Gaetano's & Ristorantino Mediterraneo
While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.
Chef Gaetano is a recent recipient of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Gov. This award signifies Gaetano's as an authentic Italian restaurant, 1 of 600 in the entire world! You will only find fresh, natural and homemade dishes at Gaetano's.
The best food I have ever had! So much flavour and creativity: pear poached in Chianti with a gorgonzola fondue (insalate); scallops dusted with cocoa powder and plated with aged balsamic vinegar (antipasti); porchetta (carne); caramelised phyllo with custard and peaches (dolce).
I have never met anyone more passionate about his job than Francesco, our Sicilian server! His wine suggestions with the food were outstanding! His personality and love to please his guests were an excellent pairing with the fine cuisine.
Many regular menu servings and daily specials. We loved the golden beet carpaccio salad and
butternut squash gnocchi with mushrooms and beef rib meat.
This is our go to spot for great Italian cuisine. Service is outstanding and friendly. Food is creative and delicious. Bravissimo!!
Food was amazing and the service even better
My soul rests, my taste buds rejoice. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent place. I will come back again and again and again.
Authentic Italian fare from a Chef with demanding taste and expert execution. Great meal!
Everything I had ad Gaetano’s was amazing. From the garbanzo bean dip served with the focaccia bread, to the poached pear salad with Gorgonzola fondue, to the lobster and shrimp tagliatelle, it was all delicious. We rounded out our meal with the poached peach and custard dessert, a delight of crispy sweet phyllo and poached peaches with a smooth vanilla custard. As Francesco said when we ordered the dessert “The cream is where the love is”.
There’s a reason we return to Gaetano’s for special occasions. Got the chef’s choice w/ the wine pairing. Greg took great care of us as usual. Definitely recommend this place for the unique atmosphere and exquisite food. Never left disappointed.
Food was delicious, service was great very enjoyable experience.
First time and definitely going back. Absolutely wonderful experience and fantastic menu and service.
We love to eat in Chicago and very rarely return to the same restaurant twice. This one though we come back over and over again. The food is amazing, the staff has been there as long as the place has been open and its unlike any Italian you can find anywhere else! No matter the occasion you won't be disappointed.
Very enjoyable experience. The service was excellent and the food and menu were creative. There were several options so it is a great place for a small group of 6 or 8 friends. The place is not large so the lower noise level allowed good conversation.
We enjoyed the 3 course tasting menu. Quality and quantity of the food was above and beyond! We highly recommend it.
This is the best restaurant in Chicago. Well just outside of Chicago. The chef pulls together flavors like no other. Well worth the short trip and accessible by Blue and Green lines, as well as Metra.
Everything was delicious, the portions were generous and the service was wonderful! The mushroom risotto was out of this world.
We had a table of 6. Every one of our dinners, as well as the 3 appetizers we ordered, was excellent. Service was great. And make sure to go on a Monday - half price on selected bottles of wine!
Another great meal. Best Italian-Mediterranean cuisine in Chicago, but don't tell anyone, or I won't be able to get reservations.....
Great food selection and awesome service.
Gaetano's never disappoints! Excellent food, service and ambience.
Food was absolutely wonderful, wine was delicious and our waiter was delightful!
Great service by Bubba!! Each dish was beautifully presented and so delicious! Love the atmosphere Definitely will go back a third time!!
We chose this restaurant as part of our milestone birthday celebration (2 were turning 50). It definitely lived up to the high marks given by so many other reviewers! Our party of 4 ordered 2 appetizers, salads, 4 different entrees & 2 desserts. Sure it was pricey, but the flavors in every single item we tasted were out of this world and not what you would find in just any Italian restaurant. The server was super attentive and even provided a couple of extras on the house to help us celebrate. We would definitely make this 45 minute drive again!
Gateano and his staff were very welcoming and kind and generous! We enjoyed every moment of our date there and the food was DELICIOUS! E' state una serata bellissima e speciale. Non vediamo l'ora di ritornare. - Mark e Ruthi (di Bologna e Chicago :)
The food, ambiance, and our waiter, Frank, were all magnificent.
Service was great and explained all food and drink. Food was fresh, cooked/made to perfection.
Simply the best food in the area, especially if you order from the specials. Sometimes Gaetano goes a bit over the top, but you need to give creative genius a bit of latitude.
Always a treat! Gaetano’s is one of my all time favorites. Servers are friendly, efficient and well informed. The food is unfailingly delicious and interesting.
Food and service were amazing as always. Our go to for special celebrations.
We love it here! There is always something interesting and new on the menu and we never cease to be amazed at the flavor combinations. Gaetano does it all amazingly well! We have some favorites on the regular menu as well!
Fantastic tasting menu - loved every bite!!
Went there for our anniversary and had the Chef’s Choice. Needless to say, it was absolutely incredible. Every course left us awestruck at the flavors and uniqueness of each dish. So much food but it’s hard to stop because every bite is better than the last.
The specials menu never disappoints. We had the tuna carpaccio and stuffed zucchini blossoms as starters and the roasted beet salad for the table to share. Entrees were all on point as was the service. Water glasses were always filled and service was attentive. Bread pudding and the almond semifreddo along with a few spoons of panna cotta were a nice finish to a great meal. Thanks Gaetano!
We ordered a carpaccio appetizer and two inventive pasta dishes(strozzapreti in a butter/cheese sauce with truffle slices and pappardelle in a boar meat ragú). Both outstanding. This was our third visit and we will go again. Service also was quite good, attentive but not obtrusive. The owner/head chef came over to say hello.
Amazing food! I highly recommend this place! It’s a hidden gem!
The best restaurant in the west burbs.
My girlfriend and I had dinner to celebrate her college graduation. The ambience was nice, the food was fantastic, and the chef/owner came over and spoke with us briefly. Overall a great special occasion restaurant!
Walked in and the waiter asked if I had a reservation which I did but the place was dead!! We didn’t receive menus for 20 minutes and had to ask for them. We usually have a great time there... Hopefully when we go back it will be different.
The best service!
Outstanding... I can't say enough about the food and service. A definite treat! My spouse and I went on a Thursday night, where the "Gaetapas" tasting menu is reduced from $60 to $50... we actually wound up taking some home for the following day. You NEED to go!
Gaetano's is a taste of Sicily. The restaurant is family run with a strong family presence which makes for a special dining experience with a personal touch. The staff is well trained. I appreciate the homemade pastas and choice of antipasti, which means I usually don't make it to the secondi. Chianti choices are lovely on the wine list. This is a comfortable restaurant to enjoy a meal and talk to your dining companions - no having to shout through your meal.
