Amazing food, great atmosphere. Make a reservation for it it is a small restaurant and can be a long wait.
We enjoyed our evening, food and service were outstanding.
The restaurant is a must visit when we are in the Glen Arbor area. We are never disappointed. From the appetizers to dessert everything is top notch.
The food and staff was excellent. The best kept local secret.
Love this place! Every time I vacation in the Glen Arbor area I am sure to reserve a table for dinner. Food is wonderful and the service is too. A lovely small, unassuming restaurant that hits it out of the park every time!
Delicious food and great service for any occasion! We reserve a table at Funistrada whenever we’re in the area.
Once again our meal was delightful. We like their daily specials board in addition to the already interesting menu! The restaurant is small (but quaint) so reservations are always needed!
It is very difficult to get into Funistrada during the summer months. I finally snagged a reservation for a weekend when I had house guests. The restaurant is lively and cozy. Our waitress was great. The food was fine~~but our experience did not justify the hype. Several of us had the heirloom tomato salad and that was wonderful. I ordered an angel hair pasta with chicken and sundried tomatoes. Once I ate the sparse amount of chicken I was left with a big bowl of plain pasta. My friend ordered a vegetarian pasta dish with Gorgonzola and she loved it. Two others ordered the veal piccata, which is a house specialty, and they were underwhelmed. The meat was tough. This is not a fine dining experience. It’s basic comfort food. But the higher entree prices are not justified.
Funistrada is our favorite restaurant in Glen Arbor. And we have a lot of company because they are always booked solid! Our advice is to book EARLY, and call the restaurant around 4:30 pm so you can speak to Holly before things start to rock and roll.
There are so many outstanding dishes it's hard to name them all- the Anniversary chicken, steak in any form from filet to Delmonico, incredible pasta dishes and delicious salads and appetizers!
Funistrada is a perfect choice for an intimate and fun evening out, birthday, holiday or anniversary. You'll love it!
Really a great spot. Well prepared dishes with fresh and varied ingredients. Would return in a heartbeat!
We had a great meal, perfect service, and all in all a wonderful evening.
It's hard to get reservations for obvious reasons. It is simply amazing in every regard.
Wonderfully attentive service - that slowed down our pace at our request. Outstanding, world class entees. Skip the Caesar (did they really put cherry tomatoes on there?). Overall: just superb.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Everything was cooked to perfection. The food is solid traditional Italian restaurant fare done well. We were also impressed with the wine list. They have a very thoughtfully curated list with an excellent selection on Italian wines. The service was warm and welcoming.
It was good but pricey. Was expecting a little better.
One of the great restaurants in the entire region. If you like really good authentic Italian food, this place is for you. The saltambucco is to die for!
The Veal Saltimboca... cooked GF.. was really bad.. sauce really dark and meat tough. There was some weird covering on the veal. Very very disappointed as a very expensive meal.
Our favorite in Leelanau County. Very busy even as the tourist season winds down. Fortunately they are open all year as many places are not. We have been there many, many times and will look forward to the next visit.
Great restaurant. I would recommend to anyone who wants a great Italian meal.
They never disappoint. The chicken saltimboca is the best I’ve ever had. My friend orders Salmon over pasta in Gorgonzola sauce. Wow. Incredible.
We have a summer cottage on nearby Glen Lake. We always make reservations ahead of time so we can be sure to have several wonderful date-night dinners there each summer. Our adult children feel the same way about Funistrada and usually manage to dine there too when they're in the area.
Great good! Beautiful setting
Wonderful food. Each year while vacationing we eat dinner at Funistrada and have never been disappointed.
The menu is Italian and extensive. Every day there are several specials too. My favorites are any of the Saltimbocca offerings and I have recently tried Salmon puttanesca which was wonderful. There are other puttanesca offerings that I haven't tried but will. I was so impressed with the puttanesca sauce that I've made it at home. The food here is fantastic. You will likely not be unhappy with 'any' of the offerings. The wine list is great and not terribly marked up. Reservations are 'essential' and in the summer months you will need to plan weeks in advance.
