This was our first dinner here after many visits for breakfast and lunch. The food was outstanding. Nice choices whether you wanted seafood, meat, or vegetarian. The food was presented beautifully on the plates, good serving sizes, and tasted delicious. Decent wine choices at fair prices.
My only complaint is the decor for dinner. Even just dimming the industrial lighting would have made the room warmer and more welcoming. Some nice music playing would have added a lot to the ambiance as well, since we were the only ones in the backroom where every chair scrape or raised voice echos.
Picked this restaurant because I saw other good reviews and wanted to try some where new. We arrived on a snowy Thursday night and were the only people. Our host, waiter , bus person was Shem ~ great food suggestions and with the restaurant being empty we enjoyed talking with him. The food was great ~ we tried several different things and all were good. Looking forward to going again to try some new things ~ a bit of an odd location, but plenty of parking and worth looking for.
We LOVED our food, delicious, hot and creative!
Bravo to the Chef!
My only suggestion is the lighting should be “ dimmed” for evening dinner time, it felt like a Cafeteria with the bright lights!
It was quiet and the food was good - well presented. However, the ambiance was lacking. I wouldn't go there for a romantic 1:1 but for a very casual, with pretty good food meet up with friends it works just fine. We had a great waitress though so 5 stars there!
Great local restaurant
Fuel is consistently delicious. We don't go often enough but that will change. Our dining experience was wonderful, from sit down to dessert. We enjoyed the fresh fish, slow roasted ribs and risotto. The staff is attentive and menu has seasonal items, often presented with a unique twist yet always delightful.
I think Fuel breakfast is unsurpassed so I decided to try it for dinner. I was disappointed! We had pumpkin ravioli which was SWIMMING in oil. It really wasn't good. The salad was good, I thought, but my friend said the dressing had little taste. We had a wedge of lettuce with a few cranberries and nuts on top (very few).
Very eclectic menu and quite fresh salad and creative chicken. Only one brand of beer. No cocktails
Had to eat outdoors in the dark because the restaurant was too hot inside.Could not see what we were eating nor could we see the menus w/o using our phones. Noisy with the trains going by very close to the restaurant.
Fuel (food you eat locally (I think)), is a small and somewhat upscale neighborhood restaurant with a limited but fresh menu of seasonally available ingredients. We ate outside on a lovely late summer evening. Service was attentive. Food was delicious and nicely presented.
Nice dinner outside
Finally tried Fuel. The food was amazing and the owner was so nice as he kept coming by to make sure we were happy. We will definitely be back, this time bringing our friends. Just wish they could spruce up the inside a little, but honestly the food makes up for it.
They did not have items shown on their menu
Very disappointing as a dinner venue. The space was so warm it was uncomfortable. Table service was chaotic. VERY limited drink options. They're great for breakfast and lunch but not great for dinner. Farm to table is a great concept but the food was average in flavor.
Dirty walked out. Did not have open table reservation
Excellent dinner outside, with superb food and service. We brought friends who were very impressed as well.
When we got there and the place was empty. My husband got the short rib risotto and it was ok. I had the halibut. It would have been great if it wasnt so salty. The sons pasta dish was delicious but that was a kids plate. On a positive side you can tell the freshness is there.
The food here is always excellent. The calarmari appetizer, chicken enchiladas, and crabcakes were all delicious and fairly priced. Staff is welcoming.
Food was great, staff very accommodating, nice outdoor seating if you like that. Inside decor a bit sparse, but clean and well kept. It seems they do a nice seasonal menu because some of the specials were going to be moved to the seasonal menu so I guess they were trying them out. The salmon was delicious. Super selection of salads. We had the blue cheese and it eas plenty to share. We will be back.
Really enjoyed the food
Great food and service.
Fantastic food and service. We will be back.
Well, we knew it was a little odd when we walked into an "upscale" restaurant at 6:30 on a Friday night, and we were the only ones there. That's right, there were 2 servers, 2 cooks and the 2 of us... that was it!
