Whenever I get to the DC area I like to visit Gadsby’s Tavern for taste of Colonial Virginia. This visit didn’t disappoint. Gadsby’s is a must for history buffs.

Benningsdorf here several times and this visit was the worst one so far. Service was non existent for about the first 15 minutes, but did get a little better once the waiter finally showed up. I’ll chalk this visit up to a one off, since my past visits I’ve had good service. The food as always was really really good and plenty of it.

Gadsby's was a wonderful place to have a get together with friends. It is historic, very interesting, and an unusual place. The food was wonderful (with some interesting period food to choose as well), a good selection of wine, and very reasonable. I will definitely return. Make sure to make reservations as it was packed!

We took an out of town couple there, and we all had a wonderful time and meal. We all ordered different dishes, and they were all excellent. And the hot cider and rum drink was fantastic.

Went with a group of 6. Service was phenomenal - very attentive waiter. Lots of recommendations. Had a fantastic time. The restaurant is old and beautiful - would have loved to hear more on the history of the place. Great pub food!

Food and ambiance always wonderful. Our prime rib was exceptional and just the way we like it. We had a small surprise birthday lava cake that made the evening more special.

This Resturant is full of character like the Resturants in Colonial Williamsburg. Good value for the money spent. Food is excellent. Recommend for special time with your spouse.

Went to Gadsby's with my extended family for a dinner during the Thanksgiving weekend. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. They were able to find us a table where all 8 of us could sit together. Great ambiance. The waitress was able to get the kitchen to make a pasta dish that wasn't on the menu for my niece. Good service. The salmon dish wasn't too tasty but the rest of the food was fine. I loved the history of the place!

After eating at other historical taverns like fraunces in NY i was disappointed in the condition of the restaurant. I felt like they are using the excuse of it being old ,to let things go. Going down to the restrooms was like going in the back of a dumpy restaurant. Food was pretty good, but overpriced. Overall disappointed and would not tell others its worth it. Hopefully they do some restoration

Awesome place and very good food. There was a Birthday party that came in while we were there and they were a bit loud. Service was a slower than expected and the place was not overly full. I would certainly recommend the experience. Great history!

Great dinner. Everything was first rate. I have only one question: why, when I ordered half a Duck was I given 2 bottom halves? Technically that’s a half, but I was rightfully expecting a breast as one of my halves. I didn’t want to cause a fuss because it was my friend’s birthday dinner, but come on! ☹️

This was my one must-dine on my recent trip to Alexandria/Washington, DC. It was superb. Our experience was wonderful. The waitress helped guide our selections, and provided a taste of the renowned peanut soup. For a history nerd, this was a memorable experience that satisfied our appetites and our hunger for America's past.

The tavern offers a fairly good glimpse of what public meeting places/taverns were like in colonial times as far as building architecture is concerned. Gadsby's Tavern has plugged into that a good menu and wine list to enjoy contemporary dining there. In a time that most restaurants are extremely noisy, it was delightful to enjoy conversation without yelling at each other.

Very quaint and interesting atmosphere; historical place down to period dressed waitresses and one individual speaking old English socializing with the guests. Tables and chairs don't seem to have been touched for over 100 years, so very genuine, good if you don't mind hard chairs and unpainted tables.
I wish the actual tavern were open a bit later in the day so the dinner and visit could be combined.
Very popular. Good food reasonably priced.
Street parking if lucky otherwise parking lot nearby

Food was ok not spectacular. Nice ambiance. Waitress was unfriendly, clumsy (clanking plates on glasses, reaching across you, spilled water on a lady at another table) She was also rude about the old furniture and old plates. As if they were from the 1800's because she she kept telling us to be careful. Obnoxious. I wouldn't go back or recommend it. They might get the same waitress and she would ruin the experience for them too.

We had lunch with grand kids and every body was happy. The Peanut Soop (heritage spelling) was a delicious new discovery as well as the rotkraut on the Reuben.
The waitress was very sweet and patient with the children.
It's an understatement to say the place is unique. It's history and museum was reason enough to visit then add in great food, kid friendly and friendly staff. We will be back and we recommend this place.

The ambiance is nice (historical) and service was strong. But the food really needs improvement across the board. My wife's seafood was overcooked and dry, my french onion soup was watery and bland. My entree was acceptable but rather boring. Given the options available in Alexandria, I don't see myself going back to Gadsby's -- too bad, because the interior space is nice and cozy.

We went to Gadsby's because of it's rich history and reputation for fine food. The history didn't disappoint as you felt like you were obviously in an old 18th century tavern. Knowing Washington, Adams, Jefferson, etc., had dined there was special to an American history lover like myself. The food was also creative and very good indeed. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was the ultimate gourmet and the best I'd ever tasted but it was very good all around. Forgive the 1 to 10 scale but ambiance was 10. food an 8, service a 9. All solid. I recommend it and would return.

It feels like you've walked back to colonial times with some of the menu offerings and look of the staff. Wait staff are in old time costumes, and are more than willing to smile while you take a pic. The menu has some recipes from the colonial times like Peanut Soup. Meals were hearty and delicious! Would definitely go back again!

We arrived, were seated and it took at least 5 min for a server to come by and greet us. There were two servers and only four other tables that were occupied. She brought water and asked if we had questions on the menu. We said no and she walked away. It took well over10-15 minutes for her to return to take our order. We decided to walk out and shared with her as she was coming back to our table. She said she was in the back rolling the silver. Very poor time management.

I was entertaining guests from out of town and was embarrassed by the poor service. We will not return

Gadsby's in Old Town Alexandria is a place frequented by George Washington and other Founders of the Republic. It's like stepping back in time to the 18th century to enjoy meals common during that era. The staff are dressed in era costume to add to the ambiance. The food is good, but I found the shrimp a bit over done and tough.
