G. Michael's Bistro & Bar Ratings and Reviews
With reservations, we had a nice, quiet table at the back of the main room. Atmosphere for us was quite nice, however the lights by the windows were quite bright, and I imagine sitting there would have been much less pleasant. We had great cocktails and a nice bottle of wine. Prices were as expected and food was delicious. We’ll definitely be back.
As always the food and service exceeded our expectations. We were fortunate that we ordered all the specials from appetizers through entrees to dessert. Actually, our dessert was a second order of our appetizer, which was Oysters Rockefeller. We enjoyed it so much that we decided we wanted it for our dessert.
This was a great choice before my boyfriend and I saw a musical at the Ohio Theater. The food was delicious. We ordered the muscles to start off with which were spicy and cooked in a tomato garlic sauce. You get a good amount of muscles for two or three people and the sauce was perfect for dipping bread in afterwards.
For our entrees, we ordered the duck and the rabbit. The duck was cooked perfectly and the sauce was sweet without being overwhelming. The rabbit was like a hardy/meaty stew. It was not my plate, but from what I could taste it was just as good. Would highly recommend both options.
To finish we had the Double Chocolate Pots du Creme (this is rich but delicious) and the lemon gingersnap tart. I'm not much of a lemon dessert person but this tart was wonderfully light. The passion fruit sauce on it is addicting. All in all it was a great experience and our waitress (I think her name was Heather) was great!
Birthday celebration was disappointing. Both meals were tough/overcooked; lamb shank and veal. Resturant was crowded, tables too close and servers were too close; behind us and beside us. Manager did comp both meals after we made him aware. We ordered coffee and dessert. Coffee too strong and dessert, lemon tart, was too tart and ginger crust was stale.
This was not an experience we plan to repeat, unfortunately.
This is the second year my wife and I brought the extended family to G. Michael's. Everyone loved their food. Love the house salad and the shrimp and grits were delightful. Steaks were done to perfection and the vegetarian entree was delicious. We finished up with the pecan pie and the pots du creme. There is a nice selection of wine as well. Our waiter was outstanding and attended to our every need.
First time there. Couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Excellent and friendly service. They kindly accommodated an allergy to dairy. Sometimes this results in food that is not as tasty, however, that was not the case. We are looking forward to visiting there again.
My husband and I came here for a New Year's celebration. We did have to wait, despite having reservations. However, we know that a holiday is a busy night. Service at the bar, host station and our table were exceptional. Our server was kind, warm and knowledgeable. I had lobster in a bed of shrimp and grits, an exceptional value. This was the best meal we have had in years.
Normally G. Michael’s is a great experience, but unfortunately not tonight, which was New Year’s Eve. Perhaps it was the holiday rush, but four of our six entrees (yes, four out of six) were prepared incorrectly. Two of them we sent back, and they came out wrong a second time. The kitchen’s only concern seemed to be speed (as evidenced by burnt food that was still somehow also cold), and the gruffness and insincerity of the staff deterred us from saying anything further (though it was quite bewildering to watch a staff member literally yank a plate of food from our friend’s hands, a bizarre move that almost seemed designed to remove the evidence rather than fix the problem). Mistakes do happen of course, but it seems to me if you’re in the business of selling $50 steaks, it shouldn’t take three tries to get one right. And if there is a problem, things should be set right with the customers. The one bright spot was our waiter, who was fabulous and made the best of a bad situation. Perhaps try this place on a slower night. It usually is a great meal.
We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and made reservations through Open Table with a note regarding our special occasion. No mention of it was made at anytime. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, and the food was good and delivered in good time. $30 for 3 scallops was a little over the top, however. My husband had a huge bowl of lasagne and ate every last bit. Our bill was $120, plus tip.
We were seated at a corner table in the back room and until several large parties left, could not hear a thing between them, the kitchen staff loudly calling out orders and the servers with the dishes, glasses, etc. for setting and clearing tables.
Happy hour there would be a better bet for us.
Went for an early dinner after watching Nutcracker at Ohio Theater. Restaurant was already almost full at 5pm. Our waitress was very attentive, helpful and polite, without being on our face. We were three of us and shared the calamari and shrimp and grits as starters. That was followed by trout, turbot and pork cutlets for main dishes. All dishes were good, but did not live up to our expectations, based on previous reviews - with the exception of shrimp and grits, which was to die for. The bigger problem at the restaurant was the air-conditioning, which went on and off the whole evening above our heads and made us very uncomfortable. I would go there again, sit somewhere else and have the shrimp and grits to myself!
Somehow this was my first visit to G. Michael's and I can't wait to go back! The trout was one of THE best dishes I've had in my life. We also had the rack of lamb special which was delicious. We couldn't get over their sauces and flavors! The service was fantastic as well and I'll be going back very soon.
Quite honestly, this was a perfect dining experience. The host and servers were incredibly attentive, polite, and friendly. I don't think I have ever enjoyed an assortment of creative dishes as much as I did last night. The food was the best I have ever had. 5/5.
