Gallerie Bar & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
It’s a hotel restaurant, not a first date or a date place. The food is good but not great. Reverb of the guests is annoying. We were WAY too dressed up at this place - to math the crowd. The restaurant tries to be fancy but has to compete with the array of guests. But do some noise canceling on the industrial setting - please! Generally did not match its reviews. Will not return.
We showed up 10 minutes early for our 8pm reservation, they sat up promptly at 8pm. So far, so good.
After 20 minutes of watching someone set up tables around us (which no one came to sit at) on Valentine's Day, I finally asked the manager if we had a waiter/waitress, to which he apologized and offered to buy our first round of drinks. Sounds good, in my book we're even.
We were enjoying our night out, and determined to not let crappy service bring us down. 8:45pm rolls around, and we finally receive our first (and only) order of drinks. Thank goodness! Despite being ready to place an appetizer order, our waiter bails...(the restaurant was not busy).
9pm - Our waiter comes back to take our order, feeling a little pressure due to time and the fact that we're paying for a babysitter and wanted to go out for a drink after dinner, we order our appetizer and entree at the same time.
9:30pm - Our entree comes (if you're thinking,"Wait were was the appetizer?", you're correct). The appetizer was "missed" due to the number of ROOM SERVICE orders they were fulfilling.
If I may digress for a moment, I will never go to a restaurant that operates from a hotel, how dumb was I?
I'm going to gloss over that fact that our entrees were undercooked, luke warm and bland.
9:40pm - Our appetizer comes out. This would have been annoying if the entrees had been enjoyable to eat. Thankfully for us, the appetizer was amazing.
9:50pm - They gave us a complimentary dessert to share.
I gave 2 stars for service and value, because our waiter was kind of funny and they gave us a free drink and dessert.
My husband and I chose Gallerie Bar and Bistro from a list of restaurants that had tables open during the dinner hour on Valentine's Day. We'd never dined there before, and were a little apprehensive that it might be hit-or-miss, given the sometimes spotty performance of hotel restaurants. I'm pleased to say that our apprehensions were unfounded, because this was truly one of the finest dining experiences we've had in Central Ohio in a very long time. Every bite of food, from appetizer to dessert, was brilliantly crafted, beautifully presented, and impeccably delicious. We also experienced convivial service from the staff, who seemed pleased and excited to receive our feedback. Our only complaints are exceedingly minor, as follows: the pace of service seemed a little "relaxed" to the point of where it would have been annoying had we in any way been pressed for time. Fortunately, we weren't, and found that the relatively long waits between courses helped us to get past the feeling of being uncomfortably full. Secondly, we didn't love the selection of background music, which seemed as though it were no more carefully thought out or curated beyond tuning into some local pop station (and our table sat directly under a wall speaker, so we couldn't tune it out). Overall, the effect of the music was "cheapening," and would be such a simple fix to elevate that someone really should take it into account. Last but not least, our small two-top was located in an area of the restaurant so dimly lit that we had to ask our server (the marvelous Barrackus) to provide us with a votive, which he did with great charm. Our impression was that every table ought to have one, and/or a floral arrangement, as both niceties seem clearly in keeping with the style and ambitions of the establishment. All that said, Gallerie Bar and Bistro is definitely on our radar to revisit, and we want to bring friends whom we know will appreciate and enjoy it as much as we.
Not wanting to eat too far away from Nationwide Arena, I decided to keep it simple, since this restaurant is inside the Hilton, was going to beat any crowd and didn't want to be late for the game! I had the Shrimp & Grits plus the Grilled Salmon, and both were extremely delicious. If I'm ever back in town for a hockey game, I'll get a dessert here next time (since I absolutely would return here) because the dessert options at the hockey game were somewhat limited. My hostess/server was attentive and friendly, and the presentation was excellent. I would absolutely recommend this fine establishment to anyone!
A hidden gem, great food and service!! We had appetizers, salads, entrees, and deserts and they all were beautifully presented and tasted great. Our service was also excellent. We will definitely go back and will tell all of our friends and family about too.
The New Years prix fixed menu left a little to be desired. We were really looking forward to the opportunity to dine here but it was a let down and the dining experience did not reflect the cost of the meal. When scheduling the dinner, with the limited availability, I believed there would be a packed house but there was only a handful of other tables occupied. As we all know, nobody wants to work NYE and the service clearly reflected that. The dining room is clean and the art in the bar area was really cool but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the food.
This place is one of the best restaurants in Columbus. In my opinion, it is better than any of the numerous Cameron Mitchell restaurants in the area that are consistently full. We could always find a table here, because the restaurant is hidden inside the hotel and one has to go through the lobby and up the stairs to find it. If this restaurant would be street front or on the top floor with views, it would most likely be always crowded.
Service was good we were in a rush and they accommodated well. Bar was slow, hung up on the fact I ordered a featured drink, was told they were out of one key ingredient but could substitute, I agreed. Server then returned to say they were out of second ingredient so drink was not available. We ordered 2 versions of a Manhattan (perfect and inversion). We are Manhattan drinkers so know what Perfect should taste like. This version pretty much tasted and looked like a straight and heavy pour of bourbon.
We had a causal dinner among friends. The restaurant was fairly empty except for a large private party, so we had a little bit of slow service at the start because of them. Once we got over that hump we had good service, good food and recommendations from the servers, and a nice evening.
Note: Be sure to use valet, which the restaurant will validate, as they will NOT validate self-parking in the garage.
Ate here four times during the week of October 23rd (attending a conference in the hotel). The food was very good (can definitely recommend the cheese burger and the smoked turkey sandwich), but the service was outstanding each time! A special shout-out to Marshall, Joshua, Isaac and Ryan, who took care of us like old friends each time we visited. Would definitely recommend!
Making a long story short, four of us had reservations at another downtown restaurant, only to be told a wedding reception would be sharing our dining area. So at the last minute we decided to go somewhere else. Not much was available on the same evening -- a Friday -- but Gallerie had many open times. We were a little skeptical of a hotel restaurant but made the reservation. How glad we were! This is a beautiful, contemporary open space on the second floor of the Hilton in the Short North. The menu is imaginative to say the least, but with interesting and delicious entrees. It features apps, small plates and mains. Each of the mains comes with its own sides. The food is very well prepared, and our server Omar was delightful and efficient.
I read a review that mentioned how empty the place was. On this night it wasn't packed, but it was nicely busy. The one downside is the construction going on in this area that makes it hard to get to. You must approach it from the north.
This is a restaurant worth anyone's consideration. We all agreed we'd go again.
