Gamlin Whiskey House
Service was terrible. This was our first time there to eat and we'll never come back. After we were seated, we waited for our food for 2 hours. That's unacceptable. I will say, after the ridiculous long wait, I was pleased with the food. However, we have busy lives and cannot wait 2 hours for our meal to be served. There were many people complaining of the same horrible wait.
Easter lunch. The kitchen was overwhelmed as our server informed us. She was very nice and did a good job under the circumstances.
We went for Easter brunch. We sat on the patio and had a lovely meal. Our server was pleasant and prompt. The food was outstanding; my daughter had the chicken and waffles and I had the quiche of the day. We will definitely be going back.
we were 4 people and we had a reservation. We got the table right away because it was not full, but the service was very very slow! Some dishes like salmon was no longer available at 8pm! and the drinks came in the middle of the food! The food was good though! they probably need to hire more people!
Not a great experience - food was ok but should be MUCH better for the price. Waiter was friendly but not very attentive. Dessert was awful - bread pudding that was literally 1/2 inch high. We won’t be going back.
Fantastic experience for 15 year anniversary. Gave a intimate but low key experience
We love to hear this! Happy 15th anniversary from all of us at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Got there for a late bite after checking hours online. Despite all info we obtained online, the kitchen was already closed by the time we walked in .
Neat place for drinks, but food is really not good... very pedestrian
I'm a foodie and Gamlin's food was just okay. Maybe because it was a Wednesday night? Regardless, for the price, everything should have been outstanding. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly, charming, and made the dining experience really nice. There was only one other couple in the inside dining room, so it was very quiet. I'm sure this is not the case on the weekends.
Drink menu is excellent.
Love to hear this! Hope you'll join us for drinks again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Food was good but took over an hour to get it.
Thank you for this feedback, JD. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your dining experience, and hope you'll join us again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
The food was good. The service was very slow. It took close to 40 minutes to get our food.
Thank you for this feedback, Michael. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your dining experience, and hope you'll join us again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
There are better steaks for less money at many other restaurants in the St. Louis region.
We appreciate this feedback. Hope you'll give us another chance to impress you in the future. Cheers!
Been to Gamlin House before. It never disappoints. I like having some nice bourbon before dinner. We took our grandson, who is only three. The staff was great with him. Everyone enjoyed their meal also. I will be going back.
So happy to hear you and your grandson enjoyed your visit, Randall! Look forward to seeing your family again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Our family booked a table for brunch and arrived about ten minutes before. We were told a table wasn’t ready since we were “early”. After being sat, it took about ten to fifteen minutes for a server to come by. When she eventually did, she explained that she thought we were waiting for one more person since there was an extra menu on the table. Why not ask? Or at least come by to inquire if we would like water? From there on, things proceeded to get worse. The wait time to get mimosas, to actually get our order taken and the food delivered. Usually I am willing to give grace to places when they are particularly busy but I also expect a modicum of service and some sort of acknowledgement of the state of things. It took almost an hour for two people to get an order consisting of breakfast items with no check in from the server. As we were preparing to leave, the plates arrived. The food quality in no way made up for the wait. Hands down the most disappointing dining experience we’ve had in a while and that’s saying something.
I love Gamlin's brunch and anytime we have the chance to come here on a weekend, I take it! The food and drinks are always superb! This past Saturday, however, we had a reservation for 11am and were not seated until 11:35. I understand having to wait when it's busy, but when guests have a reservation, the restaurant should be able to seat guests within AT LEAST 5 minutes of their reservation. That was rather disappointing - especially because I was going with a couple people who had never been before; I think they got the wrong impression of the restaurant. Luckily, our food was great and our server was awesome.
Great for brunch! Awesome mimosa's! I'll be back :)
So glad you enjoyed your brunch, Gracy! Hope to see you again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere. Can’t wait to return!
Very attentive service and efficient kitchen. We were done earlier than expected.
We tried to order at least a half dozen things that they did not have available. If you cannot stock your restaurant properly don't put it on the menu. Our service was slow - our drinks that we ordered 5 minutes before our appetizers arrived after our appetizers so we were eating our food with no beverages. I had to go inside to grab the valet who could not be bothered to come out and then he returned my keys to me after he parked the car and told me I would have to go get my own car at the end of the meal. They also charged $6 for this privilege. I would not recommend this restaurant and will never set foot in again.
