Friend of a Farmer
To provide our guests with a warm familiar feeling found only in the countryside, we’ve carefully crafted and hand built all of the wooden columns, ceilings, floors, and fireplaces.
Our specialty cocktails and homemade juices are all pressed at the farm. The seasonal ingredients, homemade syrups, infused liquors and balanced pours blend beautifully to create a unique and delicious finish.
Our wines are carefully selected and primarily focused around the boutique, family owned vineyards, many of which are sustainable and bio-dynamic.
Thirty later and Friend of a Farmer still remains a family owned business that has stayed true to its roots and concept.
Everything was excellent. We were so pleased with our entire experience.
I love this place for awesome brunch. Decided to do dinner. Amazing food and please, please don’t miss out on the apple pie!
Amazing food. Breakfast was unbelievably good.
Our food (burgers; shepherd's pie) was outstanding!
They opened a large window on the 2nd floor and it was a bit too cold.
Lovely afternoon lunch spot. Quiet sunny spot on Irving.
I invited my friends from out of town to eat at Friend of a Farmer. When we were waiting for our food, we saw a mouse. I asked the staff to move us to another room. They were very nice. However, our bill was still $250, they gave us desert for free. This is a health hazard and I expected more from this restaurant because I go often. Won't be returning.
Amazing food, amazing location, amazing service.
We had a lovely breakfast at this restaurant and were so impressed with the friendliness of the staff, particularly our waiter (whose name we didn’t catch but he was keen to have a chat about the upcoming football scores)! The blueberry pancakes were so light & fluffy and loved the location. Super central but off the main avenues, making it nice & quiet. Could have sat outside all day watching the world go by. Highly recommended!
This restaurant used to be good. The last two times we had early dinner, service was awful and the food was slow to be served and then cold and overcooked. Waiters have little experience. On the last occasion, the waiter poured the seltzer water all over my wife's legs and did not even apologize. The bread had to be sent back since it was not fresh and the cauliflower took over 45 minutes to arrive- then it was undercooked. Everything was pretty much underwhelming. Perhaps they need to train the staff.
Great restaurant and very unique dining experience in New York. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere and solid food.
Server well informed
Charming neighborhood cafe with a very good breakfast menu and delicious food. The seating, though was very tight and the top floor back room was undesirable (even winding around tight quarters to get to it) not to mention a scary fire trap if one should happen. The kitchen stations were minuscule- somehow though the staff created great food and managed the chaos sufficiently. Top floor is not desirable for seniors.
May have truly been the best meal I have had in Manhattan thus far--from tasty appetizers (highly recommend the Farmer's Crostini) to a delicious main (a tender, beautifully prepared short rib) to a light and stellar dessert (the ice cream sandwich), Friend of a Farmer consistently knocked it out of the park!
Loved the salmon burger
I’m a foodie and like local, neighborhood places and great we’ll-known hot spots. This was the former and excellent. The corn salad - outstanding. We both had the salmon - cooked to perfection. Excellent value and excellent ambiance. Would highly recommend.
While the restaurant is quaint and cute and the food is good (not great), the service was horrible. We didn’t get menus for 20 minutes because they had a shortage of them and the waiting brought our drinks in waves even though we ordered all at once and it took him a long time to come and take our order. Would not rush back here.
I wasn’t all that thrilled about the place, food or service. I may try it for brunch, but not going back for dinner.
We loved this restaurant! It is adorable, QUIET, and the food is delicious. The best part was the delicious ice cream sandwich for dessert. I loved it and can't wait to come back. We had a wonderful server, and were just so pleased with this place. If you need a quiet place to take your parents that is cozy, and has character and great food, definitely visit this place.
The service was great. The menu was great. The atmosphere was good but very dark upstairs. I was very worried when the waiter brought a steak knife for the short ribs. Sadly, it was needed. The chicken my son ordered was delicious.
One of our party came late. Our server moved mountains to see that she got her dinner quickly as we were going to the theater. We appreciated the effort an his good will.
Although I've had breakfast and luncheon here before, this was my first time for dinner. It was absolutely outstanding.
I have often walked by this place and wanted to try it. Now I have -- and won't go again. The lunch menu is appealing but the food itself was disappointing. My omelette had good ingredients but was on the dry side, not much better (if at all) than what one would get at a coffee shop. Even though Friend of a Farmer is known for its bread, we didn't get any with our meal. And, I'm not usually picky about this, but the service was bad. Things at the front desk were slow and disorganized. Our waiter seemed to think we (two older women) would be dazzled by his looks and charm. We weren't. But we were irritated that it took at least 30 minutes to get a cup of tea. The final excuse was the restaurant was out of cups. Really???
Great dinner with excellent food choices, forthcoming service and relaxed ambiance!
One of the best places I’ve been to.
Food was outstanding, real farm to table.
Our server Ari was very knowledgeable and very friendly. His advised us on the food options.
How is it possible that I’ve never heard of this place?!
Probably people want to keep it a secret.
Food was absolutely amazing. Tried some things outside of my normal comfort zone and was blown away. Will definitely be back
Delicious, great service, and cute, quaint atmosphere!
I WANT to love this place, but the food was really mediocre and the service was awful. Roasted cauliflower should actually be cooked through! And how hard is it to make a tasty salad? We couldn't get bread until after the meal was nearly finished and we were never checked on....
Service cordial and attentive. Were seated in a quiet area which we wanted.
House salad was very good, although main entree came to us cool, not hot.
Told them we had to go to a concert and they got us out in time. Will try again.
Cornbread crunchy and delicious
This continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Beautiful atmosphere and lovely food.
One of our favorites!! We try to make sure we come here each trip
Our server was knowledgeable with regard to the menu. It seemed that he could have been more attentive. The salad we ordered did not get delivered so a dessert to share was offered at the end of the meal. The food was cooked as requested, fresh and flavorful. The noise level can be higher at times. I have been to the restaurant several times and would recommend it.
Overall really good
One of he best breakfasts I have ever had! The setting was great, sat on the second story, service was great! Could not have been a better experience, would highly recommend!
Would have been a far more memorable experience if not spoiled by paltry $34.00 main course of 3 small scallops, which should have been listed (and less costly) as an appetizer.
The chicken pot pie was delicious and the cauliflower to dye for.
We were looking for a last minute reservation for dinner and had been eyeing Friend of a Farmer, so when we saw it available within the hour, we went for it and we were very grateful for it. We were seated in a small, back area that was much quieter than the rest of the restaurant. I typically just drink water but our server had suggested a non-alcoholic drink that was the most surprising element of my meal. From the drink, to the dessert to our amazing survey, Harrison, we enjoyed every aspect of the experience.
A breakfast menu of delicious breakfast selections makes me want to return to try more of them. In a great neighborhood spot in an old-time building with real character.
The weather was beautiful and the restaurant was packed and running a little behind so we ended up sitting at the bar.
Great bartender, great food, and we had a very nice time!
Always excellent and the service is outstanding. Just love the Salmon!
