My overall experience was ok. It’s a beautiful restaurant and our food was really good. The downfall is the mannerism of the host, Amanda, at the door. I made reservations for my 30th birthday and thought it would be really nice as in service. When my husband and I walked in, Amanda was not friendly nor welcoming. I told her my name and reservation time, which I called an hour ahead to inform we will be running late but not all my guest; she gave me a very dry “oh yeah”. After being seated while my guest were arriving, the vibe was very tense as if they felt bothered with a gathering of 11 African American people. Amanda kept walking back and forth staring at our area with a very disturbed face. Once my birthday cake arrived, Amanda came over and acted like she wanted to accommodate my cake by placing it in their kitchen and then said “It’s a $25 cake fee”, which I was never aware of from the time I booked and also visited the location last week to see it in person. I asked her, $25 just to bring my cake in and she said yeah. I do thorough research before booking anywhere and also checked their site again when she told me. I asked for the manager and he took a minute to come over to see about my concern. Once he came, I reiterated the $25 cake fee and he said yes it’s a fee. I politely asked him was it on their website, he was very startled that I asked, and I repeated myself. He stated no it’s told at the time of booking I told him I was never aware nor told as many times Ive spoken with the other guy when I came and when I called to inquire a couple weeks ago. He did accommodate not charging the cake fee, which I politely thanked him. They also grouped up talking in the kitchen several times. Our waitress was ok. She seemed a bit on edge, maybe tired, but when she was asked did they have to-go boxes she said “for what” and was told it’s for my cake to be sliced and given to my guest. Will I return, not quite sure. We were all uncomfortable and felt unwanted there.

Very nice meal out with family! Definitely worth the price for a special occasion. The filet and Lobster Ravioli were delicious. We had peanut butter chocolate cake (a special), key lime mousse, and coconut creme brûlée for dessert.

It has been a while since our last visit to G&G. This used to be one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Birmingham. However, over the years it started to decline. It appears to have a new GM and executive chef with fresh menu ideas. Also, very aware of the trending vegan movement. It’s a wonderful space. The cocktails were delicious. It’s nice to have fine dining options on a Tuesday evening. Service was better than average. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese sauce and lobster was cooked well but extremely bland. Basically no flavor from the tomatoes or the sauce. Our entrees were absolutely delicious. My wife tried the vegan lentil and walnut loaf and it was actually quite good. I had ravioli with lobster and conecuh sausage that had a nice Smokey flavor. Dessert could use some help. My bread pudding was fine, but it wasn’t anything superb. My wife’s fudge flight was, not great. The texture of the fudge was not appetizing and the mocha version was completely bitter and unappetizing. It was like eating old coffee grounds. I believe G&G is still a good place to visit, but it’s just not as solid as it used to be.

I had a really good meal previously (the salmon was possibly the best I've ever eaten at any restaurant); however, in my opinion, the chocolate dessert which I ordered that evening was very disappointing and certainly not worth the price; that being said, I think my brother and friend who dined with me that evening had nothing but good things to say. Yesterday, for Sunday brunch I was totally disappointed in the dish which I ordered (an egg concoction listed first on the menu I think, served in a bowl, similar to quiche for lack of a better description, but seemed to have been over cooked, was dried out, and mostly tasteless-to be honest, I would prefer the Big Breakfast at McDonald's to that which certainly costs a lot less; I thought the Bloody Marys were fine, no problem there, and my companion seemed to enjoy his meal so I wished I had ordered something different to be sure; I would have ordered Eggs Benedict if it was on the menu, but was told by our waitress that it wasn't, so not a pleasant experience overall for me to be honest.

Took my wife for her Birthday Fantastic drinks, great fried green tomatoes, unbelievable strawberry salad. We had filets, which was perfect. Some very nice wine and finished with the Bourbon bread pudding. I must say we relaxed, we’re in rushed and everything was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back……

Went for my birthday around 6pm on a saturday. Ordered the pork chops, they came dry and flavorless but were topped with a sampling of bacon jam. On the side came blended sweet potatoes that truly needed at least a hint of brown sugar and the other side was equally as bland green beans. 3/10. Service was iffy but has great potential. Parking was questionable but available. Some would enjoy but i sure didn’t.

This was our first time at Galley and Garden, but it won’t be our last! My husband and I enjoyed the service, and the food was delicious. We were very impressed by the fried green tomato starter with pimento and lobster. Once the weather cools down, we want to return and sit on the patio. Highly recommend.

Never been before and went for BHM restaurant week. Great option to try various menu options and great value. Very friendly and attentive staff. Cute location in an old house that’s been renovated. Valet was available but we did a quick street park on the block.

Was visiting from Memphis and discovered Galley & Garden through research online which had glowing reviews so decided to try it! The renovated Merritt House, it’s decor, music and overall ambience is very beautiful and inviting - perfect place for a romantic night out. The cocktails were fabulous - the only downside is that the glasses were much too small - almost looked like shot glasses… would have preferred a regular size glass especially considering the cost. Food was excellent - especially the fried oysters, watermelon salad, scallop entree and bread pudding. Bartender Kailee was very friendly, attentive, and informative. We were highly curious about the upstairs area so she gave us a tour - an amazing, beautiful space that is an absolute must for larger parties or events. Will definitely come back again!

My fiancé and I celebrated our anniversary here, I will say that the experience was fantastic, the food was flavorful, and the value of what we got matched the price that we payed. However, two things keep this experience from being perfect. First, the cocktail I had was not good, I was honestly surprised because everything else was amazing but the cocktail. I know this may sound like an odd complaint but it tasted like straight alcohol, more like I was drinking pineapple vodka. My second qualm is small but the way our server carried himself did not match the vibe of the restaurant if that makes sense. I felt like I was in an incredibly upscale restaurant except for when my server was at the table, then I felt like I was at the local diner being referred to as “buddy” and my fiancé being called “sugar”. I want to emphasize the point that he was good server it’s just that his vibe didn’t match the restaurants.

We celebrated both of our birthday's. The whole dining experience from start to finish was excellent. We enjoyed our special occasion night out very much! Great job Galley & Garden!

Short ribs and pork chops were great! Wasn't a fan of the mushroom and walnut app. Key lime dessert was fantastic but the banana pudding was only pretty good. Drinks were strong, which is fine and wine was good. Overall, very good place to go but only if you are looking for fine dining and upscale.
