FuGaKyu Japanese Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
We come to FuGaKyu quite a bit and the last few times the service has been really lacking. We are always pleased with the food however we felt this last time that the food was not as fresh. Also, the video playing on the big screens were absolutely gross to watch while eating dinner. Please change that! Spiders, bulls fighting...not exactly what you want to watch while trying to enjoy a meal. No hot towels were given to us and our sever was not very friendly. Plates were dirty and overall we feel like the quality has gone down quite a bit. We will try it again and hope for a better experience but not impressed with the last few times we have been in.
As part of the reservation, I requested to be seated in a booth on the first floor (since it was a special occasion). The restaurant completely ignored this and took us all the way up to the third floor to a room that was very hot with outdated decor and horrible piped in music playing with the speaker right above our table. It was disappointing to say the least and put a damper on the entire dinner. Food was good...not great.
I'm pretty salty after getting a bad table (tucked away in a corner away from all the fun). I wrote birthday on my request here and I guess it didn't matter. This restaurant's food is ok and not worth the price premium. The restaurant's main selling point is the atmosphere, but we didn't get to enjoy it.
This was our first time here for dinner. There were 6 of us on a triple date and we were seated in a booth that had paper screen doors that closed to give us privacy. It made for a super private evening for our group. Great service and the sushi was delicious. It was easy to get a reservation and even though we were 20 minutes late, they held our table with no problem. We will definitely be back!
I absolutely love the food and like to sit downstairs. This time we were in the upstairs back room which felt random and we felt forgotten about at times. There was also a large TV on mute showing a strange video about cooking Japanese food, which was distracting and took away from the feel of an upscale restaurant. I have been coming here for 10 years as it's the best sushi, but try to sit in the main part of the restaurant!
There were several empty private small rooms when we arrived. We did have a reservation.
When I asked to be seated in one, we were told that they were all booked. For the entire two hours we were there, no one sat in any of them. Instead we were put at a small table right near the entrance, not great. I think it is just easier for them to put you at tables. Hostess had an attitude on top of it. Food wasn't bad, but very expensive for what it was. I will not return.
Had an excellent meal here Sunday evening. Jeffrey, who has been working at Fugakyu for ten years, has been promoted to the sushi station once occupied by the famous chef Hiro (who we followed for dozens of years). Jeffrey now has the freedom to be more creative and he surprised us with some amazing rolls (taste and texture, see photos) and two beautifully crafted chiracshi. This was the first time we experienced his creativity. We will definitely ask him to prepare our meals when we go to Fugaku again (which is quite often). Brandon was a very attentive server.
This is was such a fun and wonderful experience. The food was outstanding and the ambience was so nice! We had our own room, which was so nice and private for our anniversary. They gave us a beautiful tiramisu with "Happy Anniversary" written in strawberry sauce. It was delicious and so very nice.
Wonderful restaurant with an extensive selection for sushi lovers and not only. Rose wine just excellent on a hot summer day. Low points for the noise level - not as much the restaurants fault - there was a table full of teens screaming on top of their lungs - but I guess the restaurant could ask people to tone it down in such cases. Highly recommend otherwise - just take choose the seats wisely :)
Have been here numerous times without incident. This past time was different. A "mule" mixed drink was watery and if it had vodka, it was very little. A 2nd glass of wine requested during the meal arrived after the meal was finished (20 minutes or so). A salad ordered at the beginning arrived after everyone was finished. If this poor service happens again may discontinue coming... too bad.
I would not recommend this restaurant in Brookline to any one . Hostess was extremely unfriendly did not even acknowledge our family of four with children, we said thank and she did not look at us . We are seated infront and I requested to be seated in back she said they are all full and I noticed all 80% tables empty . I would grade food as 1star . U want good sushi go somewhere else .
The place was empty. My husband and I were seated at the only table outside one of the dining rooms. We asked to be seated somewhere different and the host took us to an empty dining room. We asked if we could be seated in a dining room with people. So he obliged and we sat down. We were dressed nice if not nicer than most of the people there. It was the oddest thing. Our waitress was attentive and the food was good but the whole seating thing left a bad taste in my mouth.
