G. Michael's Bistro & Bar Ratings and Reviews
G. Michael's is fantastic! This was our second visit to this gem of German Village and both times both my wife and I left saying it was the best meal of the year. At this point, having 4 meals between the two of us that were all fantastic I feel pretty safe in saying that G. Michaels can be trusted with any dish and is truly one of the best restaurants in Columbus (and maybe THE best).
We love G. Michael's and will certainly be back and recommend them to anyone.
My wife and I travel to Columbus a few times a year for a weekend and various activities. G. Michael's has been a favorite for several years. It is always elegant without being stuffy or formal, with excellent food. Our waiter, Timothy, helped make the last visit most enjoyable by guiding us in our selection of entrees and selecting the wine based on our preferences - all factors that elevated the meal from very good to excellent.
This G. Village restaurant is so much better than 99% of all Cbus places. Everything seems like it was cooked with "love" as my wife said. The calamari was excellent the sweetbreads were excellent. Just the fact that I can say the sweetbreads were anything shows how different the food is here. I had the Rabbit Ragout, which was a little spicy, stuck to my ribs and was perfect low country cooking. My wife had the leg of lamb which was mouthwateringly perfect. The sides were done with just as much care as the main dish and were absolutely delicious. My only complaint, even though the service was overall excellent. is my wife and I couldn't finish and we asked to have it packed up to go, which the waitress did, but she shaved off the lamb from the bone and must have thrown the bone way. This really was a shame because we had planned to give it to our dog for a treat. Next time we will have to specify we actually want the bone and this really is a doggy bag! lol.
Though wonderful year round, when the weather turns chilly, our thoughts inevitably turn to Chef Tetzloff's astonishing creations. Shrimp & Grits, Chopped Salad with Pulled Pork, Braised Lamb Shank, New York Strip, and Bacon-Braised Rabbit Ragout graced our table this visit. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Rioja. Lastly, I don't know who makes their Pecan Pie but this creation might just be their ticket to stardom. G. Michael's is great reason to revel in the turning of the leaves.
Always new and unique menu items, updated throughout the year. Always attentive (not overbearing) service and a comfortable, modern atmosphere. Staff always go above and beyond to make us feel welcome and ensure we have a pleasant experience. Make sure to save room for dessert!
Long islands were like drinking a soda. I order them with no sour so I can taste the alcohol, but that didn't even help. It tasted like a diet coke. The meal was good and service however the dessert, pecan pie was horrible. Dry, not creamy at all. Noone at our table could even eat it.
A little bit overpriced for food that wasn't that impressive. The Brussells sprouts were undercooked, the duck was way too chewy, and the wedge salad was just not good. The drinks were decent. If I come back, it will probably be for happy hour, and not the food menu.
Food cooked to perfection. We both got lamb, one the shank and the other the special. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall a wonderful experience. We’ve been here several times and have always had exceptional service and food.
We had never checked this restaurant out and what a surprise! The chef is Charleston, SC, trained and a new menu was rolled out the night of our reservation featuring many southern-inspired flavors. It was delicious! The service was good and the ambiance was very quiet and romantic. Can't wait to go back!
New seasonal menu now available. The chef here is spectacular! Always creative and delicious!! All 4 people in our party enjoyed their selections, particularly the scallops dish cooked to perfection and the new seasonal chopped salad. The dessert favorite was the pecan pie. ALWAYS a treat to dine at G. Michael's! Our favorite neighborhood gem!!!
All four of us very much enjoyed our meal. Three of our party ordered the rack of lamb and were extremely pleased, and one was happy to know that one of the sides could be amended to her liking. I ordered the halibut, which was undeniably the finest halibut preparation I have ever enjoyed, and that includes one that I had in Alaska. All of us can attest to the high quality of our pecan pie a la mode, as well! Service was friendly, attentive, but not overbearing, and our server made sure we were all paid up and ready to go in plenty of time for the concert we were attending that evening. We'll all be back, together or separately!
The service, atmosphere, appetizer, and desert were good. However, the main course suffered from fancy chef technique. Outside of the meat, the dishes were lacking in anything but vegtible crumbs and heavy oil, although the presentation was good. The swordfish tasted as if it were soaked in butter for a week, rather than being coated in flavorful spices.
We have been coming here for several years now. We save G Michael's for special occasions and have never been disappointed. The service has always been attentive and friendly, the food is always excellent, and the ambiance is upscale but not pretentious. one of the gems of Columbus dining.
