3rd time visiting in last 6 weeks! Fantastic food, great service, made for a fun evening! Will def become a regular.
Food was very good and lasagna was above average but shrimp on skewers was fairly plain.
Gallo Nero was okay, just okay. Sometimes I feel there are missed opportunities and this would be one of those experiences where I saw lots of them. Let’s start with the setting. Decor was very plain, so much so I wasn’t able to escape the feeling I was in a cramped first floor space in a mixed use building in the overpriced Pearl district. The underwhelming dessert case is crammed up next to the front door with a very narrow walkway along the bar. Not sure you can walk through without turning sideways to get by the bar on the right and table seating on the left as you enter the restaurant. The food was okay too. The menu doesn’t appear to stray far from the standard high priced Italian fare you get in such neighborhoods. My date’s polenta starter looked so plain and dry, four yellow triangles stacked on a white plate. I had wanted to try them when he ordered, but when they came, I decided against it. My pear ravioli were hard and floating in plain butter with sage. No seasoning and a few sad sage leaves, not the billowy fresh pasta with amazing flavorful filling I was hoping for. Dessert sampler, you guessed it, two plain slabs of cake, one a very dry flourless chocolate cake and a dry tiramisu, on a white plate. I drank water and more water with this meal, starved of flavor and moisture. I even resorted to drowning my ravioli in Parmesan once I resigned myself to getting no flavor from their filling. My advice to Gallo is to save precious floor space by storing cakes in back, garnish, season, and use your ingredients in more modern ways. My advice to diners is to go a few blocks over to Mucca where the food is so much more delicious!
Amazing experience, great atmosphere, great service and the food was just unbelievable
We tried one 4 course meal special and a few items from the regular menu
By far the best authentic Italian food in Portland
Definitely reminds me of the trips to Italy
Great overall experience
We’ll be back
One of favorite places for authentic Italian/Tuscan food.
Always friendly service, great food, and pleasant atmosphere.
Nice menu , , good food, great service , we ordered wine by the glass & it was a rather small pour. I would advise buying a bottle or bringing your own and paying the $20 corkage fee
Lovely little restaurant with great food. Reminded me of restaurants in Europe.
I had the fixed menu dinner... 4 courses of delicious dishes that were just the perfect size !
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Friendly staff and service. Excellent fixed price menu!
Great place in the Pearl
