Gallaghers Steakhouse - Manhattan
New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.
A trip to New York City is not complete without a meal at Gallaghers. It never disappoints. The steaks are always perfectly aged and cooked. The hash browns are the ideal complement to the meal and the wedge salad is fresh and flavorful. A new item on the menu that should be tried is the pork belly appetizer.
Gallagher’s was wonderful from beginning to end! We were seated promptly, had a wonderful open table near the kitchen, and the staff were great. Our waiter was fantastic!! He was polite, funny, helpful, and made us feel very comfortable. It was a graduation dinner and although we ordered other desserts, he also sent the graduate home with an additional complimentary dessert; so nice.
The food was also fantastic! We of course had steak, which was perfect, but the cessation salad, heirloom tomato salad, Mac n cheese and French fries were also perfect additions to the meal. Drinks were delicious. Can’t wait to visit again!
Cooking over Hickory coals may not be for everybody, but this dry aged New York sirloin was the best steak I have ever eaten. The ambience is that of an old-school steak house. We loved it.
Service and food was outstanding! Our waiter was very accommodating. For such a busy location it still felt very comfortable
Extremely slow service.
The waiter noticed our requests but were constantly ignoring us and keep going around or interacting with other guests
We ordered the rib eye steak. It was very flavorful but a little fatty.
Amazing amazing amazing!! My husbands first time to New York and there was only one place to go. They even brought out a cake to celebrate his 30th birthday. The food is sublime, the staff obliging, polite with some good patter too. It’s the best.
The service at this restaurant was incredible our waiter Juan was fantastic And that’s why I gave it such a high rating. I had the bone in ribeye tasty but now my favorite steak. It didn’t taste like a prime steak in Chicago. We also had the lobster and fillet which my daughter really enjoyed. Ask For Juan if you go
My husband loved this place. Excellent service. Lively and fun place. Food was wonderful (we each ordered the 10 oz filet) Huge servings. We'll go again.
Old time New York appeal. Excellent food and service. Our waiters were so fun and nice.
Wonderful pix fix lunch menu. Also recommend the 52 Old Fashioned.
Gallagher’s is a long standing schedule set of New York history that never disappoints. Our go to place each and every trip. One look into the meat locker and you will see why. Best steak in the city.
Food was amazing. The steak was up there with the best weve had. The service was good but felt that he painted every English/Irish person with the same brush. I asked for a coke to start and was met with a near eye roll. But the steak overruled every thing that was wrong!
A classic New York steakhouse with an old school ambiance; the steaks are superb and the waiters are attentive, but not overbearing. Start with a great cocktail and end with a perfect cappuccino and a delectable desert.
Old school restaurant with great steaks and outstanding service by long employed service staff. Patrick was outstanding!!!
My appetizer and steak were very good, but my wife's lamb chops were initially undercooked (served very rare when ordered medium). I had to eat my meal alone while they further cooked my wife's meal, which ruined the ambience for us. Then, the lamb chops were served burnt and overdone. The restaurant manager was very gracious, and obviously took the cost off the lamb chops off our bill as they were inedible and provided a fruit plate. Unfortunately, our dinner did not turn out as we had planned.
Pre-show dinner, four in total. Somehow our reservation was for two when it needed to be for four; they handled it seamlessly. Our waiter (Soto) was magnificent; patient, funny, knowledgeable, made recommendations....he truly added to the experience. The food was OK, certainly not bad, but not incredible either. Bacon special was very disappointing (fatty, not the thick bacon app one envisions at a steakhouse - pass on that). Salads were very good (I had chopped, it was plentiful - one of us had the beet salad, she did not like that one). Fish entrees were good (salmon the latter de-boned at the table, nice touch). Ribeye was just OK (at $56, that's not impressive). All in all, would for certain return to Gallaghers, proximity to theater, atmosphere that one is out on the town, still a nice night out.
The open kitchen provides a great look into what’s going on from plating to the brick oven with oak wood cooking the steaks.
Classic manhattan steakhouse atmosphere with fantastic cocktails.
this place has been around forever, and it is easy to see why - it is still great
They tricked me. With maybe a hundred racks of prime rib aging in view they will only cook it to med-rare, too bad if you want prime rib rare.
