Our meal was delicious and our waitperson, Sophia, knowledgeable in recommendations and had a great personality. We loved Gale’s and Sophia.
Love love love this consistently great Italian restaurant. Service is attentive but not overbearing. It feels intimate but isn't too small. Really--can't think of a negative. The menu is inventive too! Love Gale's!!!
Food is tasty well prepared and plated, one of our favorite places. It was jammed on a Saturday evening, almost uncomfortable. Alfonso was our server, pleasant, emanates a positive vibe and obviously likes his job.
At our tiny table next to a window in the back dining room, as we ate I had to look at a filthy window ledge that had not been cleaned of table crumbs for quite a while.
The entree server (not Alfonso) limped out with a plate in each hand and just stood there waiting for us to clear room for his plates, the table was filled with appetizer and salad plates. He delivered entrees to tables nearby using the same method of waiting for the customers to clear space at their tables for him.
Our "expert mixologist" made a Cosmopolitan that arrived with white foam on top that separated into unappetizing clumps as I sipped it, I was told that, "it must be the fresh lime" ???
We asked Alfonso for a cheese sprinkle for the Tortelloni, it never arrived.
Left a $20.00 tip, would have been $25.00 if not for the above.
Still a good place for a nice meal, but it's the details that make a place great.
This is our go-to place for lunch and dinner. Food is great, ambiance great and the service is really good.
Had dinner with family here last Sunday night. Got really busy and it was pretty noisy in the main part of the restaurant. Everyone like their food. Roasted Vegetable Pizza always is good and the crab and shrimp ravioli I had was also tasty. Pretty busy night and the wait staff was very quick to remove plates in a not so subtle hint that hey wanted the table. Overall it was a nice meal but, if you come with big party, it would hard to hear each other....
Not enough air conditioning during hot summer day.
Our pork chop meal was wonderful. I am from northern CA and our heat wave also arrived in SoCal. I think the ac couldn’t keep up with the heat. A slight disappointment was the white wine wasn’t chilled. Especially with the heat factor a nice chill would have been more pleasurable. Wait staff was wonderful. Would definitely return if in the area.
Chicken Paillard disappointing. Otherwise would have ordered salad and then would give 5 stars on food.
Food good...price expensive...198.00 for 4 people...one person drank water
Wonderful, wonderful food!
Fantastic menu with so much to choose from- you want to eat it all. Excellent wine list as well. Great and attentive service. Great location in the downtown area.
There are many choices in the menu. The food are delicious and the service is very good. Parking is convenient.
Our family had a good time and enjoyed most of their dinner order. We loved the mussels and sauce perfect for dipping with crusty bread. Waiters were attentive and helpful. I got a gigantic slice of coconut cake, which we loved.
Best Italian in Pasadena. We are vegetarians and they are very accommodating. Marinara sauce is great, pasta is always aldente and perfect.
Always wonderful art on the walls; friendly and helpful greeters; happy atmosphere; first-rate food...
The food was excellent, with generous portion sizes.
If you want incredible Italian food, awesome ambiance, and excellent service, DO NOT PASS UP on this place! I LOVED IT! They even gave special treatment for my mom’s birthday - TIRIMASU!!!! Yum!!!!!!!
We were celebrating two of the ladies' birthdays. Our waitress was so adorable and attentive. She truly made it special. The food was delicious and she even brought a large piece of their coconut cake on the house. It was fabulous. Very wonderful time was had by all.
Three of us enjoyed our meals. One had to return her steak because it was overdone. When the 2nd came back it was undercooked. Very disappointed. The waiter was also unwelcoming. The other waitstaff was excellent.
Food was Xlnt! Great Wine list at great prices! Service was Xlnt also! A great Ovrall experience! Good for any occasion!
Good service, food ambiance
Just the best. Food was great, service, divine. One of my favorite places for lunch or dinner
My mother and I drove around Pasadena looking for something different for dinner. We went to another restaurant but the wait was too long, so we looked on our iPhone’s for restaurants in the area and saw their listing. We reserved a table online which I highly recommend, and we arrived 15 minuets early but since it was not busy we were seated right away. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very clean and cozy. The food...oh the food was beyond delicious and the portions were perfect. It was a little pricey, but hey you get what you pay for 😀. We can’t wait for our next visit. Julie B. Ontario, CA
Very nice place. Loved the vibe. The food that my date and I had was just not that good. I'm not saying it was horrible or anything like that because it wasn't. The gnocchi did not taste well. I have had gnocchi at many places and I was quite disappointed with the gnocchi here. I had the Chicken Milenese with Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli. That dish was good, but nothing spectacular. We will try again though to see if we have a different experience.
