Chef Gaetano Di Benedetto is a native of the lush coastal town of Bagheria, located near Palermo, Sicily. He began as a kitchen apprentice in Palermo in 1978 and is a graduate of the prominent IPAS professional culinary school in Italy. His cooking career spans three decades, maintaining the title of Executive Chef since 1989 at restaurants throughout Italy, as well as France, England and the US.

While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.

Everything was delicious and you must try this place. Make sure you make a reservation though. We went on a Saturday and it is very upbeat. I had the short rib and it was delicious. One of the best I have had. My girlfriend had the tagliatelle with lobster and it was outstanding. My husband tried the veal and said it was just okay not the best he has had. Service was great and overall a good experience.

My husband proposed to me at Gaetano's one year ago. We went back this weekend for our anniversary and just like last time, it didn't disappoint. The food is amazing. Truly. He is a genius. I always recommend this place to everyone looking for a great meal. I say he is like the Willy Wonka of Italian food. It's never quite what you expect, but exceeds every expectation you may have. The atmosphere is like you are sitting in your Italian grandmother's kitchen; very homey and cozy. The service is great as well. I would recommend the pork chop - it is out of this world. Enjoy! And thank you Gaetano for one amazing meal after another. Cheers to you!

Consistently excellent food! Wait staff always attentive and amazing. Portions are large in my experience (appetizer and small salad is usually enough for me) and not cheap...but oh, so good!

Another completely AMAZING meal thanks to Chef Gaetano and Dave Rita. Chef's Table is the only choice you should make here. Sit down and surrender to Chefs mood. Never the same thing, always surprising, transcendental food. Please support this amazing Chef. I know I'll be back

It’s with a heavy heart that I leave this review. We’ve had wonderful meals here before but this evening was less than acceptable. We were kept waiting for 15 minutes while they setup our table, bad start considering no one actually left while we were waiting. Then our waitress was much less than attentive, for example, 2 of us wanted the chefs choice menu and 1 didn’t. She left in the middle of the order to check if that was possible and didn’t come back for 15 MINUTES. We finally were told it was ok but that was a fiasco with my college friend visiting from NYC waiting forever for his entre.

The delivery of the different components of the meal was haphazard and ruined the normally wonderful cascade of flavors offered. It was rushed then delayed, not properly explained and my friend and I were both hit by errant utensils flying off the plates as they’re were taken away.

I’m disappointed and surprised at how badly the meal went. It’s pretty pricey and there are so many other amazing options in the area, we won’t be back!

This is a great, upscale Italian eatery. The food is the main attraction, although the service is excellent (Greg). The mushroom risotto with duck and blueberries is fabulous, but every thing I have had has been delicious.

Calamari aopetizer is exquisite.
Lamb and duck combo entree is very nicely cooked.
Pasta dish with wild mushrooms and wild boar is magnificent. (And really hearty !!).

Our 4th visit in the past 8 months. The last 3 times I had the shrimp and crab stuffed pork chop. Yep, odd combo but it is so good that I had it 3 times in a row! Thursday night I broke free and had the beef short rib and risotto. Another great meal.

My spouse and I both had pasta dishes. Personally my taste is smaller amounts of garlic. I love how garlic adds to the overall flarvor of a dish but when it is the main star I get a bit disappointed. I'm sure I missed some other delightful tastes because of what i consider to be excess. My two daughters would have loved my pasta..they love their garlic! I will go back and simply request a smaller presence to aby future dish and hopefully I won't offend the chef. It was an excellant meal and we will certainly return. My wifes pasta was the boar dish and it was excellant...she won!
Food was 4.5 and Overall was also 4.5 but we cant give half stars!

My wife and I have been regulars at Gaetano's for many years. We went on Saturday night with two of our children and we all had great food. The chef accommodated my wife's special request for ribs with scallops, I had tagliatelle with lobster. The children had chitarre with seafood and rigatoni trasteverina. All dishes were excellent as usual. The service was prompt and courteous. I definitely recommend.

I have visited Gaetano's three times now and have not been disappointed. This time, however, was a different story. Valentine's day dinner; $85/plate: Service was as good as past experiences, until a hair was found in my fiance's dish. Server offered to replace the dish, we declined. He left the plate of food--with the hair--on our table for us to look at while I finished my meal. (gross!) Needless to say we lost our appetite. When I asked why he left the food on our table he blamed it on the fact that they are "exponentially busier" tonight than any other night. He ended up (reluctantly) giving us half-off our bottle of wine to make up for the hair in her dish after I asked that something please be done on our bill. Again, I've been to Gaetano's multiple times and the food/service have been outstanding until this visit. Now I am debating whether or not to recommend to friends. I hope Gaetano places an emphasis on customer service to match the food quality (typically) found here.

Our waiter was wonderful and recommended a great wine to go with our Valentines Day meal. The meal was outstandinf and more than enough food for the two of us. All around a great experience. Will be back.

The reviews for this restaurant were great so we gave it a try. We would not return. I made the reservation through open table and we got the worst table. The back room. Avoid the back room. It's damp and errr just say you'll wait for a table up front. The Service was poor. Our waiter was not friendly, not observant, not helpful and slow. He realized that he was not serving well and blamed the other staff for this- which is always a bad sign in the service industry. The starters were good, we had 2 bacon dishes (server said "you sure you want all that bacon"). The wine was good. The main dishes were not as good. Gnocchi was not firm, actually mushy. The cream sauce was atypical. Shrimp meal - they left the tail shells on. Which I despise. I get it if it was a cocktail shrimp and I needed a handle for dipping, but when it is mixed into a pasta dish - ugh- why must I dig it out and take off the shell- rack it up to a lazy chef. Dessert was average at best. Flourless chocolate cake was boring, Tiramisu was not flavorful. Gelato not bad, but the cost to have 2 good bacon dishes and ice-cream-- too expensive. Took 30 min (not kidding) to get the check (server blamed IT) Lots of great places to eat around Oak Park- this is not one of them. Skip it.

The food here is absolutely incredible! I have been here four times and every time there is something new! The spin that Chef Gaetano puts on his chef's choice meals is not like anything I have had anywhere else! Mangia!!

We've been to Gaetano's several times and always really enjoyed the experience. Our most recent visit was a little disappointing though. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairing after our waiter assured us that the vegetarian in our group wouldn't miss out on any of the courses. Two of the courses he got though were just roasted vegetables which accompanied the meat and fish courses for the non-vegetarians. It's the first time I felt that I was overcharged for what I got.

ALWAYS AMAZING. From the fabulous wine (recommended by our waiter, Bubba (who was spot on!)) to the date appetizer to the entrees of pasta and the short ribs ...everything was mouth watering, spectacular. we love this place. love.

This was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed (yes, we had a reservation). Some bar seats were available. Still the service was prompt and impeccable. The carpaccio appetizer was amazing. The ravioli porchetta and the mist di pesce were both excellent.
