Gamba Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
I gave only 3 stars for service because of the hostess---she was not very cordial. The restaurant was busy and the men who brought the food to the table were gruff. The waitress was pleasant and efficient but the rest of staff seemed hard-pressed. The food is quite good and well presented, cocktails were great.
OVERPRICED for at best, MEDIOCRE food! This was the same reason when we at here about 6 years ago, but it we as the place the person hg acing a birthday wanted to try. Their U4 prawn was mushy and seemed like it had been refrozen before. The $30-Paeia was quite salty leaving your mouth always thirsty along with very tiny mussels and clams. The lobster ravioli was so expensive for such a very small amount of pasta with a cream sauce that was not very good tasting. And the only thing good was the OVERPRICED veal and the very basic balsamic vinegar brussel sprouts. We would've had money for our money at CIAO BELLA in Schereville, Indiana just 10 minutes away from Merrillville, IN. Warning---just save your money and go elsewhere!
Truly a local gem. You could tell there was some pride in the chef's preparation. Our appetizer, the prawns, were a bit over-cooked. The second course, pasta, was heavenly. The tomatoes used were grown on the side of a volcano in Italy. The rabbit was cooked to perfection.
I love Italian restaurants and go to Italy often. Gamba is tops. Benito the owner gracious, menu items were varied and just plain wonderful. I tasted all four of our table's orders and all were truly great. our waiter was the most knowledgeable and helpful as any I've ever had. all in all I heartily recommend Gamba.
Chosen for proximity in NW Indiana, vs nice places in Chicago, but TRAFFIC.... UGH!
Nice location for our anniversary!
The one small private room has had a party of 8-10 each of the 2 times we visited, and looked delish and fun. Great service and food! Solid wines ( could use more by-the-glass options)
will go again and highly recommend. Higher end price-wise, but great special occasion place!
Wonderful business dinner as usual. Other than the fact that the bar seats were reserved (unusual for any restaurant), our experience was exceptional. Mr. Gamba is a very gracious host. Food was excellent all around. We tried a little charcuterie for sharing; good prosciutto and excellent cheeses. Flat iron steak with peppercorn demi glace and duck fat fried frites was perfectly cooked, as were the filet and the duck breast. Excellent wine selection. Our waiter was very good; not hovering but quick on service.
One of the most genuine and friendly restaurants we've ever been to. The flavors are spectacular and the Barolo was excellent. We visit NYC twice a year and the whole experience here is equal to their best. I had the tagliatelle with lobster and cognac cream sauce. Ridiculous!!
I just moved to NWI from Chicago last year. This is by far the best restaurant in the area. Definitely on par with the finest Italian restaurants in River North and Little Italy. Great meal from start to finish! And nice cocktail and wine list. Friendly staff and inviting ambiance as well. Looking forward to sitting outside in their interior courtyard next time!
I am 100% Italian, and this is some of the best food I've had, including Italy and the U.S.! The gnocchi can't be beat; fish and rabbit specials outstanding!! Super Tuscan was fabulous, and wine list is very diverse and complete. Outstanding dining experience!
The waitress was awful. She had no personality and immediately tried to get us to buy a whole bottle of wine. We ordered an appetizer and "discussed" what we were thinking abut ordering and asked to wait until after our appetizer was finished. The next thing we knew 2 dinners arrived, even though we hadn't actually ordered yet. Since they were not even remotely close to what we would have ordered, we sent them back and actually ordered. $23.00 for ravioli should be how you like it. At that instant she got an attitude and pretty much ruined our experience. We will not go back.
A diamond in the rough. This absolutely amazing Italian restaurant is hidden in and industrial area in Merriville,IN The decor and building are beautiful. The staff is attentive and friendly and the food is amazing. I would strongly recommend giving this place a try.
Very clean, nice decor, staff made a very good effort and presentation.
I will return, I was expecting a little more traditional Italian, but was pleased with the chefs combination of flavors and professional presentation.
It was a Thursday evening and not many people in the resturant.
