Every December, a group of us go out for a wonderful dinner before going to Joy for the big start to to our Christmas season. This year, after reading that the Gallerie Bistro was solid competition to the other amazing restaurant choices, we decided to go... reviews of the chef highlighted the amazing things he is doing with a "hotel" restaurant. I have never written a yelp review and our expectations were high...not unreasonable...and all of our meals were seriously less than average. 2 of us had the risotto...it had the consistency and color of a thick pea soup with little flavor. My husband had the salmon, it was done nicely but sat atop a mass of some thick, unidentifiable puree...it was like paste. My sister ordered the short ribs...be warned if you have a seafood allergy, your options are limited-which usually isn't a big deal because the food is good. The ribs were served cool and they were dry. The soup of the day was very good. The bistro salad had grains in it from not washing the greens. I hate that my first yelp review is so bad, but my husband and paid over $150 with a few drinks, and unfortunately, it was exactly what it is ...a hotel restaurant with unimpressive food. We had heard great things, and maybe it was a slow Saturday night and the kitchen didn't much care what went to the table, but with so many other options in the Short North...I would not recommend this. Sorry Chef Glover, I really was excited for your spin on hotel restaurants, but if this is what is being served every night, it wont compete with other places. If Saturday night diners are not given the opportunity to taste what you prepare other nights of the week, then that is truly disappointing.
Anna was our waitress and she did an excellent job
I made reservations at Gallerie as it was close to a show we were going to see - and it was added Open Table points. The food was good, service very good and attentive, but my party didn't think much of it. They had typical dishes and said for a Hotel restaurant, they had had better elsewhere. I had the steak and although cooked to my preference (med rare), it was room temp - although still very tender and tasty. Based on my party's comments, I will probably not go back. Just not for us
We had been to this restaurant last year for dinner enjoyed it very much. The menu has changed, and the food is less inventive but all right. I ordered a cocktail and the stem of the glass was sticky. The cocktail itself was overly sweet and just adequate. Service was very slow and distracted. We were seated at the side gallery which was very dark. If you go, ask to sit in the main room. This restaurant is good for conversation.
Very nice food in a hotel atrium environment.
We had a brunch reservation here and were at first annoyed by the $28 valet fee. So we found a space on the street several blocks away only to be later informed that they would have provided us with a voucher for the valet fee. But the Gallerie Bistro should advertise this fact up front. Of course people will drive away and look for on-street parking.
Brunch without toast? How odd! True there were bagels and small croissants and jam, but there was not a single piece of bread in the brunch buffet.
Do not order scrambled eggs or omelets; those eggs probably came pre-mixed in a container. You have to order poached or fried eggs to get real ones.
There were no towels or hand dryers in the women's rest room so I had to wipe my hands on a lot of toilet paper. Overall, I think this place is meant for a captive hotel audience and not for the Columbus citizen seeking to try a new brunch experience.
This was our first time at Gallerie and it was fabulous. Our server, Josh, was knowledgeable of the menu and drinks, and one of the food runners offered to bring us chips when we asked for a second serving of bresd, since they had ran out. I had the Ohio burger and fiance had the fried chicken sandwich. I loved my extra dirty martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives!
Incredible food. Great service
Wonderful food and wonderful service. Was thoroughly impressed with our entire dining experience here.
First off this website allows you to make reservations for brunch without the knowledge that the dining room closes at 12. Which was when we had our reservations for. and then the dining room was closed with a sign that says that you may have a seat in the bar, for food and beverage service. Why were we allowed to make these reservations for something wasn't even open?!
Amazing food! Amuse, small plates- 72 hr short rib and quinoa salad, main course - Rainbow Trout and Local Ribeye! Service was knowledgeable, quick and professional. The dining room is a gorgeous space and the bar is very fun and upbeat!
