Galvez Bar & Grill
Service was exceptional in a beautiful setting. Great meal!
The meat carving station was not edible as the "prime rib of beef was heavily "marbled" with fat. 50% un-edible. The other accompaniments for the meal were adequate but nothing really stuck out as was listed as 1 of the 10 best in Texas. The best on the spread was the shrimp. Respectfully the rest was adequate, but nothing to write home about. I'm sorry if this insults, but it's not meant to but to honestly critique management to look into improving on something that could be a great establishment for great dining. I'm sorry, I can't in good conscience recommend this brunch/buffet to a friend.
Probably one of the best breakfast brunch/buffets I've been to. The only two issues I had (and they were quickly and professional handled by the staff) were our initial seating was in the ballroom, and it was absolutely freezing in the room. We were about to leave and our kind waitress found us seating near the buffet line - loud, but warmer, so no complaints. The second thing would be to have some way to let the patrons know what is included with the brunch - drinks, juice, milk, mimosa, bloody Mary, etc...we were unsure what is comp and what is extra (and are still unsure). If anyone is on the fence between this and The San Luis - NO CONTEST...Galvez wins hands down!
I have been to brunches and buffets all over the world in 5 star locations. This was the best. I intend to bring my wife here soon.
Went for the AYCE fried shrimp- it did not disappoint. Quite good. would return. I wish they had a better wine list- it is pretty limited for such a grand hotel.
Nice place, needs cleaning and painting. Was somewhat disappointed in the level of service. It was a bit steamy inside. Shrimp was good.
My friend and I went for the special “All you can eat Shrimp” dinner. We were a little bummed to find out that it was only offered from 5-8. Our reservation was at 8:30. The chef fixed us a plate anyway, we just couldn’t get seconds, which is okay, because the serving was plenty and we even took some home!
The fried shrimp were delicious as were the show string potatoes! I wish the mango coke slaw had been more than just 2 bites. Also delicious!
Our server was new, but witty Nd charming.
Great ambience with live musician at the piano!
Will definitely return!
Went on their all you can eat shrimp special night! Great service by our waitress, Nanette. She was friendly, helpful, smiling and engaging. We are IBC’s and it was wonderful to see Nanette prompting our Island to the couple visiting at the table next to us! Great food and great service, as always!
Excellent food, great service!
Dinner on Saturday was amazing. Good service good food. Sunday brunch was an over priced joke. The lines are so long you loose intrest. The food was bland and boring. The deserts were tasteless. My wife liked her custom omelet and I liked the cheese selection but that was it. Pass on brunch. Get the lunch or dinner.
A must do when in Galveston!!! A++++
Our server went above and beyond, there were so many choices of different foods. All hot and fresh. The mimosas were a wonderful treat as well
AMAZING AS ALWAYS! Food was delicious, service was impeccable, everything was phenomenal!
Best brunch in Texas!! Highly recommend it for anyone in the Galveston area!! Great food and great mimosas! There is nowhere better for Sunday brunch!!
The food was excellent. Fresh, hot and delicious. Great variety and selection of brunch items. The only negative is that you have to be patient and wait in line since there is only 1 side of the table to serve from. Hotel lobby was very hot and humid so waiting in line for the restaurant to open was uncomfortable. Once the line opened, it moved quickly. Worth the trip
I had a wonderful lunch with my wife and food and service was great !!
Delicious food. Buffet food was fresh . Nothing sits for too long on the buffet it’s always being replenished. The wait staff are very attentive to your needs but not annoying. The dessert corridor is amazing. My only negative would be that on my recent visit the cakes I sampled were not as tasty as previous visits.
Disappointed that no blue crab
First trip to Galveston, had stayed for 2 nights at another hotel before the Sunday brunch at the Galvez. Immediately checked out and booked a room for our final night there. All future trips will be at the Galvez.
The waiter was great ! I felt that I had first class service in this restaurant. Even I didn’t stay at the hotel but I always wanted to go in the Galvez Hotel. I love the elegant decor and in the future I should stay in this hotel. If I am just commuting then I would eat at this restaurant again. It’s a good place to have an early birthday lunch. Finally, I love the professionalism of the staff.
worth it for a special brunch with special people!
I decided to treat myself to brunch at the Galvez because I have heard such great things about it since I moved to the island. I’m not going to say I was impressed nor disappointed. Some dishes were delicious, but overall I wouldn’t say I cannot wait to return. My service with Joselyn however, was exceptional. My biggest complaint was that it was uncomfortably warm. I literally was perspiring while trying to enjoy my meal. I was told to request the terrace room if I ever returned. Again, overall I had a good afternoon, but wasn’t wowed enough to spend the money that I did to return.
My wife and I are on vacation and the Sunday brunch at the Galvez is always at the top of our list. Teodor, our wait staff, was outstanding.