We had a work group entertaining an out of town VIP and none of the wine we ordered off of your list was available. That's just lame: bad inventory management and carelessness - and proof that you may not even care about making a profit. Restaurant 101: having the crap that's on the menu. there were other mistakes and errors that were forgivable - but that stunk. Zero excuses folks. Plenty were offered though.
Food was average at best for the price
I always love coming to Gamlin Whiskey House. My sister and her husband were in town and we wanted to give them a great taste of STL.
The waitress, unfortunately, was more interested in another table, while taking our order. The bourbon that my husband ordered was not in stock (three tries!) and finally the bartender came and spoke to him to discuss other options (we did appreciate this).
I would just like to suggest that when an order is being taken, the waitress try to be a little more attentive to the table she is taking an order from.
Overall, the food was excellent!
Had brunch on 3/17. Great food, exceptional whiskey selection, very personable staff and fun patrons.
Food is perfect and it is not noisy!!! We can actually have easy conversation with companions, no yelling across table!!!
We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit, Katie! Hope to see you again at Gamlin Whiskey House!
We had a lovely dinner, our wait staff member provided me excellent options for my dietary restrictions.
The food left a great deal to be desired. Pleased with the servers that helped us and if I came back again it would be only for that reason
The whiskey selection is outstanding. I am a bourbon drinker and the many options were great. The cocktail menu was quite large with an amazing selection of wonderful drinks. We started with the Hot Chicken appetizer, which I highly recommend. Some of the best hot chicken I have had. My main course was the 14 ounce filet, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The filet could be cut with a butter knife and was wonderfully flavorful. The others in my group has the scallops and the beef medallions and found them to be fantastic as well. The staff was very friendly and a lot of fun. It was a wonderful evening at a place to which we will certainly return.
So happy to hear you enjoyed your visit, Joel! Hope you will join us again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
My experience at this restaurant was completely ruined by my waiter. Our meal began by sitting for 20 minutes without anyone coming to our table, even to fill our water glasses. May I add that the restaurant was not busy at all. Once a waiter came over, he simply said "what do you want." Did not say hello, ask if we had been there before, etc (which we had not). We ordered our drinks and then he did not come back again to take our food order. Finally we saw him walking by our table, so quickly said "excuse me we are ready to order when you have a moment." He gave us a hand signal and kept walking. He did not speak to us or come by our table except when forced to by delivering food. When he did deliver the food he would quickly set it down and leave, making sure not to say a word to us. He did come back once our drinks were empty, not to ask if we wanted another, but to quickly grab the glass and leave without saying a word. I feel badly that this one employee not only ruined our lunch, but my thoughts towards the Gamlin Whiskey House as a whole, as I would never return. Worst service I have ever received.
We had a fantastic dinner. Portions are larger so we did have lots of leftovers. Our waitress was very nice and informative. Great experience. We will be back!
We love to hear this, Kari! So glad that you enjoyed your dinner, and hope to see you again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Delicious food and very good wine. Nice helpful service.
So happy to hear this! Hope to see you again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
Mediocre food and forgettable service. Had to ask for coffee, spicy sauce, jam. As we were taken to our table by host, first question was, Will we be drinking this morning? What a weird question.
Thank you for taking the time to share this review, Jennifer. We are sorry to hear you didn't have a better brunch experience, and appreciate you taking the time to provide this detailed feedback about the service issues you encountered. We hope you will give us another chance to WOW you in the future. Cheers!
This was the first time I was not there for brunch. You would think that a place that was named "Whiskey House" would poor drinks with whiskey that was not electronically measured. I had a Moscow Mule. If it were not for the fact that I just believe the establishment would not purposely leave out the vodka I would swear there was no vodka in the drink. The cup was filled with with 70% ice. I'm over 60 and accustomed to bars and restaurants that pride themselves on their product and therefore go out of their way to make sure that, if nothing else, at least the product that I'm trying to be known for would be outstanding. I have attended brunch there a few times and the drinks then also left you wondering if they realize "WHISKEY" is part of their name. The most disheartening part of the experience was the fact that the table where we were seated was about the size of the table that my 4 year granddaughter has with her doll house. It was not even large enough to accommodate the salad, the bread tray and the drinks. When the meal arrived, we were forced to combine them all in one plate for lack of table space. One glance around showed all the tables to be that size. I ordered Sea Bass and the meal itself was prepared quite well.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us, William. We appreciate your honest and detailed feedback, and hope you'll give us another chance to WOW you in the future. Cheers!
