i mean it is a nice spot but definitely zero wow factor. Especially for their prices. The waiter was alright but he seemed bothered and uninterested in his job.
Waitress, Jenna was awesome. Checked on us frequently but not too much. Filets lacked flavor and scallops were little gritty but lack nice flavor
Perfect location fir a first-time experience. Maybe specific location in the vineyards would help-parked and had to go back and get the car to re-park because we were too far away. Decent and quaint menu and very attentive waiter.
Awesome service! Josh was attentive and EXCELLENT in customer service. All beers are in the can/bottle nothing on draft. Food presentation and quality was impressive! Will be back very soon!
We had a party of five and each person ordered a different sandwich at lunch. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and we all had a wonderful time. Love the ambiance also!
Our meals - salad with shrimp and pulled pork sandwich - were excellent, the wine we selected was delicious and the service efficient without being rushed. Our only ‘complaint’ would be that it is very popular and making a reservation is essential, so a spontaneous decision to go for lunch or dinner is practically impossible.
Extremely limited menu, on four choices for a main course, service was slow. Beautiful drive to get their through fields of grape vines
The new menu isn't as diverse as previously and the entrees are rather bland in comparison to previous visits. Service is excellent.
We ate lunch outdoors on a beautiful day. We each had a wine flight, one red and one white. The food was good, but EVERYTHING was carb heavy. No salad without fruit. I miss savory.
Light meal for lunch. Outside seating very comfortable and scenic.
We had Memorial Day lunch outside. Service, drinks and salads, one with a crab cake and one with salmon we excellent. It adjacent to the winery which is convenient. Very pretty setting and always a favorite!
For experience and wine only. To pricey for casual dining
We had a wonderful time! Wine was delicious! And I would definitely come back for the turkey brie sandwich on French bread!!!
First visit and were very pleased with food, staff and ambiance. Will definitely keep on the short list of places to visit when we return to Williamsburg.
Lunch menu provides a nice selection of delicious seafood, salads sandwiches and more formal entrees. We enjoyed the crab cake served in a sandwich and also as an add-on to the Wessex Salad. Desserts were created for the midday enjoyment.
Wine selections from the Winery's own vineyard were complementary with the luncheon
menu. Also available were creative concoctions from the bar.
We had a wonderful young man, Josh, to serve us. He provide enthusiasm and humor in his interactions with us.
Our waiter was brand new - but he was so nice and made our meal very enjoyable. Other than that, no high marks. The hostess was not at all friendly. We had a reservation and asked for an inside table as it was a hot day. She curtly advised that she had just seated the last indoor table; however, when I went inside to use the Ladies Room, only about a quarter of the tables were filled. The food was unimaginative and pedestrian. It was good - but not more than that. For what it was, I felt it was price-y. So kudos to the new guy for saving our experience. Oh - and we ordered a dozen oysters for an appetizer and they came at the same time as the meals with no horseradish sauce. That took another 5 minutes to come. It wasn't the waiter who served the meal.
Went here for noon tasting and then lunch. Everything was wonderful. I would suggest if eating outdoors you request to be under the grape arbor, the other outside area is slightly depressing. Tomato soup was excellent, oysters were delicious, and the burger was also very tasty. Would definitely visit again to try out the dinner menu.
After an amazing tasting of several WW wines we had an amazing meal at the Gabriel Archer Tavern. The attendants were very personable and answered our questions about several menu items...we were most satisfied with all of our choices. We had more than an excellent meal at the tavern...we had a memorable experience that we will remember always. Can't wait to return to Williamsburg...and the Williamsburg Winery.
The weather was nice. The outside patio dining was pleasant. The service was polite albeit unenthusiastic. So much for the good.
The food was a disaster. I ordered the bowl of mushroom soup. The first bowl came cold. The second bowl was ok. We inquired, is there a cracker or a roll with the soup. The terse answer was no. So I ordered the too salty tough with gristly ham flatbread and it came after my soup was finished. In the meantime, my husband was served his very delicious spring pea soup, unfortunately it was not hot either but he ate it anyway. After I had finished eating, his unremarkable crab cake sandwich showed up and I watched him eat that. There was little sense to be made of their serving strategy.
It wasn't an inexpensive lunch. Very disappointing.
A great place to eat outside on a nice day. Food is always great!
Everything was wonderful. Food was very good. Our server was outstanding.
We always enjoy having lunch with friends at the restaurant. The food selections are terrific. The location near the vines is picturesque. We food and service was excellent.
Hadn't been to Gabriel Archers in over 18 months, we were really missing lunches and wine there. They didn't loose a beat, food was creative and very well prepared, as we had come to expect. Looking forward to having dinner one weekend now that we are fully vaccinated and trying to get back to some normalcy.
They are practicing the Covid procedures very well, with a complete wipe-down of each table when the party leaves.
Dining outside under pergola…..great
Salads…..ugly….both were wilted and not tasty. Sauce was good but could not cover for salad greenery condition.
First ever bad experience. Advised server. Nothing said.
Member of wine club combined lunch with quarterly pickup. Will we return….Yes. Certain this will be fixed and not repeated.
Our server was not friendly, and my crab cake was the worst I’ve ever had. My husband ordered a medium burger and came out well done.
Staff and service is always great and the food is awesome. Had the pleasure of seeing the vineyard owner who was also having lunch. Total gentleman.
Very relaxing atmosphere, service and food excellent
Reservations are required by going to their web site. The wait staff were very cordial and very friendly. Definitely a 5 star resturant as well as the wait staff. We never had a bad experience when visiting. It's a doagain.
I will recommend it to my daughter and her fiancé and other young couples too.
Food was very good. Patio setting always lovely. Our server was exceptional! I will be back again this week and certainly would recommend it.
Delicious as always with a bottle of WW Claret
Food flavorful and well prepared. Service delightful! Not expensive. Would do again.
The outside room was very loud. Perhaps some rugs or wall hangings would absorb some of the sound.
Gabriel Archer was really fine we ate outside it was beautiful the waiter was very personable on a food with a good value and delicious. I have a catfish sandwich which was the special of the day.
Lunch was laid back - tables were appropriately separated for distancing, server was extremely friendly and the drinks were generous and well made - my wife and I each had a sandwich and we split the sandwiches so each of us had a half of the Roast Beef and cheese and the Caprese salad - both were served with a side salad which was perfectly dressed - the sandwiches were well prepared and tasty - we will definitely be back soon!!
Had great service and nice atmosphere. Would recommend.
Sitting on the patio enjoying conversation and consistently delicious food makes Gabriel Archer Tavern a favorite place. In the future, I will request a table away from the hostess stand which was quite loud. I did learn this next tip from overhearing the hostess advising a guest: one can order food to-go from the establishment and take it down to the duckpond (onsite) to eat at the picnic tables. We walked down there afterwards-it is lovely.
Cheese board (which included various meats and jam) was excellent. However, my wife and I ordered 35 dollar filets and they were both over cooked (I ordered medium rare and my wife medium. I received a medium and my wife received well done) and had a far amount of fat/gristle on them. Definitely not the quality of steak that I was expecting. There was almost no one there (maybe 4 other tables) so this wasn't something due to being busy. So based on this I can't recommend the tavern, unless you are just going for cheese/wine; in which case I would definitely recommend.
It was a beautiful day so we ate outside. On this particular day while we were enjoying our time, the owner of the winery and his wife stopped at each table and chatted as they passed by. As always, we had excellent service by Jackie. All the staff is friendly and you feel welcome from the moment you are greeted by the hostess.
Great wine and food and service. Porch under the pergola is the way to go.
