  • Local Ingredients
Since 1986 Friend of a Farmer has been a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement. We’ve created a reputation for seasonally fresh and local ingredients within an atmosphere unlike anything else in New York City.

To provide our guests with a warm familiar feeling found only in the countryside, we’ve carefully crafted and hand built all of the wooden columns, ceilings, floors, and fireplaces.

Our specialty cocktails and homemade juices are all pressed at the farm. The seasonal ingredients, homemade syrups, infused liquors and balanced pours blend beautifully to create a unique and delicious finish.

Our wines are carefully selected and primarily focused around the boutique, family owned vineyards, many of which are sustainable and bio-dynamic.

Thirty later and Friend of a Farmer still remains a family owned business that has stayed true to its roots and concept.

40 minutes to sit with reservation. Most of the menu was sold out. It was really frustrating.

We had a great lunch. Delicious cheese plate, and the chicken on the club sandwich was perfectly prepared. Get wait staff aa well. We got to sit in the front table downstairs overlooking the street and it was perfect.

We went there for an anniversary. Although not planned, the entire staff sang to the Bday lady with a desert and Bday candle. So very spontaneous and social.

We are Dutch and they took the time to give us advise on where to go and what to visit. Due to the staff we ended up visiting a NY Yankees match. Wunderfull.

The food was excellent. Well balanced, healthy, displayed on the plate with a care.
We loved it and will come back in August!

8 minute wait before water served- a night of half capacity. Drink orders and an app nearly forgotten. Food ok.

THE NOISIEST RESTAURANT WE HAVE BEEN IN IN A VERY, VERY, LONG TIME!!

Charming decor—Meh food (in the future, I will know what Open Table means by comfort food)—Pricey wine list—Creative cocktails—Outstanding service. HORRIBLY NOISY!

It is a very cute place with a nice ambiance. The menu has a lot of old-fashioned, grandma-style items. While everything was good, the expectation for a place like this is that it will execute these dishes in an outstanding and surprising way... but at least what we had didn't quite match that expectation. It was all fine and tasty and I wouldn't complain about it, but in a place like New York, given the kinds of choices you have, I don't think I'd go back here.

I have been to Friend of a Farmer numerous times, mostly for brunch, but I have been previously for dinner. The food is usually good with average service but our dinner Friday was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a NYC restaurant and I am planning on reporting a NYC Health Code violation.

As an entrée I ordered the burger ($18) and asked that it be cooked well-done. My burger arrived, and after taking a few bites, I realized that it was cooked medium-rare, which I pointed out to our waiter. He recognized right away that it hadn’t been cooked appropriately and took my plate away. After about 10-15 minutes, at which point my husband had finished his meal, I was served a new burger. However, I realized that instead of cooking a new burger to the appropriate temperature, the kitchen had taken my partially eaten burger and put it back on the grill (presumably with other food), and then re-served it to me on a new bun. The manager came by and I pointed this out to him, and how it likely wasn’t sanitary, and he told me that was normal procedure and had they not re-cooked my original burger, I would have had to wait for 30 minutes. He was rather rude and did not comp the burger or any other part of our meal.

Needless to say, we won’t be returning to Friend of a Farmer, and I am planning on reporting this as a violation of the NYC Health Code (Section 81.07(l), Re-service of previously served food prohibited).

An OK breakfast spot, a lot of hype but nothing spectacular. Decent food portions but overpriced! Regular coffee is terrible, sour and the restaurant charges you $11 for a very small coffee pot (barely 2 small cups) that doesn't get refilled unless you pay another $11. We ended up paying $22 for coffee for 2 people! I think I never paid this much for the most expensive coffee at an expensive 5 star hotel. Also, none of the omelettes comes with a toast or any type of bread. You have to order that separately. and then it doesn't come with butter?? only a very small - about 2 teaspoons of some kind of a homemade jam. The space is super small and they got us seated next to the kitchen where the noise level from removing/loading/unloading dishes was really bad.
Overall we had an OK breakfast (not outstanding or memorable by any means!) , paid $120 ($100 plus tip) and felt disappointed. For comparison, a family of 4 we had an amazing dinner at an upscale Indian place in the village, paid $120 (including wine!).

