Froggy's Ratings and Reviews
We first ate at Froggy's several years ago when it was a relatively new restaurant. At that time, it was known for having very good French food for very reasonable prices. Unfortunately, it has now become a restaurant with, at best, average food for high prices. Our waitress was quite good. She was attentive and knowledgeable. I only wish the quality of the food was equal to her service. The mushroom appetizer was quite bland. The mussels were prepared well in a nice sauce. My wife had beef wellington. It was so bland that, other than texture, it was hard to distinguish the crust from the beef. I ordered the Chef's Creation which consisted of rabbit in a berry liqueur sauce, veal in a crust and pheasant wellington. The rabbit was quite good. The pheasant wellington was very very bland. As for the veal, it was extremely salty. Our desserts (creme brulee and a mousse with berries) were both good. Unfortunately, given the low quality of the food and the high price, we will not return.
I had not been back in many years, but I was meeting a friend for lunch who lives nearby. I thought the menu choices and service were excellent. The food was really great! I was there for lunch so the cafe was perfect on a sunny winter day. The back dining room is perfect for dinner. It was well-worth the drive from Chicago to have a great experience!
We always enjoy going to Froggy's. We prefer sitting in the front room. Service is always great and more often than not, the owner/chef Thierry stops by. This time, Thierry heard that our son, age 9, who accompanied us to dinner was a soccer player and avid follower. The staff later brought him a soccer bag ornament with soccer balls and an Eiffel Tower!
Wine list is not exhaustive, but very good and even more, modestly priced. Appetizers, both the regular ones and especially the specials are top notch. Dinner specials are particularly good. Nice to be able to get great service, very good food and wine at a very reasonable price.
Fabulous restaurant to treat a friend to a memorable lunch. We had a seafood entree that was not only beautifully presented, but was absolutely delicious. There are monthly and daily special options that always wonderful. Of course, these include the soups that Froggy's is known for. My friend felt very special on her birthday. Whenever I want to celebrate a special occasion, this is the first place I think of.
We had a wonderful time being back to Froggys with our family. We have always enjoyed
ordering the Gourmet Menu and trying various courses to create a special dinner. Froggy's always presents a beautiful plate with a lot of attention to detail. There are many long time employees that provide wonderful and friendly service. I especially like the front room by the fireplace but the entire restaurant is warm and inviting.
A disappointing visit. When we asked about the special menu, the waiter said "Oh you want the cheap menu!". When he returned, he said the specials were a cassoulet, a fish item and steak poivre. Two of us had the cassoulet. So, so. One had the fish. OK. One the steak poivre. Very good. Desserts were pudding and crème brulee. Both desserts were very good. As for service, I had to ask for more hot water for my tea three different times. When we asked for the bill, each couple was given a small bit of paper with a number handwritten thereon. The number seemed high on my bill so I requested an itemized bill. I received another handwritten bill with a number much less than the original number. When the bill was aid by credit card, I was finally provided with a printed bill. As a customer of Froggy's since the 1980"s, I was most disappointed this time.
Authentic French cuisine, authentic French atmosphere, brilliant chef, great wines, superb ambience, warm-hearted and attentive service, perfect for any sort of lunch from casual to business, splendid for special occasions (this was a birthday date), easy valet parking at night (street parking convenient at lunch), always a great experience.
I have been going to Froggy's for many years. The food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful whether you are seated in the garden-like bar area or the elegant dining room. Prices are very fair for what you get. The serving staff is warm and friendly. The soup is wonderful and there is creme brulee for dessert.
Chef Lefeuvre is amazing! He came out and visited with each table. The heirloom tomato with proscuitto appetizer was absolutely amazing along with the seafood special with baramundi and scrod. Even the season vegetables were delicious. The wine list was fantastic and the hazelnut mousse dessert was well worth the calories. We will definitely be coming back AND bringing friends.