Although the food was good and the ambiance nice we were disappointed that there is a reservations' line and there were long lines for the buffet and its stations. The majority of food items are on a number of tables all together, so if you only want salad or something in particular, you still have to wait in line or risk people thinking you're cutting in line. Also, the buffet and reservation lines extend by the front entrance, which causes a bottleneck as people come in the door. Food was good, but not spectacular; service by Teodore, was excellent; hotel is beautiful, but could be much better organized.
The Sunday brunch was amazing. Food was terrific and our server was so helpful and made it a great experience.
Wonderful Sunday brunch. Staff was helpful, friendly and service was wonderful. All I expected and more. The dining room was charming. What a nice day.
We were seated in between 2 large parties who were totally inebriated. They were extremely loud and only used foul language. We had kids with us, and they did not need to use an excessive use of the “F” word, including inappropriate behavior. Our server Annette tried to apologize multiple times. My wife complained to the manager, and he replied, yes these are regulars, and we are considering banning them from the Galvez. It was an awful experience.
At $100+ for two people, we felt Galvez Sunday brunch buffet was overpriced for what it was. Being in Galveston, we expected more fresh seafood and fish than what was on offer. The prime rib and other beef dishes were excellent. In the end, we were underwhelmed by the value and would not return as long as the buffet prices remain that high.
We had dinner reservations and canceled them after lunch. There were two of our four friends at lunch. The food was good but nothing to write home about. I had the calamari and seafood Cobb salad which were good - lots of shrimp but not a lot of crabmeat. The calamari was good but not very hot - mild warm. I was a little taken aback when the Server wasn’t aware of putting dressing on the salad. My friend’s burger, she said was good and the fries were awesome. I ate the leftover ones - they were crispy, just very good. Also, I ordered the Jean Lafitte specialty cocktail off the menu and the server came back to say they were out of coconut milk. I thought it strange being lunchtime on a Saturday. We were early for our reservation and were seated probably right at our reservation time. They appeared to be changing from breakfast to lunch but there weren’t very many people in the restaurant. Maybe one fourth full. It was all just ok.
It was a great experience and I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day meal.
The Galves Bar and Grill was the perfect place to celebrate after our son's Texas A&M graduation. We had a perfectly prepared lunch and excellent service. The Manager, Matt Wilson, was welcoming and accommodating. The Galvez is a special place with memorable ambiance that we return to whenever we come to Galveston.
Took my mom for an early mothers day treat and we both loved it. The food was melt in your mouth good, I had so many crab legs lol. The desert table looked like something out of a magazine and everything was delicious. We had a table with an amazing view of the ocean. Our mimosa glasses were always full. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it.
Sunday Brunch - very busy. Good selection. Crab legs had way too much water. Dessert table looked like a war zone, I guess there wasn’t enough staff to keep up.
We had brunch with a friend. We were celebrating her birthday. We had a delightful time. The food was excellent. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. She never made us feel we were sitting there too long. We did visit and eat for over 2 hours. It was a wonderful experience.
The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. Our server was very friendly and warm as well as helpful with the menu and wine as well. The appetizers and food were both excellent and served in a timely manner. The dessert was a generous serving of some of the best bread pudding I have ever eaten. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend. Great for a special occasion or if you just want a fine dinner with a very nice atmosphere.
Overall a very good brunch. You will definitely get your moneys worth. The crab and smoked salmon was excellent. Some of the food was blah but there were so many options I’m not to broken up about it. Our server was kind and attentive, lots of mimosa refills and plates were cleared quickly. Would definitely recommend.
Our service could not have been better. We were seated conveniently, one of our members is handicapped, and she was well accommodated. Choices of brunch buffet were excellent, with all stations fresh. This Sunday Brunch is always consistent. Loved Guest Chef Lance! Adding an extra valet would help, as the valet station was backed up to the street. Unusual, but when the Sunday Brunch is happening, and guests are checking out slowly, it would help.
We were staying at the Hotel Galvez for a getaway weekend and booked the brunch at the hotel. Everything about it was AMAZING! The spread was incredible in options and was eye appealing in the way it was presented. The food was all very tasty. Our favorite was the bread pudding—truly “to die for”. I highly recommend this Sunday brunch!
The food and experience was way more than we expected. So many quality options.
Heaven, our waitress was the best.
We were never wanting for anything and yet she was not intruding.
Everything about the experience makes us want to come back for another visit.
Can’t wait to return!
Food is good, but the service was bad... They took forever to bring the food to the table and the service from the waiter is not the best. Also, you guys need to have a host at the front.. My wife and I wait for about 5min to be greeted by restaurant personnel.
Appetizer arrived cold, entree arrived whilst we were eating the appetizer, so we sent it back and when it came back it was of course cold and hadn’t been remade. Drinks took forever to arrive
