Gale's Restaurant is a totally local spot. It offers remarkably solid Northern Italian fare just down the road from all the hubbub. Couples, families and friends that seem to have just finished a day outdoors snuggle among the brick walls and small marble tables, drinking wine from elegant Brighton goblets. Start it off with a Burrata Salad or a steamed artichoke and then move on to the country-style Tuscan steak or one of the house made ravioli specials. For dessert, don't miss the Tiramisu or the Coconut Cake which is uncommonly tasty. The wine list is a favorite among the guests for it's variety and excellent value.

Gale's Ratings and Reviews
It's been several years since I've been to Gale's and the other 3 people in our party had never been there. We had an early reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered 2 appetizers, crab cakes and a pizzeta. Entrees were generous and delicious--we all had a taste of everyone's entree and desserts were fabulous! Servers were attentive and were knowledgeable in the menu offerings. Everything was well prepared, delicious, and everything was as delicious as it had been the last time I ate at Gale's. Excellent service without being overbearing. We were celebrating a birthday and dinner was special and delicious.
What a gem! We were visiting friends in Pasadena and found Gale's on Open Table. The regular menu looked great but once we got there the daily specials menu was even more enticing. Everything was delicious and the service was spectacular. Wine list had many choices and our server helped my husband select. It was wonderful. We look forward to making the long drive back to Pasadena and dine there again!
Recommended by a friend; and so glad! Food was top-notch. Service wonderful (thank you Sophia). One of favorite wines on the list and not too terribly marked up. Parking was refreshingly easy (used to Pasadena parking). All in all, a very nice dining experience.
Gale's is obviously a local favorite. The restaurant vibe is decidedly energetic, even on a week night. The menu is varied and the portions generous. However, we were disappointed as three out of four diners found the food too salty, especially the risotto w/ short ribs and meatballs. These days people are cutting back on salt and it can be easily added. The salad of arugula and roasted beets was big enough to share and could be an entree. The arrabiata pasta was too spicy even for those of us who can tolerate spice.
This is our second visit and I doubt we will return, mostly because of the noise making carrying on a conversation nearly impossible.
As usual, the wine by the glass was excellent - allowed to taste beforehand - and the food was superb. It is my personal number one go-to restaurant. There are other great Italian restaurants in Pasadena, but this is the only one I would call sublime. Pesto raviolis (I think-one of my fellow diners wouldn't share), risotto with a short-rib, and chicken piccata were winners all the way around. For wines we quaffed a Montepulciano, a Super Tuscan, and a Tuscan Cab/merlot blend - all delightful but the favorite of all was the Fosso Corno Montepulciano. No desserts this time as we had a birthday pie waiting at home, so I'll just say this - sometimes we go for a glass of wine and dessert in the bar... and thats it! I could go on, but why read about food when you can go try it... now... get and up go...
Wonderful birthday lunch at Gale’s! Never disappoints. A wonderful chopped salad with grilled salmon. One of my friends had the white Negroni which was fabulous. Apple tart with vanilla gelato and caramel drizzles for dessert was perfect, also a creme brûlée which was fine but not one of the best ever, lacking in flavor and not creamy. But all in all, our group of four was very happy.
We tried Gales for an early dinner and were pleased with our dining experience. We were doing a pre-bring my Grandson here for dinner excursion. He knows what he likes and we believe that he would have a good experience here. The service was attentive, but not hovering. The staff were busy and energetic in their servicing of their customers. It is not a large venue so was noisier than I liked but that can be expected from smaller dining areas. Because we were early is was not to loud but when full, table to end of table conversation could be a challenge. Definitely will return.
My husband and I went to Gale's for our anniversary and enjoyed a wonderful evening. Great food - my husband had the swordfish special which was heavenly and I had the chicken piccata w/capers, mash potatoes and pasta. Both the food and service was stellar!! Raul, our server was so helpful with the bar and food recommendations and he did not disappoint! We will definitely be back to try the other dishes - maybe we'll bring a few friends so we can taste samples from their dishes! :)
A fine dining restaurant that caters to your every need. The red snapper we ordered was moist and succulent, I sent my compliments to the chef. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and competent without hovering over us. Can't wait to get back for another great experience.
I have been going to Gale''s for years but the last couple visits have been disappointing. Most recently, I have had the worst server. She was inattentive and didn't check up on us until after we got someone else to help us. We spent most of out time waiting. Waiting to get water. Waiting to get our server to come to us. Waiting for our appetizer, meal and dessert. The only think we didn't have to wait for was the bill! All tables get complimentary biscotti after their meal but we didn't which made me sad. The food was okay but I will have to say the the only stand out item Gale has is the coconut cream cake.
We love this place. It was our anniversary, so we wanted to treat ourselves, even though this place is modesty priced every day. Everything from the wine to the appetizers, to the entrees and dessert was outstanding. You have to have the coconut cake. It's like no other.
Gales has upped its game recently and the results are demonstrated by how busy this restaurant has become in the past year. Not that this is a problem, because Open Table makes it easy to get a table. The food quality is excellent and the supplemental daily menu keeps the choices interesting and fresh. The service is excellent - attentive without being intrusive. Gale's is a very good Italian restaurant and should be on your list of frequently visited.