Great food, nice atmosphere, had to ask twice for appetizer. Appetizer came same time as meal:(
Best steak I've ever had
It was a nice restaurant and the waiter was nice. Food/buffet was mediocre and the environment just felt cold. I was hoping for more. Just average
We indicated in the reservations that it was a Birthday and they made no mention of it during our dinner. The place wasn’t busy and yet the service was still somehow very slow. Drinks kept taking forever and bread and some of the meals were never delivered.
So... this was my second visit to Gallerie Bar & Bistro. After attending a graduation at the convention center, we walked across the street.
We requested server extraordinaire Baraccus, because he is amazing, knowledgeable and fun. Totally awesome dining experience! We tried a variety of different appetizers because we were starving after the long ceremony. Just enough to not ruin our appetite for dinner. Each course arrived promptly and we devoured the beautiful food accordingly! The drinks and desserts are creative indulgences too, so save room!
A great birthday dinner for my wife and our 8 year old actually ordered a second round of frog legs they were so good!
Mother’s Day Brunch
It was a delightful experience. We went for Mother’s Day lunch and Matt was our server. He was top notch! The food was excellent as well - the Ohio burger was unlike any burger I’ve had yet, and I’ve tried many. SO yummy, I will certainly be back for more!
Went to Gallerie Bar & Bistro for Mother's Day Brunch - had a really good time. Plenty of food options, all well prepared. All the normal brunch standards (omelette station, carving station, basic foods) as well as other options. My daughter enjoyed crab legs, my picky son had more simple fare, and all of us enjoyed the excellent pastries. The service staff was really excellent, and delightful to talk to. Well priced for what we received. Saw some friends with very large groups (one who had a private room), and they also seemed pleased.
Food was well done. Service was friendly, helpful, accommodating. Ambiance was a little like being in the middle of a Holidome, without the chlorine smell and kids screaming. It is fine, but it lacked a little ambiance with all of the hotel rooms looking down on you. Maybe a Pergola type overhead might give it a little more sense of intimacy?
This was my first time here and was before a concert so it was probably busier than normal. However, the bar service was EXTREMELY slow - 25 mins to get a glass of wine. I understand being busy, but they should have staffed up for the occasion, not like it was a surprise. Also, ordered an appetizer that never showed up.
A group of girls came here for their dinner before Prom and were treated like royalty, even though they brought one extra and arrived in stages. Thank you for taking great care of them on this special night!
Our server was Barracus and he was amazzzing! Our group wished he could join us for dinner and drinks. He had great insight on every dish and his selections did not disappoint. My husband enjoyed the creative drinks, including one with absinthe. After watching "Girls Trip" we were intrigued.
Last , but not least, the food continued the restaurant gallerie theme. The presentation was spectacular. Almost too pretty to eat. Almost ; )
Would totally go again and soon. I hear the brunch is a hidden gem, we shall see!
Dinner prior to a concert. Restaurant was busy but waitress was maybe overwhelmed. She seemed to know the menu, took our drink orders then didn’t return for what seemed like twenty minutes. Another waitress came over and took our order then original waitress came back with drinks but then left again with our bottle of wine in hand. Never got our appetizer. It got to the point where it was funny. Had to ask for check twice before she finally left it. Probably not go back.
Had a great evening with friends. The food was great and the server was amazing. He made sure we had the best time and was very attentive. We will certainly be back.
Our 27th year wedding anniversary
Service was extremely slow, not the server’s fault
Great service and great food! We will make t our go to spot for downtown date night.
When we are in Columbus we always try to go to this restaurant. The Ohio chicken is outstanding. This time the wine list was not quite as extensive as in the past. The manager found us a great wine from an event they hosted. Good place to eat when you are in Columbus.
Quiet, elegant but modern space. Food was fantastic and the service spot on!
Great service! Ahi tacos and fried gougeres were delicious.
Conveniently located to park and walk to Nationwide Arena.
