We had Sunday brunch at Gaby’s and were blown away by their prix fixe menu of delicious options. 3 courses plus coffee for $26. We could have ordered just one for both people as the portions were so large. The ambiance was very French; the service prompt and friendly. We will go back to try dinner next time.
Nice quiet place for a business breakfast. And located in mid-town between 5th and 6th. A bit hard to find.
This is one of our favorite breakfast spot in New York City! We have enjoyed many breakfasts— their blueberry pancakes are our favorite dish!! The servers are all amazing, personable and they care about you enjoying the experience of dining at Gaby’s. The French press coffee is wonderful too! A real treat and a great find in a city with a lot of options- this restaurant still remains at the very top of our list! Bon Appetit!!!
Inattentive waiter. Other patrons were offered tools from a basket; we were not. After three spoonfuls my wife gave up on the pancakes. Toast was warm but not toasted. Scrambled eggs were not good. No wonder the place was so sparsely populated.
Perfect relaxing French breakfast ! Great bread & pastries! Coffee excellent. $$$😞
We enjoyed a quaint dinner with a French flair. The menu was very French cuisine, the service was perfect, and the food not only quite good but very affordable for NYC. Much like a neighborhood boutique hotel, plenty of décor, and enjoyable.
We were here for dinner before a concert we were seeing later that evening. The food was absolutely amazing. There was not one thing I did not enjoy the taste of. The drinks were ok. I know it’s NYC, but $45 for 2 Martinis is a bit much. The only thing I would recommend is that the staff should not assume that everyone speaks Spanish. We were invited to to be seated in Spanish by the lady at the front desk although we are not Spanish and had not spoken Spanish at any point. While I appreciate different languages and cultures and speak 4 languages myself, I never assume someone speaks one language or another. I will be returning for another occasion because the atmosphere, food, and the rest of the staff were amazing. Thank you.
Very Accommodating and professional, the Brunch was delicious and great location to Theaters!!
Great for breakfast, although wait staff can be a little slow.
Good value for pre-theater dinner. Quality of the food was excellent. Service could have been better. We ordered from the abbreviated pre theater menu with four items and they brought me the wrong entree. We ordered one steak and one duck and they brought 2 steaks. I don’t know how you can get that wrong. I don’t like steak so they took it away and I waited 15 minutes for my duck and watched my husband eat. He was finished by the time they brought mine. The duck was good, but to add insult to injury, the bill came with a full price charge for the duck entree on top of the Fixed price for the two dinners! They removed it when we complained, but it shouldn’t have happened.
It was a lovely place. The food was good. Had I realized that the restaurant was in a hotel I probably would have looked elsewhere. The cost was a little more than we like to spend on brunch.
Great food and service. Generous portions and great ambiance.
Having enjoyed several visits in the past were quite surprised at the total failure of this visit. The service poor at best and not a surprise as they simply just add 20% service to the bill. Having had to multiple times make requests and then go extended periods looking for service just add insult to injury. Culminating with a complete lack of care when expressing concerns when leaving.
Where historically would recommend now recommend going elsewhere. Not worth the money you will pay.
Attending the theatre and taking my friend to lunch for her birthday. French restaurants are her favorite, and we wanted to try something new to us, in the theatre district.
Overall the food was good, but the service was terrible. It seemed as if the waiter had an appointment at 12:00 in the afternoon and couldn't wait to get it over with. He asked if we knew what we wanted to order, I then asked him for the wine list. There are some nice wine choices, even though they were expensive (example: Miraval rose was $24 a glass, which is the price of a bottle that I can buy). We asked to try the Sancerre, and then decided we would order a carafe of the Pouilly Fuisse. The waiter came back with the carafe and started to pour the wine in the tasting glasses, I indicated he needed to get us new glasses since we just tried the other wine in the glasses on the table. After getting the wine glasses. He then took our food order. I ordered a burger, which came with French Fries, and I asked for the truffle fries. We had a salad, a burger and great wine. Once the table was cleared, he put the check on the table, without asking if we wanted anything else. I said we wanted tea, and then he brought us an updated check.
Well now its time to review the check. I was charged $12 for the truffle fries (so almost $40 for burger and fries). He never indicated they would be separate, or if there was an up charge even though the burger came with French Fries. He said it was up to the chef (really). We were then over charged for the wine that we tasted and not the wine that we ordered. At this point, my friend was upset and she felt we should not tip the waiter (which is not what we did). I was disappointed that it was suppose to be a nice celebration and we were both aggravated by the poor service and lack of communication. Not a Debspick.
It took a while for our server to take our order, but other than that, it was quite good.
