My family and I few to New York for a weekend Christmas shopping getaway. My boyfriend and I desperately wanted to dine at least one night at a Michelin start restaurant. After much research we choose Gabriel Kreuther. Very excited! We arrived at the restaurant 3 minutes before our 9:00pm reservation. 9:00pm is such a late meal for 2-hour experience. When we arrived, they told us our table wasn’t ready and offered we grab drinks at the bar while we wait (which were we basically forced into because there was no place to stand at the front). I was annoyed because we were going to purchase multiple bottles of expensive wine at dinner and it was already late, so we didn’t want to sit and order 4 expensive cocktails on top of that. We sit at the bar for ENTIRELY to long before the bartender finally takes our dinner order. When he does, the hostess tells us its time to be seated at our table. Its like we wouldn’t have even ordered cocktails if it was going to be that short. So dumb. We are led to our table and the cocktails are brought over later. I was surprised how the venue was decorated for it being a French restaurant. Expected something a little more traditional but it was still very nice.
Service. This is a two Michelin star restaurant and the level of service we received was appalling.
The man serving our wine disappeared after he opened our 2nd bottle and never refilled our glasses. I took the bottle to go just so they couldn’t have it.
The recommended wine selections were awful.
1 lady spilled sorbet all over my phone and didn't notice/apologize
Poor performance on choreographed dishes being serviced. Not in-sync
Most waiters you could barely understand what they were saying the food was which already looked frightening at times.
2 words. Liver. balls. REMOVE FROM THE MENU
Would not recommend to anyone. Fiola in Washington DC has one star and was 10000% better food and SERVICE
This was our second meal in the dining room. The table captain, some and serving staff were attentive and friendly. The food exceeded our expectations. This is definitely one of my top dining experiences in NY
Exceptional dining experience from this 2-star Michelin restaurant. Made a 5:30 pm reservation to take my girlfriend for her birthday. Restaurant will call a day before to confirm you are still coming and to ask if you have any allergies and if there is a special occasion. Since we were among the first to arrive we were seated at the bar while the staff had their prep meeting, cocktail menu is varied as well as their wine list. We were seated in a corner table that afforded views of the entire dining room, which was nice. We chose the Chef's Carte Blanche Menu, which comes in at $245 per person. This is a 15 course sampler, which is very exotic in it's ingredients as there are truffles and caviar included. There is also a $195 Heritage Tasting Menu, but we decided to go for the bigger option to get the full experience. Each course was magnificent and so expertly plated it was like eating art. We paired it with a $285 bottle of California cab that paired well with everything. I really do recommend this for a special occasion, but beware. This is extremely pricey regardless of what you choose. You can get seated by the bar and avoid the tasting menus and pick and choose a regular meal from the shorter menu, but if you do the tasting be prepared to shell out no less that $500 for two people. But damn, it's good.
excellent, creative, delicious - couldn't ask for a better French restaurant in the US.
Amazing lunch! The food was spectacular and the portion sizes for lunch was perfect. The service was friendly and professional and overall incredible. Look forward to my next visit and can hopefully add the wine pairings to the meal. Great experience.
This one of the best restaurants in New York. Every dish is special. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Not to be missed.
Beautiful place, good service, delicious food, tasty wine, really expensive.
Creative cuisine, superb service.
Excellent services, fantastic and well prepared food, unthinkable food presentation. We definitely will be back for their incredible tasting menu. No wonder for their 2-star Michelin Ranking!
Amazing! Excellent service and the food was spectacular! Pricey but worth it.
This restaurant is really creating an art experience; bringing tasteful attention to every detail and every aspect. Service is remarkable, you can tell people are proud to work there. The food is Devine. It's the best meal of my life.
Love love love this place. Food, service, decoration, everything is just perfect. Amazing cocktails. The only con is that it took us 3.5h to finish the traditional tasting menu. We were told it would only take about 2 - 2.5h to finish it.
This was not a two star Michelin experience -- perhaps not even one star. We were 3 on a Friday evening - we had cocktails, the top tasting menu, two of us had the wine pairing, a third drank whiskey.
A couple of particular issues: (1) The restaurant requires that a single main course be shared by the table. We had the duck breast. We were served a single breast cut in thirds, while we saw neighboring tables of 2 receive the same breast cut in half. We pointed this out and received the absurd explanation that the chef wanted to avoid "waste." When pressed, we were reluctantly brought an added breast. (2) The restaurant offered caviar service as an expensive add on. They did not tell us, and should have, that the tasting menu included a caviar course.
