Great food in a unique atmosphere. Excellent service
A little more expensive but great venue for visitors, and to dine from time to time.
Every time we have friends in town we take them to Gadsby’s. It’s always a treat.
We celebrated my daughters birthday at Gadsby’s. She loves historic sites and this did not disappoint! The food was great and our waiter was amazing! She even was surprised with a candle in her dessert!
It was all so wonderful. My out-of-state guests enjoyed it immensely, too! Thank you!!!
If you like history and cozy atmosphere this is place to be.
Lovely place with a great atmosphere. The waiters and waitresses are in colonial dress and the service is fantastic. Everything on the menu looks great and all our food was delicious. The apple cider is superb and the crab soup was also splendid. Highly recommend it.
The hessian beef was delicious as was the cockilee pie and the triffle was exquisite rly simple and tasty
Awesome experience. Also great fun to walk around Olde Towne before dining.
We had a great time in this historical tavern. Was entertaining our daughter-in-law from England and she really enjoyed everything about Gatsby Tavern.
We enjoyed the beautiful building and interior. The service and seating was great. The food and prices were excellent. I would have enjoyed a bit of introduction to the historical significance of the building (the museum was closed), I would revisit and recommend!
Your menu sounded great, but our actual food choices were not anything to write home about. I, along with another in the party had prime rib; it had a lot of fat and gristle, it was tough, and your knife selection for cutting the meat was dull and it took several swipes to get a piece unhinged from the rest so you could eat it. The third party had duck and the skin was not cooked crispy, was like eating fat, and flesh was tough. At first glance at your menu with its good and tasty selection and reasonable prices, we all initially thought to make a reservation for Thanksgiving. But, after having our meal, we decided that we will never return. As I said to the others, the success of the tavern is its long history 'cus it can't be the food.
I've got a soft spot in my heart for Gadsby's Tavern and take most guests there who visit me from out of town. You can't go wrong with the history, charm, or quality of food.
Dinners are fabulous as is their brunch. Unfortunately, lunch simply doesn't meet expectations. Burgers and fries? Sandwiches that remind one of Fridays and every other diner on the corner? No, that should not be the offerings of this amazing place.
It's five stars for dinner and brunch. Don't bother at lunch.
Food was great but plentiful. Ambiance was amazing and the staff were awesome! A great historic restaurant to enjoy great food!
55+ crowd. Quiet and empty, food below avg. does not deserve high praise I saw in reviews prior to visit. Won’t be back.
Outstanding restaurant. Glad we found this gem.
Felt like you were back in time, guy who looked like Ben Franklin came around in character to talk and sing which was fun! Just wish they told you more about the food and it’s place in history and why it was on the menu
We regularly bring out of town visitors here for the food and the history. For the first time we experienced a period re-enactor (John Douglas Hall) which brought the night to a whole new level.
Always enjoy great food and good service every time we visit!
Food was absolutely amazing, and our server was outstanding. We weren’t sure what to get but he helped us pick the amazing rum punch cocktails and some great dishes. I would recommend to anyone looking for a unique dining experience or a date night!
Gloria, our hostess was wonderful, informative and attentive.
What a gem! If you are into history and fine food, this restaurant is the complete package. The area surrounding the restaurant is very pleasant, all the modern amenities but still feeling as if you were walking back into history. But nothing quite felt like the 1700’s then stepping into Gatsbys Tavern, we were greeted by a very charming and warm waiter. He offered us a wine list which had a pleasant variety, gave our group a bread basket of a warm variety of bread, and offered us a little history of the restaurant. As much as it was a treat to sit where George Washington might have sat, the food truly topped anything I was expecting. The salmon, in particular, was so delicious.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, particularly if you have a history buff husband like I do. He adored the expierence and fine dining!
If you do anything in DC, go to this lovely little piece of history!
Perfect! Love the food - always consistently delicious.
We chose to eat here for the history and to enjoy the museum afterwards. The Sunday brunch was really great and we would definitely come back again!
Birthday - excellent
My husband and I were looking for a unique place to eat while visiting and stumbled across Gadsby’s Tavern. We absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, the history awesome, and the ambiance couldn’t be beat!
We tried Gadsby’s Tavern as a way to share a little history with my nine year old! But it turned out to be a wonderful, special evening. The food was elegant - with the children’s menu prime rib as the winner at our table! The decor was lovely. We were also treated to lovely lute music and an entertainer in period costume who charmed us with jokes and conversation in the language of the early 18th century. Was really a nice surprise and a very special evening!
We always enjoy our trip to Gadsbys. This time we took our twin grand daughters to celebrate their 12th birthdays. We knew it would be special and it was. The girls were impressed with the building. It’s heritage, the waitstaff period dress, their friendliness. and the range of food choices. One of the girls ordered the Gentleman’s Pye, a lamb/beef stew in a wine infused broth. She enjoyed every bite, including the pastry top. The other grand daughter enjoyed the peanut soup and the vegetarian dish. They felt very special—especially when they got to choose their dessert and were serenaded by the staff. Thank you for a great evening.
This place is a true Gem! The perfect balance of atmosphere and fine dining. Truly felt like we’d gone back in time 200 years!
Surreen was an excellent waiter!
All of our apps were delicious and the lemon chicken was unbelievable.
We never felt rushed and the opportunity to talk throughout our dinner was memorable.
We’ll definitely be back :-)
Crispy oysters appetizer is great. George Washington favorite (orange duck) is great with 3 or their veggies is a great deal
Great atmosphere and historic setting. Food was good, not great for the prices, but good. Perhaps lunch is their best value looking at that menu.
I enjoyed it. No background music, classic atmosphere, good service and food was pretty good. A couple of minor glitches with the food. They were really busy due to restaurant week. I will return soon.
We visited Gadsby's Tavern during restaurant week. The waiter seemed irritated when we said that we wanted to enjoy our drinks before ordering. We decided to order off the regular menu instead of the restaurant week menu, something else that seemed to irritate him. We waited forever for our entrees to be delivered, diners seated long after us were finishing their meals before receiving ours. The service was terrible and the food was very disappointing. Will never return.
This is a historical venue where George Washington
Had eaten. The food is very nice. The servers are dressed in historical outfits and do a nice job sharing a bit of our past.
Gadsby’s did well for restaurant week. It had been ages since we’ve eaten there and we were pleasantly surprised by the well thought-out menu. Our server was excellent, which always makes the meal SO much more enjoyable.
This from Restaurant Week. The food was very good; portion size was large in relation to my appetite. I saved half the entree (Salmon approx. 6 oz., spinach, and rice)for a satisfying lunch next day.
The waiater was very cheerful, fariendly and accommodating but overloaded; it looked like the waitstaff was down by one server.
The ambience was good to the Colonial peariod. However the air outside was cold, in the hi 20s, and my table next to a window had a draft of cold air coming down from the single pane window. This is a challenge to period authenticity vs the relief to be afforded by a second layer of glass. Perhaps a single pane on the outside?
Great service and wonderful food! Went for a date night and it was perfect!
My wife and daughters and I really enjoyed our meal. The ambiance was wonderful. We were looking for a historical DC area restaurant while on a trip and Gadsby’s for the bill perfectly.
The food and service were amazing. Many of our large group had restaurant week meals and a few ordered off of the menu. Our waiter was excellent at serving a group of 7. We never wanted for anything.
