Our server was fantastic. I can’t remember her name but we were a party of eight in a special room. The food was fantastic as always.

Our "fried" food had been fried hours ago and kept warm
The breading had gotten so soggy in the interim that it fell off
the scallops had almost no flavor either, surprising in a restaurants that touts its fresh fish
still thelittle japense botths are cute and the service was effcient

For a pretty expensive restaurant, the food is very blah. The last two times I've eaten here, my salmon has been dry and cold. Overall, it's a very overrated restaurant, and you can get much better fish for far better value at a bunch of other places.

Good place for friends getting together. They have $$ dollar signs but actually is of great value considering the big portion size. Four of us each had a lunch special, and ordered a sukiyaki, a tiger roll and shrimp stick app for share, but none of us were able to finish. The portion is HUGE trust me. The sashimi fish is not the best that I had, and the flavor for the entrees leans more towards the sweet side (yeah American Japanese food), but the overall the quality is good given the price.

Fabulous food - their sushi is terrific, the specials always interesting and delicious. The staff consistently friendly and professional.

Worst sushi I can recall. After booking several weeks in advance, we were assigned a table in the corridor right next to the shoes of other (apparently, more prominent) guests who had the privilege of a private room. The food was mediocre (to be generous). The wine choice was pathetic, and they not even had the wines listed. The quality of what we were served (as an Italian and a Spaniard we have some enologic culture) was appalling. The service was careless and totally unresponsive to our protests. It is the first time ever I refuse to tip. I was surprised because I had been in Boston some years ago, and this was a goog place. Then, I learned the management has changed. I’ll be surprised if the current arrangement is sustainable, so there is a hope that the management will change again. In short, my experience could not have been more negative.

Very quaint. Loved the idea of the curtains and the semi-private dining space. The food, including the sushi was delicious and well-priced. The mochi ice cream was the perfect sweet treat at the end of our meal. The service was timely and overall great. Will definitely come back.

When you first walk in, the restaurant is HUGE! They have a cute little koi pond at the entrance and the whole restaurant has three floors. I have to agree with other reviews when they say the quality is not as good as Oishi. When you order spicy tuna rolls, for example, they fill the rolls with a mashed up mix of spicy mayo, a little fish, and a lot of panko breadcrumbs. I asked the waiter about why they do this and she said it is the default unless you ask to have the actual piece of fish in the sushi. Overall, I would not come back to this place just for sushi.

Overall great. I think our location made it less likely for the waiter to stop by so water wasn’t refilled enough, but otherwise no issues. Wonderful food as always.

The food is tremendous. The staff is pleasant. I was expecting a bit snobby but was completely mistaken. Our waitress made some excellent recommendations from their huge menu based on what we were ordering. We will be back.

Another great dinner and experience at Fugakuu. The quality of the sushi is second to none. The sushi rolls are stuffed with contents and no fillers. Other places put fillers into the roll to reduce the amount of sushi. Not at Fugakyu.

Visiting from out of town. Nice overall experience but have experienced much better elsewhere. Waitress was rather unpleasant, food mediocre, costs were high. Nice place though and love the individual rooms.

You can make reservations.

There are two floors in the restaurant.

If you are a table of 2, you share a small room thing with another table of 2.

They have good sushi.

They have Sapporo.

Service might be slow if very busy.

It was a beautiful place and the service was impeccable. The food was really good too. The only thing was if you were seated in the upper floors, you had to go up a lot of flights of stairs. But upstairs is a little quieter then downstairs, so it was worth the climb.

Fugakyu, along with Symphony Sushi, is one of my favorite sushi places. Great food, fresh and nicely prepared. Consistently good--I think I have been there 25 times and it has always been terrific.

We had a very nice meal, and the third floor dining area was comfortable with a low noise level. Our server was attentive and friendly. We all were impressed by the quality of the food. Overall it was a very enjoyable outing, except for the price, which was a bit of a shock. I should have done the math as we ordered, but since only one of the four of us had wine, I didn't. To be fair, we had dessert, so that added to it, and it wasn't crazy expensive, just more than I had expected. Next time we'll skip dessert.

We took our two children, aged 9 and 11, to Fugakyu following an afternoon at the theater/ballet. We had come as a family once before, and we all loved it. This time was no surprise: the food was excellent and the ambiance great (we requested and obtained a private booth). Quality was superb, and quantity was more than adequate. It was 20 degrees outside, so we enjoyed the warm ambiance, and the hot food when presented. A great meal all around. We are now inviting our friends to come to Fugakyu with us, to reserve one of the upstairs tables for groups: what a blast!

absolutely terrible service - i had made a reservation at least a week in advance and even showed up early for a table for two. the manager/owner (whoever he is) didn't even apologize for the delay - we ended up waiting about half an hour while other "walk-ins" with larger parties got seated before us. I understand that those tables will get you more profit simply due to the number of people, but make sure you honor reservations if you offer reservations in the first place. very disappointed and we will not be returning.

I have liked Fugakyu for years. I always order the unami, but the Sudbury restaurant does a better job. It is fatty--or something that makes it less appealing than the same dish in Sudbury. Other than that, it is an enjoyable experience: quiet, calm, pleasant surroundings, good service.

This restaurant was generally hailed as the best Japanese restaurant in Boston, and a must have experience, however we were less than impressed by the price of the meal and the overall quality. We tried some of the cocktails listed on the menu, but they were less than impressive. I don't think we'll be visiting again. We went to Osaka Steakhouse in Brookline and had a much better time, for significantly less than we paid here.
