Fuze Italian - 21st Street Ratings and Reviews
Great spot. Amazing red sauce, and the a la fuze option is a great addition to any entree especially salmon. It's a byob so even though some prices are on the high side, it's still a value. Get the meatball - trust. And the Caesar salad which serves 4. And of course the tira misu.
Reservations for two of us. When we arrived the hostess attempted to seat us at the worst table (by wall and kitchen door) in a virtually empty restaurant. I asked to be seated elsewhere and she seemed annoyed and said she would have to check. We ended up eating outside and got to hear the Thursday night band playing in town. Our food was very good and our server was lovely but when we left the restaurant and looked in, it was still empty. You have a reservation and restaurant is empty you should get the best seat in the house! Food good but lacks ambiance and needs tutorial at hostess desk.
Customer service was excellent. We felt bad for the waitress- she had to deliver the news that there was no fresh pasta, which is what Fuze is known for. Our lovely waitress also had to deliver the bad news ... there really are no seafood dishes available either. I was disappointed ... in the past Fuze was 5 star. Our Uber driver commented these same dinner things happened to him 2 weeks prior. Bummer!
We had a great experience at Fuze. Brandon was a great waiter that was very informative & professional. I enjoyed his recommendations. We enjoyed the dinner & service for our anniversary so much we had our parents go once we arrived home. My wife & I look forward to more dinner dates at Fuze while on the island.
New chef from last year's chef .food was blah. This was our favorite restaurant but we will never go back again.
Service and the matre'd were very poor.
Never came back to offer more coffee. After waiting 20 minutes we had to flag down a busboy to take our check to be paid.Last years Fuze Italia was outstanding. The other Fuze closed up and moved their chef and staff to Fuze Italia.
Now we know why they closed.
This is a decent red sauce Italian byob. The special beet salad was very good. Eggplant parm extremely generous portion but red sauce is too salty. Good service.
Ask about prices of specials or you'll be shocked by a $49 veal chop parm !
My biggest problem with this place is that back room with the horrible lighting. All the tables for two are against one wall with this awful overhead lighting. I should have asked for a different table because it wasn't even crowded on a weekend night ( a bad sign!)
Ask to sit in front room only or outside. Probably one and done with this place.
Okay spot, but not great. Salmon for instance is not wild sockeye which you come to expect in nicer Avalon spots. Our waitress was very pleasant, but we all thought spread too thin with her workload. Try it though. You may go on a better, slower night.
Our server was fantastic - she was very attentive and guided us to some of the best things on the menu! Wonderful house-made fettuccini and the "A la Fuze" sauce / seafood was awesome. It was a gorgeous night for outdoor dining and the patio was comfortable. We'll definitely be back!
Last minute date night for the two of us. Food was delicious but very long wait for it. Took quite a while for someone to take our order after we were seated. Our main course took well over an hour to get once we ordered. No one apologized for the wait. Our waitress was complaining about another table to us which was a turnoff. This was our first time here. We dine out quite a lot and wouldn't return here based on service. It's a shame because the food was really quite delicious.
Went for my husband's birthday, Thurs 6/23. I had 6 guests in my party, including 3 brawny gentlemen. We had to switch our table, the banquette area can't accommodate 3 brawny gents and their SO's.
Hostess - Not pleasant nor able to handle the crowd professionally, she never even welcomed us, smiled or offered any pleasantries. No server had been assigned to our newly located table! Waited 20 minutes, then whet up and asked the hostess where are server was...again, she gave me a very annoying look. In the mean time, we had wine that needed to be opened and we needed water & ice.
Service - expected better trained runners, bussers and servers. No shared plates given, had to ask, no silverware after they cleared appy course, had to ask, no follow up after courses were served..."how is everything", "Can I get you anything".....our server was MIA.
Food - Average Italian fare, I expected better. Menu is dated and choices are limited. Veal cutlet was thick and tough. Needed more pounding.
Prices were average for this type of restaurant.
Advice - MANAGERS train your staff.
I would go again to see if any improvements have been made.
We love Fuze for a dinner with family and friends! The food is fabulous. Don't miss the Sunday gravy or the homemade pasta (although we were disappointed they didn't have homemade pasta at our last visit). The service is friendly and you never feel rushed. Be sure to make a reservation.
A warm welcome and attentive service are two important qualities of a great restaurant. Fuze Italian has both. The menu offered value as well as variety. The food in a word, excellent. Clean plates all around. Try the family style Ceaser salad. The creamy dressing has hints of lemon and anchovy and is sure to satisfy. Another nice touch was the inclusion of a roasted garlic blossom with the fresh from the hearth bread. Our party had various dishes, all were serves piping hot. Hint: Top off your entrée with the "ala Fuze", well worth the upcharge.
1st night of Restaurant Week and the staff was not trained or ready. Our waiter was assisted by bus staff that did not know much about serving at all. We had to ask for flatware as well as typical necessary condiments for the dishes we ordered -- fresh ground pepper, hot pepper flakes, grated cheese. We asked them to take their time bringing our appetizers, which arrived quite soon after our request. They ended up bringing our neighboring table's order to us -- we each ordered the calamari appetizer but they also ordered a salad. We sent the salad back and kept the calamari. It was then discovered that we received their order. The calamari was overly breaded and too salty. I ordered Frutti de Mare, which was quite bland.
Be forewarned that everything is a la carte - you select the "protein" and then add what you want as sides. There aren't that many sides to select from. I find this kind of menu to be a lazy way of presenting a chef's work. The price of our meal was just under $100 for 2 people and a big disappointment. They will have to change the menu presentation and have a well-trained staff for us to return to this restaurant.
By the way, our waiter mentioned the demands of Restaurant Week on the restaurant and staff, however, this was a Thursday night in early June and the restaurant was barely half full. If they were not ready for this planned event, I definitely would not go there during the busy summer season.