The restaurant was clean. The waitress was perfect. The food was exellent.Their selection of whiskeys was great i would suggest the bulleit 10 years aged.
Service was terrible, food was mediocre. The best thing was the drink that we had. Would recommend sitting at the bar, and ordering only drinks.
Nothing short of AWESOME !! Going to make this a regular stop when in St. Louis. This is fine dining done right.
We are thrilled to hear this, Tim! So glad you enjoyed your visit, and look forward to seeing you again at Gamlin Whiskey House next time you're in the area. Cheers!
I made a reservation for my boyfriend and I on a Saturday night after a performance at Powell Hall. Our reservation was at 11:15. When we arrived there was a table of very loud and intoxicated at the first table so I was relieved when the host sat us further back in the restaurant. Unfortunately even though there were very few patrons in the dining area, it took our waitress about ten minutes to get to our table. Our table was right across from the kitchen and was easily accessible through the main hall so I am not sure why it took so long. We planned to order a few drinks to start and decide on food later. We order two 1.5oz pours of Whiskey. The Whiskey I ordered, a flavored whiskey they no longer carried. I was really disappointed but ordered something else. She let us know that the kitchen was closing soon but we had decided we were going to stick with drinks, that seemed to be bothersome to our waitress. We waited at least 10 minutes for our first round, and when we wanted to order a second, we had to wait a while after we had already finished our first drinks. The second whiskey I ordered they also didn't have. As someone who likes to try different types I was really sad they didn't have the two I really wanted. Once again service was very slow and awkward to be honest. As someone who has experience in the food industry, I could tell the reason our service was taking so long was because she was completing her side duties in between taking care of our table. I would understand if we were closing the place out, however it was over an hour before close at this point. We had an employee run past our table, bumping into us and almost knocked one of our drinks over. At one point there was an outside door remaining open, as we were experiencing a very cold draft and I had to put my coat and scarf back on it got so cold. As someone who made this reservation to celebrate Valentines Day and have a nice night out with my loved one, it was extremely disappointing.
Steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium to medium well. It was not a $50 steak. Way too thin of a cut to cook medium rare properly. I had to ask where my second drink was after it didn’t arrive for 20 minutes. Not worth the premium price.
Excellent all round.
Thank you! Hope to see you again soon at Gamlin Whiskey House!
This place has potential, but it is not well run. Plus side: the cocktails are very good. Problem 1: we arrived for our reservation (a little early) and they said our table wasn't ready and we could wait in the bar. When we had been waiting about 20 min and well after our res time, I looked in the back seating area and saw several open tables, asked the hostess if we could be seated and she said, "Oh, yah. I didn't know where you were." Really!? We were about 10 feet away from her in the bar, where she had asked us to wait. Problem 2: we were seated, never told who are server was, and no one came by for 10 minutes. We flagged Emily, who said she was not our server, but would be happy to take our order and put it in and then find our server - thank goodness for Emily. She returned later saying the other waiter was busy, so she would just be our server. Problem 3: my husband ordered his steak medium-rare. It arrived well-done -- and this is supposed to be a steak and whiskey place. The manager noticed my husband wasn't eating his steak and asked about it; they said they would replace it and have another out quickly. Apparently too quickly, since the second one came out rare, but at that point my husband just wanted to eat, and at least it was somewhat edible. My steak came out medium, as ordered and the sides were good. The steak was decent but a little thin and fatty, not what you would get at Flemings or J. Gilberts, but priced the same. On the plus side they did comp us a dessert. As for the atmosphere, it just seems a little run down and plain. It does however have a drop ceiling, so it at least helps with the noise level and makes it easier to converse. Bottom line: it's a good place to stop for a drink, but if you want dinner, for a similar price and much better food, go to J. Gilbert's.
