The service was very slow — it took at least 15 minutes to get our drinks. But it was some of the bests sushi we have ever had!
Our food was incredible, but for putting that our reservation was for a special occasion (my husband's 40th birthday!), we were seated at a coffee table in the front of the restaurant and the table came below our knees! One of my friends is over 6'2", this was ridiculous. We were holding our plates in our hands to eat. The food was very good, the service was awkward and the seating was outright absurd. There were tables available in the back of the restaurant, and we were sitting at a couch and two ottomans without backs. We didn't even have a window to look out onto the Gaslamp night life. So very strange for such a nice and pricey place. This place was recommended and we chose it for our special occasion, but left feeling less than special since we were seated at the kids table in the corner! I don't care if it's chic, it was tacky, and how do you eat sushi seated like that? I would have rather sat on the floor.
Had a craving for sushi and this was the spot I chose. My husband and I love contemporary/modern vibes so the reviews sounded right up our alley. We loved it. Loved the mood, loved the food. Every sushi roll we tried was delicious. Made a reservation, and we were in and out in an hour. Would definitely go back. The only thing I’d say is that it wouldn’t be a great spot for a big party. It’s not a huge space and didn’t look like it could accommodate a big group.
Most amazing uni I have ever had! Sashimi cuts were really fresh, robata was delicious and rolls were also delicious. We also had top notch service!
The sushi wasn’t as great as previous reviews had led us to believe and it was very pricey for what we got.
Service was a bit slow, but the food was great ! Sake, beer and wine only ( so bar menu is limited) . Sushi was very fresh . I would go again !
WOW! Fantastic. Get the salmon tartare and be sure to order sashimi/nigiri off specialty fish menu. Relaxing comfortable setting, great service and fantastic sushi!!!!
I thought the food was very good but the service was lacking in that the two of us who ordered Sushi received and had consumed 5 different orders BEFORE our other three guests ever received the Salmon dinners they ordered. NOT COOL! Serve all together unless it is an appetizer - and, bring a complimentary item if the kitchen or server screws up on ordering properly so that items can be plated at the same time.
FABULOUS sushi and the peach saki was also tasty!
We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time but the staff kept us informed of the delay and even gave us a complimentary appetizer. The rotating fresh sushi menu was very good and the sushi rice was seasoned well.
Excellent sushi and very good service. Expensive but worth it
Thank you for making my son’s birthday dinner special! We will be back!
Loved the presentation, good service, and ambience.
We came to Full Moon before a Friday Night show at Broadway San Diego. We sat at the sushi bar (our preference) and were treated to a wonderful dinner of sushi. Luckily it was sockeye salmon season, and our sockeye nigiri was killer. The thin sliced blue fin tuna on ice with build your own component (thin sliced Serrano peppers, wasabi based spread, micro greens etc was superb. The Blue Moon roll was rock solid too! Definitely recommend this place, and it’s only a few blocks to the Civic Center theater on 3rd!
My Husband and I loved, loved, LOVED their specialty rolls! We were looking for something refreshing for dinner, and Full Moon hit the spot! The ambiance was great - we called ahead of time to request a table for 2, since we noticed they offered lounge/bar seating as well, bit we wanted a bit more privacy. Our server was really helpful, and all of our dishes came out in great time! Definitely will be recommending to friends/family, and returning in the near future!
Kevin is the best sushi chef. We appreciate his creative sashimi arrangements. This is the best sushi/sashimi in San Diego!
Thank you for such a high quality sashimi and for Kevin’s
well thought and artfully crafted sashimi preparation.
Amazing food. We had the "set menu" sushi special that they're apparently known for and it was phenomenal. This is definitely expensive for sushi, but worth it. The dessert - mochi - was great! I love when places serve that. It's my favorite Japanese dessert. The staff were all so friendly, and not at all pretentious (even though they probably have every right to be with the high quality sushi they're serving!) I really appreciated that our server didn't pressure us to order more than we could handle and let us take our time in deciding and ordering more food later on. Can't wait to be back in San Diego to eat here again!
What a fantastic restaurant! The menu was huge and everything sounded so delicious. We were really impressed with the creativity in the rolls and the presentation of every dish was impeccable. We could t have been happier with everything we ordered as each meal was unique and delicious. Phenomenal sake list. We can’t wait to visit again!
Service was on point. Food was great. Exotic menu and skewers are where it’s at!!
Woo! You shouldn’t make people lengthen their reviews!
Sushi is very fresh!
Amazing sushi with a beautiful presentation. Just loved this place. If you’re looking for sushi in the Gaslamp District this is the place to head. I will be returning for more in the near future!
Really good, high quality sashimi. The rolls we had were good, not fantastic. There's no full bar, but the drinks we had were very good. We were not disappointed, but not overly impressed. We'd come here again if just getting sashimi.
Way overpriced sushi that was just okay. I've had so much better for half of the price at many other sushi establishments. The seasoning they put on the rolls overpowers the beautiful flavors of the fish. The ambiance was nice but that was all it had going for them. It was my Birthday dinner and I was so disappointed. We left hungry and preferred our appetizers we had at the comedy show.
Awkward seating arrangements (either low tables with mismatched seating heights or small tables with high stools), meh atmosphere. Prices high, but food very good and service friendly.
Great service. Christina was extremely knowledgeable, helped us make informed choices, and made sure that our meal was well paced. The food itself was incredible. It was beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. The exotic fish selections were particularly interesting.
The hostess, Erin, was very nice. They accommodated us even though we were 30 minutes late. The food was really very good and the menu had interesting creations as well as classics. Ample selection of sake. Good service. It was not a quiet setting but we were able to converse normally. A good finding.
Full moon roll was so good for Japanese too!
Food is fantastic although pricey. Definitely would recommend sitting at the bar.
Great place for sushi, and if you’re tagging along with friends not into seafood try the duck confit, it was excellent! Restaurant fills up fast, especially during happy hour.
Specialty roll was really good, regular rolls were just ok. Shishito peppers lacked flavor.
The best sushi I’ve ever had. The menu has a lot of variety, and the rolls were absolutely delicious. I recommend the Eclipse roll with truffle oil - best roll I’ve ever tasted!!! The service was unbelievable also and the location was unbeatable. Highly recommend!
Introducing 19 year olds to sushi. They loved it. Great service too.
AMAZING!!! OUR PARTY OF 6 IN TOTAL AGREEMENT!! CAN’T WAIT TO RETURN!!
Food was good but way to expensive. There are much nicer places you can go to and get a better deal than paying $20 for three little pieces.
Exceptional sushi and friendly service.
Amazing!!!! Best sushi in San Diego:)
For the Gaslamp Quarter, it’s one of the better sushi places I have visited. Portions are on the smaller side. Rolls were tasty and the fish tasted fresh. The steamed clams were just ok. The restaurant was a bit too dark for my taste. When it comes to sushi, I like to see if the fish and the rolls look fresh.
Service was just ok. We made reservations for a table instead of the lounge area, we were given a high top table. We saw several regular tables and asked for one of those instead (because 2/3 of us are short), she said she couldn’t accommodate. We were a bit disappointed because she didn’t give us a reason why she could sit us at the low tables. Also, we found out if we mistakenly asked for anything food or drink wise from the busboy, he wouldn’t just relay it to our server but made us wait to put in the order directly with our server.