Great food and great service...could use a little help for wine recommendations.
Green salad was exceptional. Very fresh greens and lightly dresses with a wonderful dressing. The bread was also excellent. Veal saltimbuca was heavy and over complicated. Angel hair pasta with chicken was over sauced and mostly pasta. It was ok, but nothing special. Overall experience was nice but the food was on the average side. I would try again for sure.
Food was great, wine was great, service was great, room was charming! But please, please, please turn down the air-conditioning!
Delicious! I great little hidden gem! We have been coming to Glen Arbor for years and just discovered Funistrada- the food was outstanding. My husband had the eggplant Parmesan special, my son had spaghetti and meatballs and my daughter and I each chose a veal dish. We all enjoyed what we ordered. We will definitely be back again next year!!
Our dining experience was excellent. Great food with excellent and friendly service. If I have one concern it is sitting close to the A/C blasting cold air into my face. Next time, I'll make sure I request a table far away from the A/C.
We get to Glen Arbor area once a year. Funastrata is always on our to do list.
Always make restervations way in advance
Because they are always booked
Best food excellent service!
4 years in the making for us! So 4 years ago we stayed in Glen Arbor and made reservations for Funistrada only to have to cancel due to an emergency that forced us to cut our trip short and rush home. We always wondered what that evening would have been like had we not had our situation and all I can say is it was worth the wait. The food of course is awesome but hats off to the waitstaff because that just made the experience all that much better. Will be back soon and not 4 years later!
This was the choice for our 37 anniversary and what a great one it was. The wine was a generous pour, the house salad was very tasty and the main course on my part was the salmon which was huge. I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion if you can get in. FYI, plan ahead
Dinner at Funistrada is always really great. It’s a testimony to that excellence by the fact that it’s hard to get reservations. It’s worth doing it way in advance to insure you have this experience.
We have been enjoying the food, service, and staff since they opened 18 years ago. They never disappoint! Consistent and well-prepared meals served in a cozy, friendly, unpretentious environment. The price is reasonable for the high quality food. The staff is well-trained professionals that must be quite happy at Funistrada because they have very little turnover. Our favorites have always been the Veal Osso Bucco and the Lemon Artichoke Chicken with the Prosciutto-wrapped Asparagus appetizer. On July 20, 2018 we celebrated the 28th anniversary of our first date (same building but a different restaurant).
Great food! Nice atmosphere! One of the better restaurants in Glen Lake Area!
We're embarrassed to say that the two friends we were meeting didn't show up so we cost the place two seats but food and service were, as usual, swell. Don't hesitate to try the specials (though we for some reason never do.)
Awesome food and a great place to enjoy an evening out!
We’ve been here many times, and we enjoy the food. Sometimes they are willing to accommodate my special diet, and other times, they are not willing to prepare vegetables with marinara - this would be the only negative. Our guests were disappointed the salad did not “come with” the entree.
I've been hearing great things about Funistrada for several years and this was the first time we were able to get a reservation while we were in the area and it was for my husband's birthday. Unfortunately the food was only so-so, especially for the price. The saltimbocca had an extremely sharp flavour and the side of pasta was entirely without flavor. Portions were very generous so we could take home leftovers but we eat a lot of Italian food--in Italy and here in the US but the meal did not have that satisfying quality we associate with Italian cuisine. We shared a turtle pie for dessert on the recommendation of the server because they were out of the panna cotta we had requested and it was large but just sweet upon sweet--and the flavors and textures didn't meld or truly complement each other. Too much graham cracker with no nuance, too much chocolate, mushy pecans when they should have been crunchy, etc. It was not satisfying nor was it worth the price--even when sharing. A real disappointment because it did not live up to its reputation at all.
Best veal saltimbocca in the world. And the chocolate pecan goodness is outstanding. Enough said.
