Surrey Co. Peanut Soup
with garlic & ginger
Mini Crab Cakes
served with sweet corn relish and citrus cocktail sauce
It was a very quiet dinner in a historic tavern. I highly recommend the peanut soop (that is not a misspelling). We had visited the museum part of the tavern several years ago but did not have the opportunity to dine in the restaurant. We were very happy they were open for indoor dining during the coronavirus restrictions.
The meal at Gadsby’s Tavern was pretty much flawless. The service was impeccable, we had a nice quiet table to be able to have conversation, and the food was not only delicious but the portions were tremendous, which means despite the prices it was great value (compared to most of the rest of old town).
Awesome place to have a meal. A bit pricey but worth it!
Went to experience the old Tavern. It was beautiful.
Debby was awesome. Food was awesome. Atmosphere was awesome.
Excellent food presented in truly historical setting topped with witty entertainment fitting of the era. Highly recommend!!!
Our favorite place in the DC/VA area. Excellent food, the best Colonial atmosphere around, and you can’t beat the history that comes along with Gadsby’s. Haven’t had a bad meal there in over 19 years. We especially recommend the prime rib.
Nice table for two by the window. Great food and service. My wife had the prime rib and I had the duck. Both were delicious. We will be back.
Outstanding, tasty early American cuisine in an authentic historical setting! The Fried Oyster Bites and Seafood Newburgh was heavenly - extremely delicious. Similarly, one can never forget the Baked Brie En Croute! :) This was a great place for us to bring close friends for a birthday celebration. We will always cherish the memory!!
Overall a nice visit. I think the wait staff was understaffed because everyone kept racing around. Food was good. It’s a beautiful space.
It's a fun place, but my table sort of jetted out into the walkway, so people kept hitting my chair all night, like 20 times. They know they are doing this -- cramming too many tables into the main dining area, they just don't care. Food was average, too expensive really.
Never disappointed at Gadsby’s. Highly recommend this historic restaurant.
Exceeded expectations. Great environment, food was excellent, service was excellent!
Outstanding ambience, service and food/drink. Will definitely be back again.
A great place for an elegant and historic experience with exceptional food and superior service. It is well worth the higher price you pay.
Dining at Gadsby’s added so much to our experience in Alexandria. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food delicious and our colonial host Mr. Hall was gracious, funny and all around brilliant. For a history geek, you all made the evening five star. Thank you so much!!
Wonderful food! The hot apple cider was perfect on a cool day.
Food and atmosphere were perfect. Can’t wait to bring more people back here!
What a cool place, and with such an interesting history. Very good food, to boot. The sautéed spinach was great, as was GW’s Favorite.
The food was delicious and the service was perfect.
We even were lucky since there was entertainment provided by the restaurant! We will go back to try different dishes!
A true step back in time!
Valentine’s Day dinner.
Great service and ambience, but was not impressed by the dry, underseasoned main course
Great place and service but way to expensive on Valentine’s Day. Didn’t know it was a special meal that day.
val-tine day 2020. great time. toured Mt Vernon Washington’s home then came to Gadsby’s Tied together perfect!
Very quaint, great food and very entertaining. We look forward to coming back to this place!
Enjoyed the ambiance and wandering period characters. Food was pretty good - but wouldn't classify it as great. Service exceptional
One of the best dining experiences in the DC area. Slip away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a quiet candlelit meal back in time. It was a romantic evening on a cold night and my boyfriend and I immediately felt relieved when we walked in. It was cozy, quiet and the service was top notch. We sipped hot ciders, ate the naked brie (highly suggest) and had the beef bourgeois with desserts at the end. Such a special night - next time we want to request a window seat. :)
The onion soup was really delicious! However the main meal was so-so. I had the stew, which was in a very tasty gravy but had very little meat and the gravy needed to be a bit thicker. Otherwise, everything was great and the service was excellent!!
Amazing place in a warm ambiance. We had the chance to find also George Washington there while dining :-). The food is typical and excellent, the service wonderful.
I loved the character and ambience of the restaurant. We visited for lunch. The food was delicious, but the service was slow. It could have been because they were short staffed.
We loved the idea of this restaurant, but it needs a good cleaning. The dining room was not clean, and the restrooms were nasty, sadly.
The history of this place is quite unique. The fare was really yummy, and the ambience made for a great evening. Presidents Washington and Jefferson actually ate here...very cool!
The food was mediocre. The service was mediocre. The building is lovely, but not an experience I need to repeat.
This was my 3rd visit to Gadsby's, and I was once again not disappointed. This was actually the highlight of my trip, and something I had been looking forward to for a very long time. I love the history of the place and I am able to step back in time because of how well they keep things looking like they were a couple of hundred years ago. Even the staff dress for the time period. The ambience is relaxing and the food is beyond amazing. I will be back again!
Our time there was very enjoyable. The only complaint is that there was only one poor man doing everything - seating, taking the orders, serving, clearing, etc. He did a great job, but he should have had help.
Everything was wonderful! The food was delicious. Our party enjoyed the 1700's atmosphere.
The ambience in a historical building is lovely. Service was good. It was a bit loud, we thought some period music would have helped and could also contribute to the ambience. The duck was over cooked. Not many options for vegetarians.
I have always wanted to eat here for the historical ambiance, and didn't have very high expections, but the level of sevice and quality of food being served is otherwise unheard of in Old Town. The servers didn't even attempt smiles, and the food was 235 years past it's due date, the peanut soup was essentially melted peanut butter. The main clientele seems to be school buses of children. For a $15 restaurant week special, I got exactly what paid for, but I do think your money will be better spent on a tour of Gadsby Tavern, then eating basically anywhere else.
Lovely Restaurant Week menu!
We very much enjoyed the Alexandria Restaurant Week menu food as well as the warm apple cider.
