Gale’s is always and excellent choice for fine dining. They always have new specials and the food is always excellent
We enjoyed a special Valentine lunch menu. The lemon chicken ravioli was delicious paired with hibiscus tea Arnold Palmer. Both the Minestrone and Potato Leek soup were yummy. We loved the fresh side salad with shaved Parmesan cheese and delicate vinaigrette dressing. For dessert we tried the fresh berry crumble and flourless chocolate cake. Gales did not disappoint with the fine service 🌹
I had asked for seating upstairs but was seated downstairs with no explanation. Downstairs always seems to be noisier because of the proximity to the kitchen.
It is a great place for lunch. Food is authentic Italian with some creative modifications. Price is reasonable. It is a bit noisy, but still a great placer for lunch.
Gales is an interesting eatery. One can only imagine what it was before it was a restaurant, but the interior clearly looks as though it must have been a deli with the kitchen in the front, a back door that is a front door and a front door that looks like it was for fast pick-up. Having the kitchen in the front and the tables so close together that walking through is almost unnavigable, gives one a sense of clutter and noise. Enough of the physical ambiance.
The food is typically italian, heavy on the marinara and parmesan. We both ordered pasta as that is what should be the flagship of Italian cuisine. We were both disappointed. My lasagna was baked to a char and only warm in the middle, proving once again that restaurants with brick ovens should use them only for pizza, not for more delicate noodle dishes. To make things worse the marinara covering the lasagna was runny, not thick and zesty as it should be. We also sampled the portobello ravioli only to find that the sauce was also thin and runny, not creamy as noted on the menu. The wine list is thorough and good and the cocktails are very fine, although the bar is small and one may have to wait a while to be served. Gale's Bourbon Milano is a good entry into the competition currently running through Pasadena restaurants as they vie for which one can serve the best in the Manhattan / Old Fashion category.
All in all it was not a bad experience, but it was also not one that would make us rush back for another dinner.
So pleased with how attentive the staff was! The food was superb!
Whether on a date, a family dinner or dinner with friends, you can't go wrong here. If you are without children I would ask to be seated in the back rooms... Less noise.
For the price, service and quality of food, it's a win win restaurant!!!
Love Gales. The food, service and general kindness of management keeps us coming back.
It took more than half an hour before they took our order and an hour and a quarter before our food arrived. Food was fine, but overpriced for what it was.
Over 15 minutes past reservation to be seated in a tiny waiting area. Service was very slow but friendly. Food was mediocre. Shrimp dish undercooked. Chicken parm was cold. ... Gales is feeling a bit dated . Try Union for quality Italian.
Great service & food. Dimmer lighting & candles on the tables would improve the ambiance. Will definitely return!
Gales's is my go to restaurant for great service and great food. Some restaurants have that spotty service depending on who you get as a waiter/waitress Have not had this problem at Gale's .. Staff works as a team and service has always been great. Sometimes it is a little noisy but everybody seems to just be having a good time and its not an obnoxious level.. just what you can consider as lively.
Consistently great food and service
Outstanding, as always. Never miss a chance to dine at Gale's.
I recommend Gale's for anyone who wants great food and friendly service but is willing to wait 30 minutes even when they have made a reservation. The restaurant consistently seems to overbook or underestimates the length of time that customers keep a table. So go for the delicious food and warm staff but plan to be there for the evening.
I always enjoying dining at Gale's for lunch or dinner. The food is consistently good and you can count on good service.
This is the best fresh pasta in Pasadena. Nice cozy elegant atmosphere too.
This restaurant is a gem. The only downfall is the parking. The food was excellent along with the service. Our meals arrived at our table hot, which was a pleasant surprise and something I haven’t experienced in quite a while at a restaurant. The food is excellent quality, fresh and very generous. Will definitely return.
Fabulous as always! Josh does know how to take care of customers!
Food is consistently delicious, and portions are generous. Service is always friendly. You always feel good when you dine here.
We love Gale’s and have been there many times. Unfortunately, the brisket was not up to Gale’s typical standards this last time. I wouldn’t order it again.
