Gallo Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is always good, all our friends that we have taken there for the first time return over and over for the same reason. the owner is always there and you can tell. the food is consistently good and so is the service. if you are going to a concert or to the movie theater down the street this is perfect for that.
Gallo is a great location for dinner before a show at the Ridgefield Playhouse. We had attentive service, great food (halibut special, pappardelle, steak) and could have a 4-way conversation on the enclosed patio. Will be a "go-to" dining destination before future Playhouse shows!
Gallo has become our go-to restaurant when we just want a great meal. It never disappoints. There are always interesting and delicious specials to supplement the menu, there are excellent yet reasonable wine by the glass choices (try the Montepulciano) and the atmosphere manages to be both cozy and elegant - so good for the special date night and the weekend dinner when nobody wants to cook but you still want a really tasty meal. The chef manages to make meals that feel homey (no pretention) even when quite creative and not something you would actually cook at home.
Starting with the valet who was not pleasant at all to going in and our table was not ready for 20 mins after our reservation. The hostess didn't seem to care that our table wasn't ready. Our waiter seemed to be busy so the service wasn't good. I also didn't get the dish I ordered.
A very disappointing evening and we will not return.
We were happily surprised to find this gem of a restaurant in Ridgefield. Each of the five diners were thrilled with their meals. Appetizers were all excellent as was the Caesar salad. Each main course was outstanding; both flavorful and the perfect quantity. We already have another reservation for our next outing!
I'd made s reservation and requested outdoor seating. We arrived on time only to be told we'd have to wait for an outdoor table. This was on a Monday night so the regular dining room was dead. So we sat at the bar and had a drink. After more than a half hour the hostess told us our table was ready. When we walked out to the terrace we found there were several available tables. Clearly she had forgotten about us sitting at the bar. The food was delicious as always but it all made for a much later Monday night than we'd planned for. Not a great way to treat regular customers. Hoping our next experience runs smoother. Still a fun spot and good reliable food.
Poor service. We did not have our drink order taken until ten min after we had been seated. Thereafter, we had two servers repeatedly duplicating each other's efforts. Still, they botched our order, then blamed us for the miscommunication. We were never argumentative or even accusatory. We let it go, but the server saw fit to mistakenly lay blame, which was rude and unprofessional. Food was fine, but subpar relative to price points. Restaurant needs to do better job training staff. We were not made to feel welcome and staff showed no remorse for errors. Will not be returning.
Overall, very good. I frequently go to this restaruant, and when I made the reservation, i had informed them that it was my wife's and mine 30th Wedding Anniversary. They made a note of it at the time, but never even mentioned it at all while we were there. A bit disappointing.
We come to this restaurant often so we brought good friends that had not tried it. Our server was so attentive and she and my friends spoke Portuguese so they bonded over this. The food was very good. My friend order pasta with mussels and a lot of the mussels did not open. We brought it up to the attention of our server and she took it off of the check which we did not expect nor did we request it so it was extra nice and caused a great impression on our guests.
Had a lovely night out with dinner at Gallo then music at the Playhouse. First time visiting restaurant from 1-1/2 hrs away -- arrived 45 min. early at 5pm and were seated no problem. Heard mgmt pep talk to staff and house PA music start up. Our server was plenty attentive and very friendly but not overbearing. We started with a dry gin martini and G&T, both fine. Very nice bread basket with warm freshly baked fat moist slices, cheddar points and thin crispy breadsticks. First course: I had lightly dressed salad with baby arugula, beets, candied walnuts, and goat cheese--excellent. My partner had Caesar salad--very good. For main course we each had a special: mine a medley of trofie pasta (narrow twists) with a tasty pesto sauce, shrimp (not over cooked) and calamari, ringed with mussels and little neck clams in the shell. The staff brought over a bowl of water with mint leaves and orange slice to rinse my fingers--nice touch. My partner had a beautifully presented halibut filet on a bed of cooked spinach, piled with chopped avocado, black olives, cherry tomatoes and topped with shallot crisps. The house Merlot was passable--mild spice and dry but not very complex. The house Cabernet Sauvignon was a step above, with nice round berry highlights. Finished with our favorite bourbon, Basil Hayden's. Accommodating staff brought take-out container of ice to keep leftovers cold through show and long drive home. Atmosphere comfortable, not too loud, patrons (couples, older folk, multi generational family groups including some kids) warmly greeted and all seemed well cared-for. Would definitely return! (Dropped $200 here for two for Father's Day, so I'll save it for a special occasion!)