It’s just the perfect place to have a special gathering or to go sit your loved one for a bite. It’s so cozy and warm. The food is delicious and service is excellent. I enjoyed my dinner next to the fireplace upstairs. They even have a sweet bar to have a drink.

This restaurant has been on my list for months. It offers tasty bites and a calming dining experience with true candle light at the table. Upon entering, you’re met with what appears to be a bakery with a list of breads for purchase, which I had not expected. We were led upstairs to the dining room. I had the salmon and my friend had the Park Dinner Salad, both great options. While there is nothing remarkable about the restaurant, the service was lovely, we could hear ourselves speak, the drinks were good, and the food was prepared well.

This was a celebration dinner for us - and we weren't disappointed! Every plate was incredibly good! Grilled octopus for an appetizer - the venison, diver scallops, filet and short ribs as entree's - Sancere for the dinner wine - we were beyond impressed. The service was impeccable - ambiance wonderful. We'll be back! And we'll suggest to friends !

Service was terrible. Waiters continued to bump into us. Finally, they moved our table a bit so that the waiters didn’t bump into us while serving other tables.
Food was mediocre. Nothing great. Brunch is better. Won’t come back for dinner.
Noise level was horrible. Way too many people / too crowded overall.
The overall ambiance was frenetic.

Our disappointing evening began when we were led to a small table overlooking a sad piece of wallpaper. One chair was broken. It was exchanged with one from another table, not taken out of circulation. It didn't matter since even an intact chair wobbled around every time someone walked by, which was often.

For our first course, we shared a $15 salad which had sounded delicious. Ingredients included a single apple slice carefully carved into six pieces, what appeared to be one or two beets cubed, and a tiny chunk of blue cheese that must have been blasted with an atom smasher order for it to be sprinkled around the entire side of the plate. Our entrees had so much garlic and salt in them the dishes could have been farm to table or fresh from the freezer.

The one bright spot was our waiter, who couldn't have been nicer or more cautious about food allergies. I'm only sorry he doesn't work in a better restaurant.

Very charming venue, relaxed atmosphere. Attentive service. None of that compares with the absolutely unbelievably amazing food. Don’t leave this place without trying the crostini appetizer. We also had the Parmesan shrimp which was really great, and the duck- fantastic- and the shepherds pie- to die for.

I was a fan of the one in Roslyn which closed a while ago and I was reminded why I liked it so much. The harvest crostini is something you’ll look forward to having again really soon, amazing. Our entrees were all great too. Excellent dinner in a nice atmosphere.

In a sea of ultra-modern restaurants, Friend of a Farmer is cozy (and not in that "cozy = small" sense) and warm. The exposed wood is fantastic and, just, in general, the atmosphere is mad romantic. The staff is helpful, friendly, and competent and the food is absolutely delicious. While everything was very good, the crab cakes were a stand-out in terms of how severely they outperform most others. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is accenting fantastically by the kitchen, which does a great job while not overdoing anything. All-in-all a fab place for a special occasion. I hear brunch is great, too, though it sounds like a absurdly busy.

We waited for our dinners for at least 45 minutes after our salad was eaten . Our server came back to say your dinners will be out soon, 5 minutes before they came out. They missed our side order and brought that when our dinners were 80% eaten- 15 -20 minutes later. He put it on the table with no apologies and I told him to take it back , we were nearly done. Probably took it back to the kitchen and threw it out.
I still don’t think our bill was correct. $200 for 1 salad, 3 entrees and drinks. Lots of drink tho bc we waited so long
A real disappointment. We’ve been to the Brooklyn location snd service was great. Oh and the busers. Stood and starred at us our entire time there.

Surprised and disappointed that with a 7:30pm reservation on a Saturday evening FofF were out of THREE primary entrees - braised beef, duck and crab cakes. This should not happen at such a great restaurant.