More generally, service was disorganized and sloppy. It feels like the restaurant is too large to maintain standards. A drink was ordered and never delivered. A sommelier made much of his pairing of a French Malbec with the fish course, but it accompanied the duck, there was no further fish course. He did apologize. The duck was described as a form of Peking Duck. It was not. The fat was not rendered. Conch from Montauk was served along with an incoherent explanation as to how it was caught by local fisherman (who, we were told, venture out to catch whatever comes their way). The wine pairing included some clinkers and the pours were short (for a wine pairing) resulting in extended periods with nothing to drink. The cocktails were creative. Waiters casually reached across diners -- arms in our faces -- partly due to poor table spacing. We pointed it out, but it continued intermittently.
The food was generally solid. Like any sizable tasting menu there were hits and misses. Low points -- slimy, tasteless, venison tartar and disappointing Alsatian Tarte Flambe. High points - caviar on nori cornbread; sturgeon sauerkraut tart; duck breast; duck confit ravioli. The desserts were meh.
It's my first tasting menu and it was amazing. The entire dinner was almost 4 hours and the service was incredible. Each dish was elegant and tasty. After dinner, they will give you the menu for the entire meal and also some chocolate to bring home.
Excellent food, painfully expensive of course, but still a wonderful experience!
Perfect meal from entering the restaurant to leaving. Fantastic food and a lovely complimentary birthday cake
One of the most special places in New York. From the moment you walk into this space, your senses are taken over by the visual calm and beauty of this place. The service is impeccable and the food fabulous.
We began with the salad which was so tasty and the tuna appetizer. They were both excellent. Then we had the duck and trout. Every bite was delish. The chocolate dessert was sweet and a wonderful ending to a spectacular meal.
We went for a birthday lunch. A perfect spot for a special occasion!
Exquisite...2 Michelin stars are well deserved. The tastings were beyond expectations and appropriately timed and proportioned.
This is the second time we go there for a special dinner occasion. The first time was amazing. Tonight we went back to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we both thought it was even more amazing. Every thing about the experience was superb. We look forward to dine here again soon.
This is a special restaurant. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Both the meal and the wines were outstanding. While it is very expensive it is perfect for a special occasion. This was one of my top couple dinning experiences.
Extraordinary. The food was spectacular and the service amazing. Expensive but worth it.
Thank you for making our 30th wedding anniversary memorable
I was there by myself. I requested that the food be brought to me faster than is normally done with groups that have someone to talk to in between courses. Dinner still took 3 hours 20 minutes. I would have been much happier if this had been an hour and a half.
A favourite, a repeat, a gem. The food speaks for itself, and the atmosphere is sublime.
It was perfect! The entire experience was just excellent. Beautiful setting with great good and wine, a polite unobtrusive staff who were so calmly kind and attentive to my food allergies. Food quality was top notch. Three course luncheon was very smartly priced-a great value.
Really-it was perfect in every way.
Exceptional service. Food mostly excellent but steak tasting tough and hard to cut. We did 9 courses but sorry we didn't do 6. Wine pairing at 250 a person was way too expensive on top of 250 a person for food. Sommelier was delightful. Service excellent.
Best service. Best food. Sensitive to allergies. Should be three Michelin stars. AMAZING.
Very heavy. Seafood dishes were the highlight. Forgot to give us
Went for a nice dinner out with a girlfriend and everything was outstanding. The menu was interesting without being pretentious and the service was warm and helpful without being obtrusive. The tasting menu was reasonably priced compared to other Michelin starred restaurants in NY. The sommelier chose a wine perfect for our palates well within our desired price range. Definitely worth it.
I went for my birthday food was outstanding service was great had a wonderful night highly recommend it
In all senses marvelous!
It was absolutely amazing!! The most amazing dining experience.
Every single moment in the course of a meal at Gabriel Kreuther is an adventure in creativity and sensational taste. The multiple small creations that come out even before the first official "course" are a feast for the senses. The satisfying combination of French/German Alsatian tastes with ultra-refined sophistication is a treat. Service is knowledgeable and charming. The wine list is most impressive, featuring many selections to be found nowhere else. In short, dining at this restaurant is unquestionably one of the most exciting things one can do in New York
Gabriel Kreuther has a very high standard, and never disappoints. The artistry of the food is evident, and the service is always outstanding, which is very important considering the multiple courses. The wine pairings are exceptional as well. I have brought many out-of-town guests here, and they uniformly say it is one of the best meals they have ever had.
Outstanding as always. My go-to for a high-end business lunch where you'd like to impress.
Truly outstanding in every way. Great creative food and excellent service. A very special experience.
Amazing experience! Excellent dishes and perfect service. We will definitely come back again.
