The worst New Year’s celebration ever! The place was nice and elegant but did not offered the spirit of warm and happiness for this type of occasion. The bartender’s knowledge of common drinks and his selection of cocktails were limited. The staff was friendly but limited and slow.
The food was good and well priced but this type of restaurant should not be promoted among the best 10 places in Galveston to have a New Year’s dinner celebration. It is good for a funeral!!
Probably one of the best Sunday champagne brunches we have been to in years!! Great service, great value, only $116 for four, including bottomless mimosas, prime rib, snow crab, smoked salmon, baked salmon, breakfast items, build your own pasta, build your own ommelate, really nice. This 110 year old hotel has been very successfully remodeled including outdoor heated saline pool and hot tub, great fitness center, history hallway with old pictures of the Galve when it first opened. The entire property is repainted, air and heat individually to each room work flawlessly! Beds are very comfy with premium linens. Before booking with another third parties always call hotel direct for best rate.
I booked a reservation through Open Table for Brunch with Santa on Dec. 17. I couldn't have been more disappointed! Mostly frustrated for this waste of time, where I could have chosen to eat anywhere else. But I chose this event because of Santa. This was an event for my 2 year old granddaughter to see Santa. My son and I had been building her up for this for a couple of weeks.
We arrived at 12:30, and my granddaughter was so excited. She caught a glimpse of him leaving the lobby area. One of the staff members said, "oh you just missed him." So my son and I checked in and were seated. We took turns getting our food at the buffet line. We wanted to at least enjoy the meal for the time being. But still no Santa mingling about. I caught a glimpse of him sitting in a chair in the lobby. We heard bells jingling and my granddaughter got excited again. I saw Santa walking through the buffet area to go to the back. We waited another 30 minutes, but no Santa anywhere.
I called the waitress over for the check. By that time, Santa was clearly absent so I asked when he would be back. She said she'd ask. When she came back to us, she said he was not returning, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. So for two hours to eat at the price I paid for two glimpses of Santa, you can bet I'll never be back, for this event or any other. No announcement, no message from the waitress like, oh you might want to get up from your table and go see Santa now - no nothing.
We thought Santa would walk around to say hello and interact with everyone. He did not!! We never saw his face. Children and families were still dining, but Santa was nowhere to be seen.
My son and I were more disappointed than my granddaughter, as she didn't know he was gone. But we did, and this whole event just for her. The waitress brought an elf toy over to her because Santa wasn't coming back.
So $100 down and we got food and an elf. For $4.99 I could have gotten her a happy meal and a toy at McDonald's!!!
We loved going to the Galvez for the special Prime Rib Night, which was a benefit for the Salvation Army. The food was exceptional, and the wine was divine! We loved our server, Nanette - she made the experience very special. It was also a Birthday celebration, and she brought a special Birthday dessert for my Husband. Thank you, Galvez and Nanette!!
This was our first time enjoying Sunday brunch at the Galvez. The spread was enormous and had something for everyone including prime rib, seafood, omelets, waffles, pies, and more.
Everything we sampled was delicious, and we will definitely be back. Probably wouldn't bring the kids as the cost is moderately high, but the quality of the food was excellent and was a lovely setting. Best Sunday brunch in Galveston!
Went there for my mom's birthday because she was excited about the prime rib special. Sadly, the experience was just okay and the manager left a bad impression. Service was slow despite there being few people sitting down to eat. They changed their policy about parking and treated us poorly when we explained we didn't know about the change. Trying to get our car out of the parking lot was time consuming and we were hung up on twice when calling the front desk.
Ambiance was great with the live jazz band playing in the bar area. Our server, Justin, was very attentive. The Prime Rib special was a good value. While the prime Rib wasn’t as tender as I would have liked, it was adequate. We were celebrating a birthday and our server personally decorated the cake plate which was quite nice. All desserts were great! Validated valet parking is provided by the restaurant. Nice evening and we will return.
Second time visit here. Food selection is excellent. Great salad bar, fresh baked goods, cold boiled shrimp (already peeled!), oysters on half shell, two types of soup (gumbo is good) bacon, sausage links, eggs benedict (get them fresh, otherwise pass on them) omelette station, waffle station, several types of vegetables, prime rib/ham carving station and several tables of desserts. Endless champagne or mimosas while you're dining. Service has been very good. Ask for a window seating so you can watch the ocean. If you qualify, the senior citizen's discount saves you a bit. Best part is you don't feel rushed at all. An earlier reservation helps to insure you are able to sample all the choices. At 1:30 pm they stopped replenishing the carving station.
Couldn’t hear the live music over the function going on next door, as the door they chose to use is the one directly across from the dining room. The server was not prompt and didn’t know the menu. We had serious allergy concerns as the Au Gratin potatoes had egg in them, which is not normal. Luckily as a guest I saw it, the waiter was “not sure” and the manager didn’t care. This is my second time dining here and ultimately my last. The service and the ambiance does not reflect a 4-5 star dining experience, or the price point being a 4-5 star establishment.
The restaurant was open and nicely lite. The service was great and checked back several times to ensure that everything was fine. We were there for the prime rib special and the prime was tender and juicy. We will definitely be back to this restaurant again.

This was supposed to be the best brunch place in Galveston (it may be but certainly not comparable to the Houston brunch options). I must say we were disappointed. The food was very good but this is a buffet and felt like a cattle call. We had reservations but had to wait in a line of well over 50 people to get seated. The server did not know how to get us a bottle of Champagne that was not included with the buffet. They finally were able to make this work but was not easy to get done. Actually had to go get the manager to be able to open the cabinet. I would not recommend this for a special occasion. If you are in a large group it might be ok.