Rib eye streak is ok if you had your heart on prime rib.
Very expensive steaks were brought to the table cold.
Just excellent. Food and service impeccable. Recommended for sll.
We went to Gallagher's for a pre-theatre meal starting at 5pm. We have eaten there some years ago after the theatre and really enjoyed the prime rib. This time we were amazed to find that as early as 5pm they had run out of prime rib - apparently a lot of people had rung in to pre-reserve it. Hang on a moment - if people have rung in to reserve, then they can plan for the numbers. It seems that this is a restaurant that is not making an effort to satisfy customer demand. The Manhattan steakhouse that we ate at the previous night and they ad no problem serving prime rib at the late hour of 7pm. The steaks that we had at Gallagher's instead of prime rib were a Filet that was OK and a rib of beef that was not brilliant. So, in conclusion, service good, atmosphere good, food not particularly good, but the food is what matters most in any restaurant.
Great Steakhouse. Only Recommend. Great Dinner for Steaks
It was a great experience. Steak was cooked perfect but needed more salt.
Just a terrific place, every time
Great food and service
Gallagher's looks fabulous and is a lot of fun. Unfortunately my wife and I, who both had the slow-cooked bacon appetiser followed by New York sirloin, were ill for the next 36 hours, which put a dent in our 4 day trip to NYC. With drinks before and a bottle of wine, the bill was USD 350. It is a shame the website doesn't have a customer service email address so that we could have pointed this out without making an international call. We're not posting this on TripAdvisor as we'd like to think this event is unusual.
We’ve been here twice and both times the food and service were outstanding. A great place to celebrate a special occasion. Highly recommend giving this outstanding restaurant a try.
Great food and wonderful service It was Mother’s Day and we were served immediately.
Yes, I would recommend Gallaghers' Steakhouse. Our party of six enjoyed our lunch. Additionally, we have plans to return in the future.
Chose Gallagher's for a pre-theater lunch on Mother's Day, and it totally didn't disappoint! This is, frankly, such a terrible day to go out, I specifically wanted a long-running place with great servers who wouldn't be thrown by the holiday. Gallagher's was an excellent choice. There's a great lunch menu that includes a $30 prix fixe, and the food was delicious. Between us, we enjoyed a wedge salad, fried calamari, onion soup, a burger, and the steak sandwich. The only thing we didn't care for was a side of Brussels sprouts, which were bland and otherwise nondescript. Service from Tasso was on point. Spicy Bloody Marys were excellent. We'll be back!
Excellent steaks and great old school ambiance and service. Worth the trip to the city
Awesome! Great table service. Food was amazing! Will be visiting again.
We are repeat customer of Gallaghers. It is one of our favorite restaurants. The service and food are great, the atmosphere is welcoming and the entire experience is first class.
Fantastic high standards. Ordered spinach salad not on menu and if they have the ingredients. They make it for you. Strawberries come from contracted farm who seeds them just for Gallagher’s.
Very good quality food. Expensive but you have what you pay!
It's a most to go in New-York city trip!
My second time at Gallagher's, very disappointed. Reservation at 6:15, seated immediately. Cocktail order was slow, they apologized, later said they were waiting on glasses, didn't get blue cheese olives I ordered with my Martini but was good.
Ordered 2 prime ribs at 6:30, at 7:00 we were told only 1 left. What steak house runs out of prime rib by 7pm on a Saturday night, seriously.
Poke tuna appetizer was served at the same time we got our wedge salad, supposed to come first. Poke tuna texture was mushy so we didn't eat it.
Prime rib was good, a little dry for my taste.
Gallagher's? That old place? Let me say, they'll run late with seating sometimes. Then they'll try to put you in some dusty corner. But if you speak up for yourself, kindly, you'll find yourself in the lap of luxury. Attentive but not overbearing waiters, delicious and full drinks, and perfectly cooked expensive Prime Beef, brought piping hot. Excellent sides and too much dessert. The Spanish red by the glass is a great buy.
An especially sweet retreat on a rainy afternoon.
