Fushimi - Staten Island Ratings and Reviews
The food is always delicious - - sushi, tuna, Scottish salmon, beef, salads, special appetizers, special rolls, and more.
Service leaves a lot to be desired. The wait staff does not speak English, so they always mess up the timing of the order. The management is not very friendly - - bring back Calvin!
Great food! I'm not a sushi person but i ventured out of my comfort zone and was pleasantly suprised. I got a lobster tempura roll which was delicious and so was the fried rice! Great interior and ambiance - don't be fooled but the outside. Definitely worth the visit!
Delicious food, treated my boyfriend here for Valentine's Day and it was one of our first finer dining experiences together. We both agreed that the steak was the best we ever had (Melted in our mouths), along with the dessert (Creme brulee trio was perfect to split)! Only thing was we noticed we would have to flag down our waiter more than once, as they were chit chatting (It wasn't too busy that night). Beautiful ambience though, one of those places that you wouldn't notice from the outside; but once you step inside it's like a whole other world. Food was prepared very quickly!
Where do I start,
I used to frequent Fushimi at least a few times a year. Usually a good experience with good food and great ambiance.
This time around it everything was upside down.
First the waitress had to retake our order 3 times, she could not figure out what we wanted and kept coming back for clarification (we ordered from the menu, I am not exaggerating) and in the end they could not make a Tom Colins and my Gin and Tonics proportions were all off.
Second I ordered my steak done medium rare, in exchange I got well done shoe leather. (they did promptly correct that.)
Third (and this was the last proverbial straw), my coffee cup came out with bright pink lip stick stain on it. It was so well defined at first I thought it was part of the finish. That cup did not even see a dish washer between orders.
This was one of the worst experiences I have had eating out.
They tried to compensate with a round of free drinks and they took the desert of the bill, but who touches what left of the food when you find other people makeup on your cup.
I was hoping some one other than the very confused waitress would come out and apologize for repeated blunders, but all I got "so sorry" in broken English over and over again from confused waitress and bus boys. I was not belligerent, my wife even scolded me for not making a fuss over this. I even left the TIP in the value of the free Drinks that I got.
On this note, I am done.
If you value your time and money there are much better places to eat in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
We do not typically eat sushi or sashimi but we wanted something different so we tried Fushimi and we are glad we tried it. We ordered Udon with shrimp and scallops to share. Vegetables were crisps tender and scallops were done perfectly. We ordered a tuna 4 ways which was good but too much sashimi for me. And a mummy roll. Mummy roll was my favorite. Since we were determined to have everything we never tried I had a lychee martini and shared a matcha lava cake with matcha ice cream. The Fushimi coffee was delicious served in a brandy glass laced with walnut liquor and topped with whipped cream. I will definitely order again. All presentations were exquisite. Now that we have some experience we will be back to try different sushi and sashimi
My only criticism is the slow service. While everyone was pleasant and helpful, they were so slow. It was a little too long to order, time between courses and waiting for the check was ridiculous. C'mon guys it was so nice to pay through open table app like Gotham bar and grill.
I wish there was an option for zero stars. This place is awful! We made reservations in October for Thanksgiving. I called the restaurant directly to make sure they would be open and was told absolutely! Even received an email the day before confirming our reservation for the next day. Needless to say I was not happy when we pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant and the sign on the door stated they were closed. I ended up with my family at a diner for Thanksgivings...thank you Fishimi! Then when I called to talk to the restaurant about this disaster, the manager was rude beyond belief! He had no desire to make things right. If I were you I would definitely pick another place, if they treat their customers this way, I can't imagine how the treat their staff!
OpenTable on the other hand was very accommodating! I recommend always booking your reservations with them!
Used to be my favorite sushi spot years ago. It has slowly declined and is no longer what it used to be. Edamame took 15 mins to come out and it was cold and unsalted. The drinks were mediocre. Sushi was good but the servers were too busy joking around with each other to pay attention to us. My new favorite sushi spot is Ocean Sushi in Annadale - beats this place by a longshot. Food is super fresh and service is fantastic, unlike this place.
The food and service was top notch. The ambiance was nice but a tad noisy. The bar was well stocked and the drinks were made well by Laura our bartender who made us feel at home. Sushi and Sashimi was fresh and delicious. The cooked selecstions came out hot and fresh as well. An overall very nice experience.
The entrance is too dark having the restaurant appear as if was closed. We decided to wait for our friends at the bar before being seated at our table. The bartender asked us if we would like a drink, we looked at the drink list and he never returned. So we sat at our table. Our soups were way too spicy and I do like spicy but not that spicy. Our dinners were excellent.
Our friends agreed that the decor needs some rejuvenation. There was also an odor permeating the air from their party nights.
