Galli Restaurant SoHo Ratings and Reviews
Food was good. Portions are small. Pasta is cheap so we were all surprised at how little we got. None of us left full. The appetizers were small also. You can’t share an appetizer. Actually each person would have to order an appetizer, salad and entree to feel like you had a meal and not a light dish. Food tasted good. And I liked the staff and atmosphere but next time would order more.
Saturday lunch in a casual, brick walled high ceiling room. The space was bright and cheerful. Service was attentive including a host who checked out coats and wet umbrellas. We had the grilled calamari (on bed of arugula) and the mozzarella chips (only 4-5pcs) , both very good. Friends ate various pastas and a burger, all very tasty nicely done. Highly recommend the penne vodka and baked eggplant.
Read a lot of reviews about the bad front door people and wait staff- totally not our experience last night. The gentleman at the front door was behind fantastic!! From the second we entered he was gracias and super professional. Speaking about professional, our waiter and his team also were amazing. So attentive and genuinely interested in our wellbeing..
Truthfully the food was fine, nothing to write home about , but the service made our night.
The food was fantastic and drinks were wonderful. We'll definitely be back! The place has a great vibe and is nicely appointed as well.
The service was okay, at times frustrating and rude, at times just fine. The place was pretty tightly packed in the back dining room and that too on a Monday night, so do keep that in mind if you take a big group. We were a group of 10 and packed in pretty tightly, but it got significantly better as the night went on and the rest of the patrons filtered out leaving us plenty of space and much less noise.
Loved it! We ordered the baby rice balls, Caesar salad, gnocchi, branzino, and berries dessert and everything was Divine! They also remembered I had mentioned it was my birthday when I made the reservation and surprised me with a little trick candle in the dessert :) our server, Gabi was awesome too. The bus people were a bit too quick at removing our silverware and left us with too few forks a couple times lol but no biggie. Perfect for a group of friends. Will be back!
Upon entering the restaurant it was loud and the space is very small. There is one bathroom for over 100 people! The table was ready when we arrived, but the servers seemed in a hurry and expected us to know what we wanted right away! It was so loud as well very difficult to hear the servers as well as the person sitting next to me. The food was bland. Worst Gnocchi (under cooked) I have ever had. My husband had the kale salad- very little dressing and piled so high on a small plate that the food was falling off the plate as he ate it.
This place is a must for me everytime I visit the city. The baby arancini are my favorite. They are little but delicious and filling. The sandwiches and pasta are amazing! Authentic and tasty. Make a reservation because this place is little and fills up fast. Enjoy!
I had made a reservation about a week and half before our monthly get together with my girlfriends. Our reservation was at 6:45 and one of our friends was running about 5 min late., The hostess was incredibly rude. didnt want to check our coats or sit us. and was quick to point out that she had a reservation at 8 for our table and we would need to be done with our meal before then. I was SHOCKED! when we asked 3 times to get out coats check she finally did it and when we were seated she said again we will need this table at! was extremely poor service on her part. The food was good, we felt a little rush and uncomfortable for our holiday gathering!
I loved the atmosphere of this place. Went with three other girlfriends, had three dishes and two bottles of wine. My friend and I both had the Chicken Francese at the recommendation of our waitress. I should have stuck with my original thought of having the Roast Chicken and Veggies. The Francese was pretty bland and the chicken relatively dry. The vegetables it came with needed a good amount of salt and pepper to flavor.
My other friend had the burger and truffle fries and really enjoyed it. I tried the fries and they were delicious!
My last friend had the Branzino and she really enjoyed it. I'm thinking I just ordered the wrong dish.
I would give this place another try. The wine was delicious and the atmosphere at night was really nice.
Poor service - had called to let them know I was treating friend to a birthday dinner and asked if they could deliver dessert with a candle - wait staff never even asked if we wanted dessert. VERY DISAPPOINTING! And worst Caesar salad I've had in a long time
I would not recommend this restaurant. Food was mediocre and the pasta was served lukewarm. The restaurant was only half full but so loud we couldn't hear each other on opposite sides of the table. Best impression was made by the host who was helpful. Prices were high which would have been fine if the food was up to the quality that previous reviews suggested.
Where to begin? It was years ago when a friend recommended this restaurant so we decided to try it this trip to the city.
We were running late for a 7:00 reservation and called to say we were on our way with a slight delay. The hostess told me we would have our table only until 9:00. Okaaaaay. When we arrived she told us again we could only stay until 9:00. Ok,ok, I get it! Had she never said a word we would still have been finished and gone by 9:00, without her needing to totally tick us all off.
The ambience...take a brick wall and oppose it with a subway tile wall, run it down a narrow space, and turn the music up to club level. Then imagine a pair of swinging doors right beside your table with waiters running in and out, with a 100 watt lightbulb hanging from a fixture shining out through the windows in those doors into your eyes.
The food...gooey rice balls...did not seemed cooked. Aren't they like a specialty here? How do you get this wrong?
Service...nice waiters. They were trying to be good.
Overall, a poor experience and change is needed in this restaurant. Gordon Ramsay, they need you!
I have been here at least 10 times in the past 3 years and can say that I have not been disappointed once. The food is always top notch and the service is really great. You never feel rushed. Nor do you feel ignored. Just the right amount of attention so you enjoy your meal.
The food here is incredible (and affordable). I frequent this restaurant multiple times a month and always have a great meal. I usually get the meatball sliders and the Galli salad to share, and a pasta (they are all delicious!). One of my favorite Italian spots in the city.