This was a lovely dining experience and the prix fixe menu was an excellent value. The waitstaff was warm and efficient and the food was terrific. I highly recommend the vegetable lasagna; it was outstanding. The dressing for the Camembert salad could have used a bit more acid, but the salad was still quite good. My husband enjoyed his wild salmon, and the creme brûlée was excellent. Beautiful decor and well spaced tables; would definitely return.
This was a perfect spot to enjoy dinner before the theatre. They happy to understand we had tickets but did not rush us either. The food was delicious and I would definitely make a return trip to enjoy a long leisurely dinner.
The food was very good. Both my friend and I had the price fixe dinner. The portions were adequate and there were several choices.
The food was excellent and beautifully prepared, especially the duck. The Camembert salad was delicious, and the desserts were wonderful, especially the creme brûlée. Service and atmosphere were excellent. The theater menu was also a very good value.
Excellent environment, friendly & courtesy service from host, server, et al
Steak in the steak frites was cold. It costs enough to ensure the meat wasn't cold
Overall the place lacked atmosphere. The waiter and service was find. My meal was very good; I had the octopus salad and lamb chops. My wife had the Cesar salad, which was OK and the crusted sea-bass, which was overcooked and dried out. I don't think we'll be back
Thank you for the great service and hospitality! The food was excellent!
It was restaurant week... I get it ... you pay attention to specials... not everyone wants 3 course meal... Chicken Paillard for French Bistro is a staple and should always be perfect ... ours was a collection of left over pieces cooked 3 days ago, microwaved and dry as wood !!
Came here to try the Restaurant Week menu - dinner for two. It was a girls night out. While we enjoyed the ambiance and comfortable dining room seating, the major complaint was the slow service. Don't misunderstand, good service was received when attended to but the whole pace of the meal was slow. For instance, when my appetizer arrived, my glass of wine still did not appear which most places would have brought out straight away after ordering/in between the complimentary bread basket and wait time for the food. I did receive more attentive service from the gentleman with the Spanish accent in the beige uniform (I wish I got his name) than our server (in the black uniforms). I only saw my server twice, once to order and once more for the check. Not sure if this is the norm.
Onto the food, I enjoyed the Duck Prosciutto salad as my appetizer and my Diver Scallop Dinner entrée. But I noticed inconsistencies in the food presented. A nearby table ordered the same Dinner but her scallops came with Asparagus and mine came with a red cabbage. My guest ordered the Mustard White Wine Chicken which came with risotto - the risotto was hard - al dente if you must but I've never known risotto to be described as such. It shouldn't ever be. Again, the neighboring table ordered risotto and her portion was twice the portion and soft. Go figure. This place is inconsistent in service and in food quality. I was sadly disappointed as the menu offered both RW and regular dining looked to have great options.
Wasnt really french. They deco like french but food and people who work their chinese. And food want 4.5 stars quality. I dont know how come they get those stars.
Great food and service.
Nice price fix menu for $38 per person and includes dessert.
I hadn’t been here before. We ended up eating from the restaurant week menu as it had a cauliflower and fish soup we wanted to try. We both also had a chicken dish with risotto that was excellent. The only discipline it was it is out. I had a French toast and peat combination that was try and not very flavorful.
I should have believed the bad reviews, the food is horrible!
the only thing worse than the food is the service.
NYC has hundreds of French bistros, this is NOT one of them.
take your money elsewhere.
Always wanted to try this place since I worked near it. Decided to go durning restaurant week with a friend to check it out. Had a great experience. Our waiter was Leo and he was great. Helped my friend choose a wine she liked and made us smile every time he came to the table with his little jokes. The food was amazing and cannot wait to go back to try their regular menu.
Perfect service, perfect food, perfect ambiance, perfect wine
Have stayed at Sofitel previously but have not had dinner at Gaby- received an email special offering which piqued our interest-but opted for their own prix fixe menu instead and it was not only a great deal but the food was perfectly portioned, delicious and service excellent. We’d definitely go back without hesitation.
Great service, tasty food. Delicious. We bought a Travelzoo voucher and we're very satisfied with the whole experience.
Menu is comprehensive and food is very well prepared in traditional french form. Highly recommended!
Great experience... excellent food ... service was supreme and staff very attentive and social!!! Thank you.... Ali came over to ask us how everything was and took time to listen ... very personable!! Hope to see you again soon!
Nice place. A bit cold by the seasonal windows. Great filet mignon.
Very fine service, pleasant ambiance and delicious food.
Great location for a pre-theatre brunch. Lovely setting, great customer service, and delicious food.
Excellent filet mignon. Great for having an in depth conversation, good food at a decent price in Midtown.
