Food and atmosphere were perfect. Can’t wait to bring more people back here!
What a cool place, and with such an interesting history. Very good food, to boot. The sautéed spinach was great, as was GW’s Favorite.
The food was delicious and the service was perfect.
We even were lucky since there was entertainment provided by the restaurant! We will go back to try different dishes!
A true step back in time!
Valentine’s Day dinner.
Great service and ambience, but was not impressed by the dry, underseasoned main course
Great place and service but way to expensive on Valentine’s Day. Didn’t know it was a special meal that day.
val-tine day 2020. great time. toured Mt Vernon Washington’s home then came to Gadsby’s Tied together perfect!
Very quaint, great food and very entertaining. We look forward to coming back to this place!
Enjoyed the ambiance and wandering period characters. Food was pretty good - but wouldn't classify it as great. Service exceptional
One of the best dining experiences in the DC area. Slip away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a quiet candlelit meal back in time. It was a romantic evening on a cold night and my boyfriend and I immediately felt relieved when we walked in. It was cozy, quiet and the service was top notch. We sipped hot ciders, ate the naked brie (highly suggest) and had the beef bourgeois with desserts at the end. Such a special night - next time we want to request a window seat. :)
The onion soup was really delicious! However the main meal was so-so. I had the stew, which was in a very tasty gravy but had very little meat and the gravy needed to be a bit thicker. Otherwise, everything was great and the service was excellent!!
Amazing place in a warm ambiance. We had the chance to find also George Washington there while dining :-). The food is typical and excellent, the service wonderful.
I loved the character and ambience of the restaurant. We visited for lunch. The food was delicious, but the service was slow. It could have been because they were short staffed.
We loved the idea of this restaurant, but it needs a good cleaning. The dining room was not clean, and the restrooms were nasty, sadly.
The history of this place is quite unique. The fare was really yummy, and the ambience made for a great evening. Presidents Washington and Jefferson actually ate here...very cool!
The food was mediocre. The service was mediocre. The building is lovely, but not an experience I need to repeat.
This was my 3rd visit to Gadsby's, and I was once again not disappointed. This was actually the highlight of my trip, and something I had been looking forward to for a very long time. I love the history of the place and I am able to step back in time because of how well they keep things looking like they were a couple of hundred years ago. Even the staff dress for the time period. The ambience is relaxing and the food is beyond amazing. I will be back again!
Our time there was very enjoyable. The only complaint is that there was only one poor man doing everything - seating, taking the orders, serving, clearing, etc. He did a great job, but he should have had help.
Everything was wonderful! The food was delicious. Our party enjoyed the 1700's atmosphere.
The ambience in a historical building is lovely. Service was good. It was a bit loud, we thought some period music would have helped and could also contribute to the ambience. The duck was over cooked. Not many options for vegetarians.
I have always wanted to eat here for the historical ambiance, and didn't have very high expections, but the level of sevice and quality of food being served is otherwise unheard of in Old Town. The servers didn't even attempt smiles, and the food was 235 years past it's due date, the peanut soup was essentially melted peanut butter. The main clientele seems to be school buses of children. For a $15 restaurant week special, I got exactly what paid for, but I do think your money will be better spent on a tour of Gadsby Tavern, then eating basically anywhere else.
Lovely Restaurant Week menu!
We very much enjoyed the Alexandria Restaurant Week menu food as well as the warm apple cider.
I went to Gadsby's Tavern during restaurant week so I received an appetizer, meal, and dessert for $35.00. The ambiance here was amazing. it's a unique place for a meal and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the area or local and just wanting a nice meal. I thought the meal was definitely worth the price that I paid, but I probably wouldn't pay more for it. The meal was good, but vegetables seemed to have been steamed from a bag and I think a little more effort was warranted for the regular price point.
I am a tourist and dining here was a very interesting experience. The staff were very friendly. I recommend dinner. Signature beer was so good.😘🍺👌👍
Would recommend this restaurant
The restaurant week menu is not a good value. Items listed were different from what was served. French toast with Brie and peaches came out with Brie and bananas. This was disgusting. The texture, flavor, and appearance is all wrong.
Another great brunch.
The restaurant has an interesting vibe, its neat to sit in a colonial style tavern. Very cold and drafty, and dark inside, made it difficult to read the menu. The service was a bit slow, I was out of water for most of the meal and they forgot half the table's dessert. The salmon was really good, well cooked moist nice smokiness to it and they went light in balsamic, did not overpower the meal. Presentation was a bit bland, slab of fish some spinach and plain rice. Bread was sweet and fluffy, was expecting a heartier bread maybe with more whole grains to make it feel more colonial, citrus butter lacked any citrus flavor. Distinct lack of nutmeg. And appetizers are a bit weak. The brie en croute is basically a small chunk of brie in some puff pastry with a drizzle of raspberry sauce. Would have liked some nuts or cherries/cranberries in it to make it feel more complete. Hot rum cider was very heavy in rum, for me was too much. 200 dollars for the meal was a bit steep. Especially since the vegetable napoleons had undercooked eggplant. Bread pudding was alright. The whole meal needed more nutmeg.
The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. We will definitely be going back.
Mediocre. The ambiance is almost nonexistent. Food was fine but not memorable. No fires in the fireplaces on a cold winter night.
Gadsby's Tavern was a great place to eat! I loved the charming atmosphere and the food and drinks were awesome! It is really cool to eat in a part of history!
We went for lunch during the week and it was not busy. The hot apple cider was especially good with and without rum. It is always an enjoyable place to eat when visiting Old Town Alexandria.
We have gone to Gadsby’s Tavern for years. The last three times (2 for dinner, and 1 for lunch) we have been there we have been disappointed with the food and drinks. The quality and just the whole feel has gone downhill in my opinion. I’m not sure why. Sadly, I think we will take them off our list of frequent nights out.
I took two friends who had never been there. We all had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. It really takes one’s breath away to consider all of the history in Gadsby’s. I highly recommend.
Great little historic restaurant, with delicious food. My son and I really enjoyed it, and we found the museum attached also very fascinating.
This is a wonderful restaurant, a very special place for those looking for an authentic experience in historic Alexandria. You will not be disappointed! The food is excellent, and you will definitely get the feeling that you are stepping back in time the minute you open the large front door of this tavern. If you are lucky, you will have the extra special experience of meeting “Mr. Hall,” a gentleman from the 1820’s who frequently visits the tavern at night and charms you with his conversation and beautiful ballads on his exquisite string instrument.
It has a very romantic and historical presents. The food was exceptional the service was very attentive. I would recommend this restaurant for history, romance and the wonderful food.
Wait staff forgot to order our food so the wait for food was twice as long. No compensation for error was offered.
It was my husband‘s birthday. The restaurant was fairly empty. I read that it was a great place to celebrate birthdays, but it did not feel like festive atmosphere. The food was good but a bit pricey. Our server was nice.
