About Gallaghers Steakhouse - Manhattan
Founded by former Ziegfield girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful gambler and sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927. At that time, the height of Prohibition, a good stiff drink and a great steak were hard to find in New York – except, of course, at Gallaghers.
New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.

Gallaghers Steakhouse - Manhattan Ratings and Reviews
I heard lots of good things about this restaurant from a Facebook group for NYC. Booked it for our anniversary when we were visiting at the weekend. Service was great, ambiance was perfect and the food was top notch! To top it off we received a small cake for two and a song from the waiters for our celebrations! I could not fault this place at all. Not cheap but 100% worth it
Food was amazing and service impeccable. The portions were large and enable the diner to share. Steak was cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding. Thanks to Adam our waiter who took the time to answer every question and make sure we were taken care of. Will definitely be back and will be sure to recommend the restaurant.
We celebrated my nieces 13th birthday at this landmark restaurant. The maître d and servers could not have been more gracious. The steaks and filet mignon were excellent. The Gallagher's potato chips excellent. The piped in music adds to the atmosphere. They surprised my niece with a personal birthday cake, which was very special. New Yorkers may have a reputation for being unfriendly and abrupt. This is absolutely not the case at Gallagher's. Thank you for a memorable 13th birthday and a great meal.
We ordered the porterhouse for 2, it was a great cut of meat but a little bland for my liking. We ordered it medium-rare and it was definitely more rare, still delicious. The creamed spinach was absolutely amazing. We also ordered Mac-n-cheese, is was just ok, very blah for the price and caliber of restaurant. We had the cheesecake for dessert and it was so good, it had fresh strawberries in a strawberry glaze, unlike most glazed strawberries that have been sitting in it forever.
Overall our experience was very good.
Valentines and Ash Wednesday so could not get the steak so I ordered the sea bass special. It was delicious My wife ordered the stuffed shrimp was was also very good. Food is always good. Sides are very large and can feed a table so be careful when ordering.
