Gaetano's & Ristorantino Mediterraneo
While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.
Chef Gaetano is a recent recipient of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Gov. This award signifies Gaetano's as an authentic Italian restaurant, 1 of 600 in the entire world! You will only find fresh, natural and homemade dishes at Gaetano's.
My favorite place for a special occasion. The chefs taster menu was amazing!
We had the Gaetapas plus the wine pairings, a no brainer especially since they were at a reduced orice because it was a Thursday night. These were all selected, or pre-selected, by Gaetano, who stpped by to chat several times. Also, Dave waited on us. He is extremely knowledgeable about all the food and wines. We dine out a fair amount in Chicago, as well as other U. S. cities (San Francisco, St. Louis, Boston, Kansas City, Savannah, etc. ) and in Europe, especially Italy. Not only is the service impeccable, with each new dish or set of dishes arriving at our table with perfect timing, the dishes themselves are uniquely imaginative and a special treat for the palate, and the wine pairings were just right for each dish or set of dishes. A totally enjoyable and memorable dining experience, among the best in the U. S. if not the world.
We did the GaeTapas, we where very disappointed in the the first 3 plates. They did not look appetizing and where just okay. However the next 5 plates where extraordinary, The main plate was divine and the dessert where just right.
This was our first time dining here but it won't be the last. I read up on the reviews and the menu beforehand so we had a pretty good idea what to expect. What I didn't expect was just how good it was.The food was outstanding. Our server was always there when you needed something without overdoing it. I only gave it 5 stars because there is no category for 6.
Love this dude and his restaurant!
I thought Gaetano’s was an awesome restaurant. The place is quite small but very appealing. The sink in the bathroom was so creative . The food was exceptional. We will definitely return. This time I want to try the homemade pasta which was mixed at the table by the chef and owner. The service was spot on. The owner also found time to speak to us at our table. Great find!
It had been awhile since i had eaten there. The tasting meal did not disappoint at all. Food was amazing. Looking forward to going back.
Outstanding food and wine list, as always! Service is always attentive and engaging, very knowledgeable, without being intrusive. Overall, always one of the top dining experiences.
best Italian outside of Italy! ever changing menu In a great homey space!
We love experiencing Gaetano's culinary creations. He is a master chef who is always challenging himself to be creative and inventive. Dining here feels like coming home.
Dave was our server and he was outstanding. Gaetano’s menu is full of delicious options that marry ingredients together for a delightful and unique dish. I highly recommend Chef’s choice! Gaetano continues to out-do himself!
Very nice, wonderful food
Fantastic, quality food, service and ambiance.
Gaetano’s always knocks it out of the park. Inventive multi-course dinners are always amazing. Waiter Dave is the best.
The food is so good its out of this world. Service was top notch. We especially enjoyed the waiter's description of the meal items. The presentation was superb.
Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Food & service was incredible. Pasta fresh & perfectly prepared. Mussels were plump & moist. Probably the best mussels I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to return!
We (three) were there early (4:45). We were greeted warmly and seated in a front alcove. It was cute and cozy. Dave was our server and he treated us like old friends. He was very attentive, knowledgeable and gracious. He recommended wines and served sample tastes. My daughter ordered a dish not realizing it included fish. Dave recalled her mentioning she did not eat a lot of fish and returned to ask if she would like to change her order, we were impressed. Dave did all he could to ensure we had an enjoyable evening. Service was excellent, food amazing. Excited to return for the Wine Pairing experience.
As always the service was impeccable. Tried the special Island tasting menu and it was fabulous.
Consistent quality of excellent food. I've dined here many times and am always happy to bring guests.
My only comment would be it was a little warm in restaurant, particularly for my husband and sons.
This chef/owner with staff is the best in Illinois. Being Italian and growning up with fabulous restaurants around, Im asking you to trust me with this. Gaetano will do almost anything for you if you ask the quality of food and preperation is far superior - they know what they are doing.
This restaurant is 5 star, I think Ill give it 6
So happy we found this restaurant, great food and service! Definitely going back with friends and family!
New favorite Italian Restaurant. Did the taster menu and wine pairing- outstanding. Loved all the food except the mussels. Maybe it was an off day for those.
The wait staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. This is one of our favorite restaurants. We have never been disappointed. The food is put your fork down and close your eyes enjoyable. The chef owner called us afterward to admire his wood burning oven.
Went with friends and had told them that this was my favorite place. Was very disappointed. It was very warm inside. The sorbet for dessert was melting as we were eating. We ordered the dates to share and then each of us ordered a salad and entree. The dates and salads came together. The server had to crowd everything on the table. It was a Wednesday and not many people. It should have been paced better. Our entrees were ok.
Water refill never happened. We were not asked how we liked the food or it we needed anything.
The best thing that we had was the bread.
INCREDIBLE FOOD! Some of the most delicious and imaginative Italian food to be found anywhere!
Our server was terrific, the wine list is very good and well priced. Worth a drive out from downtown Chicago. Family friendly, too.
Superb and innovative Italian cuisine that can compete with the best anywhere. The staff and chef gaetano enrich the experience with grace and humor. Overall a great dinking experience
Pricey for area but the food was delicious.
Downtown Chicago caliber food and prices in Western suburbs.
Authentic Italian dishes, including homemade pasta, seafood, and a great wine list. Excellent service. Great for a date night.
Amazing food and even better service. This was our second time here and it does not disappoint.
An excellent meal with friends. Always a pleasure at Gaetano's
Each of us had a different Paste. One was more amazing than the other!! Cant wait to go back and order the parmesan wheel soaghetti. So fun to watch them prepare.
This was our second time at Gaetano’s; the first was a couple of years ago on an earlier trip to Chicago. All four of us are “foodies,” and It’s hard to describe just how good this gem of a restaurant is! The food was spectacular; our waiter was knowledgeable and entertaining without being overbearing; and the ambiance is right out of Tuscany. The pasta (gnocchi) was the best ever. The steak, veal chop, and scallops were cooked to perfection. The wine and dessert, both recommended by our waiter were perfect compliments to the meal. We’d eat here every week if we lived in Chicago. We can’t recommend it more highly!
Excellent food and service! All four of us had a great meal.
Food was a bit too salty, but I loved everything else
It's hard to find an Italian restaurant that isn't like all the rest, but this is it. Dinner with 6 friends was excellent from the bread to the appetizers - crab cake was delish - to wonderful seafood pasta to lemoncello - all so good. And our waiter Frank was great - attentive, efficient and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Food this time was just delicious! Service was good, a big party came in at the end of our dinner and was quite loud. Also a bit expensive, compared to other local restaurants.
One of the best Italian restaurants in the Chicago area. Period.
This place went above my expectation when it came to the quality and taste of the food. Our server steered us in the right direction. My husband and I shared some plates and it was the perfect amount of food to go around for the two of us. My favorite was the stuffed dates.
Great little neighborhood gem with a large selection of interesting house made pastas, very delicious salads. Our waiter was excellent, informative and provided great suggestions for what to order. My only complaint was it was a bit on the pricey side.
