Gabriel's - Santa Fe
We brought some friends from out of town for a "taste of New Mexico" - The service & ambiance were excellent and most of the food was good, except for the fish tacos which I've ordered in the past...the fish was very "rubbery" & tasteless. Other entrees were very good.
The food was delicious - small bowl of fresh guacamole, half a barbecued chicken, and brochettes de
Mariscos. Desert was the biggest sundae in the place - ice cream, whipped cream and drizzled Carmel. How could you beat that?
Arrived at 11:30, relaxed table for 5, ( 3 were children) food was great, seating area was perfect for relaxing , out of main traffic . Table side guacamole was outstanding .
The guacamole is awesome the margaritas are good thefood is ok
Dinner food was terrible. Tamale was dried out hard & tasteless. Green sauce was tasteless & minimal. Red says tasted bottled. Cheese was orange like velveeta. Have lunched here recently & food was very good.
Super long wait (1 hour ) even though we had a reservation. It was Mother’s Day, so the crowd was unusual, but the hostess could have been more realistic and set our expectations, instead of telling us 15-20 mins. Test being said, once seated, the food was great and the service was good.
I had a 5:30 reservation and wasn’t seated until 6:30. The hosted gave no apologies.
We went for dinner on Mother’s Day. The place was pretty crowded as one would expect but it became clear they were not able to maintain their typical excellent service and food quality under these circumstances. We had a 5:30PM reservation but weren’t seated until 6:15. We were seated on their outdoor patio but the temperature began to drop and the wind started to kick up. Even though we had jackets, it was not comfortable. Food took about 40 minutes to arrive and one could tell it was prepared without their usual care. The table side guacamole was not as good as it usual and was prepared by someone not well trained in the process. We’ll go back but not on a high demand day.
They had an issue in the kitchen - our reservation was for 2:15 - we were seated at 2:50 - not pleased with the wait!
We were there on the Saturday before Mother's Day and had to wait for about 45 minutes, even though we had reservations. However, we marveled at how the staff was doing its best to get everyone in and settled -- it was VERY busy. The service was excellent and the food was even better so we will most certainly go back and we WILL recommend it to others.
Even on a very busy night, Gabriel's has great food and service. Best guacamole ever - made at the table. Nice mix of traditional Mex food with some unique specialities. Been going there for years and always good.
I / we have always enjoyed our experience at Gabriels.
Nice restaurant with friendly staff and industrial uninspiring dishes. But a fun place to go with out of towners.
We thought the New Mexican food (beef enchilada) was wonderful. The Brochette was a bit overcooked as the shrimp were tough and the beef was too well-done for my liking. Gentleman friend from California had the 1/2 chicken which he thought was good. Lady friend selected Queso souop which was so spicy we had to ask for sour cream to offset the heat. She never did finish it.
We also found the noise level quite loud which made it difficult to converse with our guests.
All-in-all we felt that the overall quality had diminished compared to past visits.
I have been dining here for 26 years. The service is terrific. I always order fajitas because they are always good. My husband and a friend ordered tamales but were disappointed because they were very dry. They contained little to no sauce This was very different from past experiences.
I still highly recommend Gabriel’s
Service was extremely slow. We were seated for more than 30 minutes prior to wait staff taking our dinner order. Food was excellent when we finally got it!
Was excited To go to this restaurant after looking at the reviews that were really good on Google. Upon walking in the restaurant it seemed like it was really nice. The hostess was a teenager who was kind of snotty and didn’t even greet us just said your table is ready took us the table with a dirty look. set down the menus in the middle and just walked away she didn’t even wait for us to sit down before she left. After that the entire meal went downhill . We had absolutely no idea who was actually our waiter . One gentleman took our drink order another took our meal order ( which they forgot to add my sisters meal to so it came out about 15 minutes after everyone else’s ) then another brought the food. At no point did anyone ever check on us. We were stuck in a back corner and we could see the waiters going back-and-forth to other tables so when we could possibly get the attention of somebody we would wave them down and say we need a drink or whatever and they would rush off to get it. except that we needed more than that because there were nine of us and they never checked on us. but they never gave us the opportunity to give them the whole list they just rushed off to get that one thing so they constantly had to go back-and-forth to the table because they wouldn’t listen to us. I was also upset that we ended up paying an automatic 18% gratuity because of the amount of people that we had. Under no circumstances did they deserve it. We were very upset when we left and felt like we were not important as customers to them. The food it’s self was a disappointing as well. I would not go back under any circumstances. The next day we stopped at Arby’s for lunch and it was amazing. Save your self the time, money, and irritation and just each there! 100%
Great food and atmosphere! Enjoyed our time there.