Didn’t realize located in the hotel. Food was good but modest portions. Stopped in before CBJ game. Bar looked to have atmosphere- the dining room just ok, comfortable just not much to look at. Older crowd probably enjoys.
It’s a hotel restaurant, not a first date or a date place. The food is good but not great. Reverb of the guests is annoying. We were WAY too dressed up at this place - to math the crowd. The restaurant tries to be fancy but has to compete with the array of guests. But do some noise canceling on the industrial setting - please! Generally did not match its reviews. Will not return.
Good place to hand while waiting for Pins if you want beer (only). Food is below average bar food. Crowded layout even if not full. Not a keeper, but may last while there is nothing else in the area.
We showed up 10 minutes early for our 8pm reservation, they sat up promptly at 8pm. So far, so good.
After 20 minutes of watching someone set up tables around us (which no one came to sit at) on Valentine's Day, I finally asked the manager if we had a waiter/waitress, to which he apologized and offered to buy our first round of drinks. Sounds good, in my book we're even.
We were enjoying our night out, and determined to not let crappy service bring us down. 8:45pm rolls around, and we finally receive our first (and only) order of drinks. Thank goodness! Despite being ready to place an appetizer order, our waiter bails...(the restaurant was not busy).
9pm - Our waiter comes back to take our order, feeling a little pressure due to time and the fact that we're paying for a babysitter and wanted to go out for a drink after dinner, we order our appetizer and entree at the same time.
9:30pm - Our entree comes (if you're thinking,"Wait were was the appetizer?", you're correct). The appetizer was "missed" due to the number of ROOM SERVICE orders they were fulfilling.
If I may digress for a moment, I will never go to a restaurant that operates from a hotel, how dumb was I?
I'm going to gloss over that fact that our entrees were undercooked, luke warm and bland.
9:40pm - Our appetizer comes out. This would have been annoying if the entrees had been enjoyable to eat. Thankfully for us, the appetizer was amazing.
9:50pm - They gave us a complimentary dessert to share.
I gave 2 stars for service and value, because our waiter was kind of funny and they gave us a free drink and dessert.
Cocktail was terrible (blue rose something). Server wasn’t very friendly. Not great for Valentine’s Day. I picked it because we had a great Valentine’s Day there a few years ago. Will not be returning for awhile due to most recent experience
My husband and I chose Gallerie Bar and Bistro from a list of restaurants that had tables open during the dinner hour on Valentine's Day. We'd never dined there before, and were a little apprehensive that it might be hit-or-miss, given the sometimes spotty performance of hotel restaurants. I'm pleased to say that our apprehensions were unfounded, because this was truly one of the finest dining experiences we've had in Central Ohio in a very long time. Every bite of food, from appetizer to dessert, was brilliantly crafted, beautifully presented, and impeccably delicious. We also experienced convivial service from the staff, who seemed pleased and excited to receive our feedback. Our only complaints are exceedingly minor, as follows: the pace of service seemed a little "relaxed" to the point of where it would have been annoying had we in any way been pressed for time. Fortunately, we weren't, and found that the relatively long waits between courses helped us to get past the feeling of being uncomfortably full. Secondly, we didn't love the selection of background music, which seemed as though it were no more carefully thought out or curated beyond tuning into some local pop station (and our table sat directly under a wall speaker, so we couldn't tune it out). Overall, the effect of the music was "cheapening," and would be such a simple fix to elevate that someone really should take it into account. Last but not least, our small two-top was located in an area of the restaurant so dimly lit that we had to ask our server (the marvelous Barrackus) to provide us with a votive, which he did with great charm. Our impression was that every table ought to have one, and/or a floral arrangement, as both niceties seem clearly in keeping with the style and ambitions of the establishment. All that said, Gallerie Bar and Bistro is definitely on our radar to revisit, and we want to bring friends whom we know will appreciate and enjoy it as much as we.
The food was delicious and the service was great! Perfect for our Valentine's Date!
Service was great. The food was amazing!