Service is always great but personally, I ask for Raul.
Gem in Beautiful Pasadena. Great food!! Love the San Francisco vibe!
The food was great, expect we had to keep on asking our server for things. For example, straws, for cheese, we had to call him over to order our appetizers. He was very polite but not very attentive.
Our server was great - she greeted us with a big smile and kept up her energy the whole meal.
Excellent restaurant, one of our faves.
We have been to Gale's many times and always enjoyed it! Gale's is the one of our favorite restaurants to eat in Pasadena. Excellent food and great service! The Branzino, Steamed Artichoke, Bruschetta, Chicken Piccata, Clams Linguini and Spinach Lasagna.....are our favorite dishes.
Highly recommend it! We will be going back again and again!
We came here Tuesday night after not feeling like cooking. Gales has always been one of our favorite places to eat in Pasadena. We started with a beet salad that was delicious. My wife had the stuffed tortellini special that was very good. I decided to try something different so I had the Chicken Milanese. The chicken was crispy but, a bit overdone and was dry and even hard to cut. It was still tasty but, hard to eat. The mash potatoes that came with it were very smooth and creamy.
Our server was great and checked on us often. Despite the dry milanese, it was still a pleasant dinner after work.
A little bummed with our last experience. We've been to Gale's multiple times and have always enjoyed it, but we went a week ago for my father's 65th birthday, and service really brought down the experience. The server had a large party finishing up their meal, and we ended up waiting 15-20 minutes (I arrived at 730 on the dot, and checked my phone at 747 because I was annoyed) just to get the server to us. The busser/back waiter brought us water and bread, but we wanted to order.
The server finally came over, didn't acknowledge that a new arrival (me, though at 20 minutes I wasn't new, just new to him) was there, didn't offer a different beverage other than water, and just asked if we were ready.
The food came quickly, we saw him once to check back on us, and then once to offer dessert. The back waiter was more helpful, but neither were exactly warm or accommodating. To his credit, we started forcing him to interact with us by joking with him, and he did soften up towards the end. They also gave us my dad's sorbet for free for his birthday which was nice.
The food was good as usual, but I thought the chicken on my parm was a little rubbery, only ate half. The seasonal beet salad was great with tangy goat cheese, and my sister loved her seafood ravioli. We had an appetizer, cup of soup, 4 entrees and ice cream for dessert. Total was about $150 including 20% tip (I'm in the restaurant industry - even with less-than-amazing service I refuse to under tip).
It was a rougher visit than we're used to, but we'll still be back since this was the first time we had sub-par service here.
The Branzino was the best! Superb!!! The wait staff was efficient and friendly. The menu was diverse, the pasta was house made, and the portions were hearty. Everything about this restaurant was a pleasure.
The service and food is consistently excellent! I’ve never been disappointed, whether a 1x1 lunch or group special occasion.
Great service from the moment we walked in. Greeted by friendly host. Our waiter Raul was excellent. Our food tasted great, and plenty of good drinks to choose from. We will definitely come back.
I have never been disappointed by the food, wine or service at Gales. It is slways a pleasure to eat there.
Love Gale's! We enjoyed. Little birthday celebration and we're treated to a free desert!
Busy place, late on reservation time due to having a large party that was taking their sweet time. Wait staff was great and food was awesome!
we had to wait for a table due to a couple of large parties that ran over their allotted time but the wait was worth it. the food and service was excellent. We will be back again to try another dish from the menu.
We always have our birthday dinners at Gale's - it's become a tradition. For the first time we talked about taking our celebration elsewhere. We love Gale's food, but the noise level makes it VERY difficult to enjoy friendly conversation. It was so noisy. We had asked for the back room which was occupied by a large party so we had to sit out front. It is bordering unpleasant with the noise. I'm glad they are doing a good business and don't know what they can do to curtail the noise, but it's not fun!
Gales is a classic because the dishes are made up of simple ingredients. Simple food is best when the ingredients are fresh, and that is Gale's magic formula: simple, fresh, delicious. I had the fennel salad, which was crunchy, subtle, and set off perfectly by the manchego cheese. I loved every bite. I also had the softshell crab on top of Italian coleslaw as my main course. The crab was cooked just perfectly with just the perfect amount of crunch and flavor. The Italian coleslaw mixed in the perfect counter-texture. The entire meal was healthy, satisfying and thoroughly enjoyable. I love Gale's.