Gabriel’s is always fun with excellent service, ambience, libations and very good, abundant food - highly recommended. We take out of town friends and relatives there.
Our waiter Orlando was outstanding. Food and service are great. Great New Mexican atmosphere.
We hd a very good meal here. The guacomole made table side is the absolute best in town. Outside eating is also great in warm weather.
Found Gabriel’s through Trip Advisor. We were very pleased with our dinner experience. Food was wonderful as was the service and ambiance. Their special guacamole that they make at your table was very yummy!
Great food in huge portions. Al Fresco dining is a nice option. Varied menu with something for everyone.
The food was great. No heat to the Chile or guacamole. But overall it was very nice.
The best meal we had in Sante Fe was a lunch at Gabriels. Peter our waiter was wonderful- attentive, informative, and very kind. The table side prep if guacamole was fun and the end product perfect in consistency and delicious! Each of our party of three ordered something different and we were all pleased with the freshness, taste, and quantity. The margaritas were perfect and the setting inside and out lovely — we will return!
My favorite restaurant. Food, service always excellent. Keep up the goid work!
Made reservation. Seated when we checked in. Service speedy, food excellent.
Love the service, staff and food. Never miss it when we are in the area! Thank you!
For authentic New Mexican food at a reasonable price, this is the place. It was a bit of a drive but worth it. We all felt like we ate too much, but it was nice to try and experience!
We've never even heard of this place, and I've been by there so many times..one of my friends from Santa fe recommended we go there, but we live in south Albuquerque wich is quite a drive just to go out for a new experience, anyway my wife, son, and I decided tomake d trip....Woooow..its all worth it,my wife was amazed,d food is incredible ,service was extraordinary..everyone treated us with with do respect...we're from cuauhtemoc chihuahua, and really enjoyed our dinner,we're telling lots of people about Gabriel's and great experience we had...a big applause to everyone there..we'll see you again....Raul -505-203-3931
Average Mexican food. Very noisy. Not worth a drive from Santa Fe.
The food we ordered had no chili taste and the food did not meet my expectations. I expected more of a southwest flavor but found that the dishes were quite bland.
Gabriel's food is always great. However, on this visit they first tried to seat us directly in front of the Ladie's room. They quickly reseated us, but the noise level really prohibited conversation. In warmer weather on the Patio it is much more relaxing.
Gabriel's is my tried and true. It's not all fussy and while it's always busy it never feels frantic. It just feels authentic and I think in at least 20 years I had only one mishap which was we had reservations for a larger group (I think it was maybe 8) and they didn't seem to have us down. But we opted to put tables together in the bar and it was wonderful as always. I've been back 2-3 times since then and it has been perfect. It is moderately priced but has the feel of a fine restaurant in Old Mexico for special nights.
The tableside guac is to die for. The main dishes are good - not too hot and not too bland. They never rush you and the service is unobtrusive but enough. Sometimes I hear people sneer about Gabriel's in favor of some of Santa Fe's wildly expensive and highly over-rated and sometimes snooty newer establishments. I love Gabriel's and remain loyal for special occasions or just because. I'm looking forward to another summer of dinners on the patio before the opera!
Inside, my tip is the tables in the bar. The larger rooms can be noisier because it's usually full. Opt for a corner in the bar - quiet, intimate, and wonderful between the fireplace and the window.
Gabriel’s is always a nice experience.
This night was a work function for some people from/outside of NM.
1. It was so easy and convenient to reserve on open table
2. it was so easy to leave notes to the restaurant
3. they were so accommodating for out group of 10
4. the split the checks without any problems
5. considering our group, the food all came out correct and still hot
6. they didn't rush us to leave or rush us to check out
7. they were attentive the whole night
8. best part, one person had a birthday and they did a great job of helping celebrate
Really good classic mexican, posole, guac, carnitas.
Food was underwhelming. Nothing was ‘bad’ but nothing was ‘good’ either. Staff was working hard and attentive.
Very well run. Great service and food. A bit dated, but overall nice experience.
It took ten minutes for anyone to come to our table. We had no water or waiter even in the room. We had a back room that was very sterile and more or less neglected at times.
