This is a wonderful restaurant, a very special place for those looking for an authentic experience in historic Alexandria. You will not be disappointed! The food is excellent, and you will definitely get the feeling that you are stepping back in time the minute you open the large front door of this tavern. If you are lucky, you will have the extra special experience of meeting “Mr. Hall,” a gentleman from the 1820’s who frequently visits the tavern at night and charms you with his conversation and beautiful ballads on his exquisite string instrument.
It has a very romantic and historical presents. The food was exceptional the service was very attentive. I would recommend this restaurant for history, romance and the wonderful food.
Wait staff forgot to order our food so the wait for food was twice as long. No compensation for error was offered.
It was my husband‘s birthday. The restaurant was fairly empty. I read that it was a great place to celebrate birthdays, but it did not feel like festive atmosphere. The food was good but a bit pricey. Our server was nice.
This place was amazing. I am pretty sure it is haunted but still had a great experience
Very good food presented in a comfortable environment where conversation was possible
Such a cool experience and feel! The food is also wonderful!
El sitio espectacular. Ambientado en otra época tanto por los enseres como vestuario. Muy auténtico. La comida casera muy buena y el servicio muy majo. Es sin duda un lugar imprescindible al que ir si estás por la zona. Volveremos encantadas.
Good but the prime rib was a bit tasteless. I’ve had the prime rib before and it had been very good. However this time was a bit on the bland side. Otherwise the experience was enjoyable.
Meeting friends for Xmas
We had a great meal and thoroughly enjoyed our entire evening at Gadsby's. We love downtown Alexandria and our drinks, meal and service was outstanding. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment which was a very nice touch! Highly recommend for a fun evening out!
Gadsbys food is incredibly good which was unexpected the first time we went. The ambiance and history of this landmark make it a must do ok Alexandria. Even for those of us who live here!
Best fish and chips (they called it Crispy Cod) I've had in a long time. And everything else was delicious too. Prices were very reasonable.
Had a fantastic meal with a romantic and authentic atmosphere.
Graduation. Very very nice. Thank you.
My expectations were blown away with the each of the meals at our table. I was dining with a group of four and we started off with the wedge salad, and the fried oysters. Both of which were phenomenal.
Then we ordered crabcakes, the seafood Newfoundlander, and prime rib. And again all of them were amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant if you’re down in old town
Everything was fantastic - food, service, ambiance. The only negative was it was a bit crowded. 1-2 too many tables, so chairs bumped up against each other. But once seated, it wasn’t too bad. Worth it though for the food, service, and wine.
Gadsby's Tavern was so great! I loved the atmosphere and colonial feel. I will definitely be back!
Always a treat to come for prime rib and the corn soufflé. Love the ambiance.
Our entire experience was excellent. The history, excellent food and excellent service exceeded our expectations. We will return!
History accompanied by good food and reasonable prices. The service was good and we even found parking in Old Town. If you enjoy history you have to give Gadsby's a try.
wonderful experience - excellent food - great service - we will be back.
Ambience and food were very good but service was not great.
Waiter forgot one of the soups when he brought out the other soups and salads and said he’d bring out the other one in a second...took about 10 minutes and us having to flag him down to bring it out and ended up coming out just about 2 minutes before the entrees.
After dropping off the entrees, the waiter didn’t come back to our table until he dropped off the check.
There were maybe only 3 other parties seated in the main dining area so not sure why the lack of service on an “quiet night” as he put it.
I loved the historic atmosphere. I had the peanut soup as a starter and I am glad I tried it, but I am good with it being a one time thing haha. The bread that was given to us was not good, and I usually find it hard to be negative about bread! Our entrees, on the other hand, were fantastic! I had the salmon and my husband had the filet and I would definitely recommend both! Overall, I would love to come back, but choose a different appetizer.
Gadsby's is a great place to bring friends or family visiting the area. We've been there several times and it's been consistently good each visit. The atmosphere is relaxing and they serve straight-up comfort food. Nice combo for a relaxing evening.
I enjoyed being transported back in time to George Washington's day. The restaurant's interior is consistent with a tavern & inn of centuries past. The waitstaff was pleasant & professional, and what fun that they dressed the part ! I ordered the prime rib dinner. It was excellently prepared. I thought the value was good for the ambiance & the food quality. I recommend visiting the attached museum in order to enhance your experience. I would go back again without any second thoughts.
Food and service were great as always. We’ve never had a bad experience at Gadsby’s Tavern.
Just a wonderful place to bring friends or family for a great dining experience. Period dressed staff and ambiance topped off a delicious Gentleman’s Pye!
This was one of several times that I've been to Gadsby's Tavern. The food is terrific, and while pricey it is close to average for a good restaurant in Old Town. The old-style colonial architecture and décor add to the experience. This is where George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other founders went, making it a MUST for history buffs.
Great food and great service!
We had a wonderful experience dining with our whole family for my patents’ 50th wedding anniversary.
Party of 6. No apps. Salads and meals. No substitutions, pretty standard ordering. Service was non-existent. Had to fill our water glasses ourselves three times. Food was ok. Nothing special. But not bad.
Meat loaf & roast beef were wonderful. Vegetables were exceptionally fresh. Period actor was a surprise and very well played. We will go back.
We brought out of town guests with us for dinner Sunday night. Couldn't have been nicer, the food was wonderful and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Great evening! Alexia
We were seated at a 2 person table right in front of the door. It was cramped and cold. Then, the waiter forgot to bring us bread and never put in our appetizer order. The food was not worth the price considering everything else. Worst fine dining experience I have ever had!
What a fun experience. The food was delicious and hot. The service was outstanding.
We have been there a couple of times and look forward to our return. Unfortunately this visit was poor. Food prepared incorrectly for spouse, we were done eating before we got his. Had noted that visit was for special occasion, but it wasn't mentioned or noted by anyone. Disappointed overall.
The food was disgusting. Three of us ordered the half duck and it had the consistency of beef jerky; it was very chewy. There’s no term to describe the service rendered by the waitress except for horrible.
Food was delicious ... we had heard about staff coming out and acting but didn’t get to experience it. Service was great
I had wanted eat at this historic landmark for a long time. I was not disappointed. The food was great, and it’s a bit like stepping back in time.
