to be bothersome to our waitress. We waited at least 10 minutes for our first round, and when we wanted to order a second, we had to wait a while after we had already finished our first drinks. The second whiskey I ordered they also didn't have. As someone who likes to try different types I was really sad they didn't have the two I really wanted. Once again service was very slow and awkward to be honest. As someone who has experience in the food industry, I could tell the reason our service was taking so long was because she was completing her side duties in between taking care of our table. I would understand if we were closing the place out, however it was over an hour before close at this point. We had an employee run past our table, bumping into us and almost knocked one of our drinks over. At one point there was an outside door remaining open, as we were experiencing a very cold draft and I had to put my coat and scarf back on it got so cold. As someone who made this reservation to celebrate Valentines Day and have a nice night out with my loved one, it was extremely disappointing.
Steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium to medium well. It was not a $50 steak. Way too thin of a cut to cook medium rare properly. I had to ask where my second drink was after it didn’t arrive for 20 minutes. Not worth the premium price.
Excellent all round.
This place has potential, but it is not well run. Plus side: the cocktails are very good. Problem 1: we arrived for our reservation (a little early) and they said our table wasn't ready and we could wait in the bar. When we had been waiting about 20 min and well after our res time, I looked in the back seating area and saw several open tables, asked the hostess if we could be seated and she said, "Oh, yah. I didn't know where you were." Really!? We were about 10 feet away from her in the bar, where she had asked us to wait. Problem 2: we were seated, never told who are server was, and no one came by for 10 minutes. We flagged Emily, who said she was not our server, but would be happy to take our order and put it in and then find our server - thank goodness for Emily. She returned later saying the other waiter was busy, so she would just be our server. Problem 3: my husband ordered his steak medium-rare. It arrived well-done -- and this is supposed to be a steak and whiskey place. The manager noticed my husband wasn't eating his steak and asked about it; they said they would replace it and have another out quickly. Apparently too quickly, since the second one came out rare, but at that point my husband just wanted to eat, and at least it was somewhat edible. My steak came out medium, as ordered and the sides were good. The steak was decent but a little thin and fatty, not what you would get at Flemings or J. Gilberts, but priced the same. On the plus side they did comp us a dessert. As for the atmosphere, it just seems a little run down and plain. It does however have a drop ceiling, so it at least helps with the noise level and makes it easier to converse. Bottom line: it's a good place to stop for a drink, but if you want dinner, for a similar price and much better food, go to J. Gilbert's.
The drinks are great. Nice whiskey selection. My filet was rare to med rare when ordered medium. No butter with lobster tail?? And my wife’s sea bass was a little under cooked. At the price point, I expected more. Valerie, our server, was great. When I didn’t notice my house salad was made of kale when I ordered, she swapped me for one with lettuce. We’ll go back, hoping they just had an off night. If it’s no different, then there are better choices.
Delicious food, friendly staff, and our server was exceptional.
Our waitress was fine. We did not get our food for over an hour. Drinks were slow as well and did not have one of the whiskies we requested. My husbands 7ounce fillet was significantly smaller then my 7 ounce and my lobster was tough. Will not be going here again.
First waitress was “stoned”and could not remember what we ordered ,but later her trainer took over and all service was better
Staff is amazing great menu and food was spectacular
Second time there and it was delicious!
This was the worst experience I had ever!! It took over 45mins and then my order wasn’t right
Great meal everytime----moving away from st louis, will definitely miss this place!
The drinks and food were phenomenal as always. The Whiskey Proseco is a perfect winter night drink and the salmon was cooked to perfection. We usually love the beef medallions, but are trying to cut down on red meat so we tried the salmon and were not disappointed!
This was our second time eating here. The cocktails were wonderful! The food was very good. My steak was a little too done for my liking but still very good. I did not tell my waitress about the steak. I’m sure had I told her the restaurant would’ve fixed it. I would definitely eat there again.
Our table as a whole was disappointed in our various meals. This was uncharacteristic of this establishment.
All good except it took 20 minutes to recieve drink orders.
Our waitress Kari was great...food and drinks where slow coming out
We had dinner here on the Friday night of big snowstorm in St Louis. So, not a lot of people out & about but bar was lively and they had a bar setup outside on the snow covered patio. A pretty good crowd outside drinking hot toddy(s) and "hot chocolate." Lots of fun. And the food was good, too!
Customer service was not the greatest William if I'm not mistaken was his name he talked very fast cut you off when you were asking questions for it to be my first time there me and my husband will not be attending again
No complaints here. The cocktails, steaks, and service were great. We will be back.