Always good. Pasta is cooked perfectly
We were seated in back portion
We've been to Gale's many times. It is probably our favorite Italian restaurant in our local area. The food is excellent, very fresh, and they offer a good variety. Prices are quite reasonable. We usually bring our own wine since the corkage fee is $15, but the menu list prices seem reasonable. We recommend reservations for weekend dining as they can be quite busy. The front room is a little bit noisy since the kitchen is located there, but the back room is more quiet. We do enjoy an open kitchen area. Many of the staff have been there for years, so they must treat their employees quite well. Parking is adjacent which is an additional plus. All in all, it's a great local restaurant.
A cozy and private place to meet a friend and spend a few hours to enjoy a glass of wine and have a tasty lunch. Thank you!
We come for the lively "neighborhood" vibe and friendly service. The food is good. Hard to compare this Italian with our other local faves, Il Fornaio or Celestino. We rotate. Prefer vibe at Gales.
Made a reservation and upon arriving at the very busy restaurant, we were told that our table was ready, "just give us a minute". 45 minutes later we were finally seated, no apologies, no glass of wine, nothing. The food here is excellent, the waiters are superb, but management needs to get their act together on managing rush periods and setting expectations for wait times. One of our favorite restaurants but it will be a while before we go through that again.
They overbooked so even with a reservation we ended up waiting 30-45 mins for a table. Once we were seated it took a while for a waiter to come over.
Food is great, service superb. One of my favorite places for lunch
My first visit, and based on a recommendation. The food and service were good. Nothing exceptional.
Regular long standing neighborhood social gathering place to eat. Always crowded after 6 pm. Reservation a must. Friendly atmosphere and good food.
Outstanding food. A little loud. Seats g can be little tight. But vet very good food and service
Very good food, all tables filled...so, a little bit noisy but not overly so.
As usual, Gale's does not disappoint. The food is superb, the service is wonderful, and though it is not cheap, you absolutely get delicious, and plenty of food. The art work surrounding the tables is lovely, and adds to the feeling of being welcome in this local gem.
Food always perfect. Josh is amazing! Waitstaff always helpful and courteous.
I would have honestly given this restaurant a higher rating if it weren't for them overcharging me for the 2 (thin) slices of melon I requested for my toddlers. I didn't even mind that their oven wasn't working, so you couldn't order pizza (even though it is an Italian restaurant). Basically overall the food was good, atmosphere was nice, staff were friendly and quick, kid friendly which is important because we had 21 month old twins with us. Their kids menu was great (apart from not being able to order pizza) we ordered the Baked Penne dish for our kids. So my issue is with the "open food" item I was charged for. I asked the server if they had any fruit available to give my twins and she said no but I noticed on their specials menu of the day they offered "Prosciutto with Melon". Which is just Prosciutto atop of freshly sliced cantaloupe. So I asked her, if I could just get maybe 2 slices of melon. She said she would have to ask her manager if it's possible and how much to charge and I said sure, no problem. Then she came back with 2 (very thin) slices of melon. I didn't ask her how much she was charging because I really didn't think it would be that much, the two pieces were as small as something you would use to garnish a dish. For price reference, the kids Penne was $8 and it was a decent portion. So I would assume the two slices would be under $5? Nope, it was $8. I wouldn't have given more than 20% for a tip if I realized this sooner. Sad part is, I would probably go again to this restaurant because my kids enjoyed the food and actually ate all of the overpriced melon, so I guess it was worth the $8...
Greeeeeeeettttttttt foods and services
Great people and great food. Loved this place will be back
Going to Gale’s with my daughters for Christmas Eve dinner is a tradition for us. Since Gale’s was closed on Monday, 12/24, we rescheduled. As always, the meal was superb. We dined on salads, crab cakes, branzino (a favorite), seafood risotto, and pork ravioli followed up with desserts. Our server was great and service was prompt. We had an enjoyable evening and another memorable experience. Thank you.
My wife and l love Gale's. We starting eating here in the early 2000's when they opened. Gale's wine selection is fantastic and the choice of courses is very pleasing. Consider Gale's for a date night or just no occasion when you want fantastic food. The atmosphere is great. I recommend sitting in the back room if there is availability.
We had an early reservation 4:30 pm on New Years Eve. Being from out of state we were taking a chance on having dinner at an unknown place but we were not disappointed! The waitstaff was very pleasant as well as very professional. The food was presented in a timely fashion - plentiful and decicious.! My shrimp scampi had 6 large shrimp and the pumpkin bread pudding was absolutely yummy!