The decor felt as if we were in an IKEA showroom. It was trendy looking, but very cheap feeling. Not bad, but not what we were looking for in an upscale establishment. The menu was a onexpage affair, on oversized paper. Again, very cool look for a trendy place, but the menus were all crumpled up and had food and drink stains on them. There was a pretty small wine selection and ONE beer choice (which they were out of).
The servers (who were both new, one was on her first day there) were excellent. Very attentive, friendly and polite. But again, we were the ONLY customers. They were out of one of the specials, and one of the appetizers. We only stuck around for appetizers, cause it was getting a little awkward being the only ones there, and we didn't want to see what else they were out of. The food was ok, but a little sub par for a trendy place.
We might go back in the future, but will wait a bit so they can restock, update (and replace) the menu, bring in a couple beer options, and actually have them at the restaurant.
Excellent food. Simple decor. Quiet and perfect for catching up with friends.
We'll definitely be going back.
I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Very small space...not very cozy or warm. All the food is locally sourced and for the most part it was good. My husband's pork chop was way over cooked and my girlfriend and I ordered Opa (a fish) and they too were over cooked. The restaurant replaced my husband's pork chop no questions asked and it was perfect. The price of our meal was high for the taste and ambience of the place.
One of my favorite places to dine!!!! Excellent service , excellent food1
Pleasant small space near Wilmettte Metra Station. Ordered Arctic Char which was perfectly prepared as well as a light and tasty chicken pot pie. Very friendly, attentive and appreciative staff. Excellent value for the money as well. Will be back.
While it is a bit difficult to find (attached to a carwash) and looks unassuming from the outside, once there the food is unexpectedly excellent. We had two large appetizers (salad and pasta) and two entrees, which was one dish too many. It is a small restaurant with a modest sized regular menu, but don't overlook the daily specials on the blackboard. The restaurant was only half filled for dinner, but we understand that brunch there is very popular.
Great little place
The ambiance isn't great if you want a sophisticated dining experience but the food was terrific. Hard plastic chairs and bright white/stark storefront setting makes it feel like a sandwhich/pizza joint as you first enter. Of course once inside you see the plastic feel is contrasted with the linen table linen along with the formal place settings. It's a bit confusing in terms of what they are trying to say to their customers as they walk in for the first time. 4 tops make up the bulk of the seating.
The food was terrific. Pumpkin ravioli and crab cake appetizers had 5 star plating and were delicious. The Salmon was recommend and also didn't disappoint. A strong endorsement on the food. Would came back in an instant given the right occasion.
I would say if you are looking for a casual dining experience and aren't interested in a romantic or sophisticated ambiance this is a great neighborhood gem.
Nice spot for a good meal and conversation.
Outstanding meal from start to finish. Unassuming interior with gourmet meals. The service was excellent as well. This one is a keeper.
This is a hidden gem, and I mean hidden. I live less than 2 miles away and didn't know its been open for 7 years. Had a great meal. Very fresh. Very good dervice. Decor is rather sparse but food and service definately make up for lack high end furnishings. They should consider BYOB with less than a $20 corkage fee.
We like Fuel's convenient access (my wife is in a wheelchair), but it really shines when you enter the door. The staff is very accommodating and anticipates your needs before having to ask. The decor is simple, bordering on boring, but that lets one focus more on the delicious menu and the well prepared dishes. The food is excellent, locally sourced and impeccably prepared. I recommend Fuel to friends without reservations ( no pun intended)!
Always a fantastic meal. Fuel has been consistent since it opened. Very glad they decided to offer dinner Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
First time going for dinner which is only offered on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Lots of options and great food. Would go back again. Owner was very friendly and told us the story of creating the reasturant. Organic and local.
Had a very nice pumpkin ravioli dish with a grilled romaine caesar salad - both were excellent.
Beef bourgignon was good but a bit on the less creative side compared to the other dishes.
Very creative food prep but decoration and ambience doesn't match the food.
The food was creative. The best. Effie's I ever tasted! Bread was to die for. Attentive service. It not overbearing!
