To provide our guests with a warm familiar feeling found only in the countryside, we’ve carefully crafted and hand built all of the wooden columns, ceilings, floors, and fireplaces.
Our specialty cocktails and homemade juices are all pressed at the farm. The seasonal ingredients, homemade syrups, infused liquors and balanced pours blend beautifully to create a unique and delicious finish.
Our wines are carefully selected and primarily focused around the boutique, family owned vineyards, many of which are sustainable and bio-dynamic.
Thirty later and Friend of a Farmer still remains a family owned business that has stayed true to its roots and concept.

I am heartsick this place closed. I was here last on Christmas and they made it special for us, and had been here for both regular dinners and special occasions. They were only open a few years yet had understood the neighborhood and were beloved. I am sickened by the greed of the landlords over here, and hope that's not the reason they closed.
Waiter service was good. Ambiance was great. Food was of good quality.
Second time here eating dinner with out-of-town family members. The food was excellent. The service was a bit spotty. Drinks came after appetizers. Server was not particularly strong, but they may have been short-staffed.
On our first visit the server took a good amount of time reviewing the menu and making suggestions. Different server, different outcome.
It was a bit loud, but that was likely due to the family at the table next to us with a screaming baby.
Food was outstanding. Drinks were balanced. Sever was super knowledgeable and helped me make a great choice for dinner. Thank you and I will return.
Excellent food and service. Back room was very cozy and charming with fireplace - country farm-room atmosphere. Surprisingly not crowed for lunch. Farm to table ingredients made for a delicious meal. I understand the menu changes based on the seasonality and availability of the ingredients. Highly recommend for all occasions.
Quieter in the front. Not sure how (foresight, I guess) but snag a table by the fire if you can. Sitting in a half booth by the bar is also quieter than the back room as long as there's not too much traffic. Loved the food, each plate was well executed.
Salad was excellent. Soup a bit too salty. Fantastic ambiance great service. Lovely date night restaurant.
I love Friend of the farmer, great atmosphere and food. However, on New Years eve I made a reservation using Open Table - and I also called the restaurant to confirm and modify my reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant we were told that we did not have a reservation!
Luckily, there was one table available. No one apologized or took responsibility for the error.
It is a beautiful restaurant that deserves so much better! The hostess was extremely abrasive, the music was terrible and the food was bland! It was such a disappointment after having been to the Gramercy location!
The atmosphere at Friend of a Farmer was wonderful... very charming and cozy. We were seated right by the fire so was extra comfortable. The food was good, but we were with a friend who was vegan and there’s was only a salad option available for her. When she asked if she could just have a side of vegetables she was told no because it wasn’t on the menu. We were a table of 6 and when the bread was brought to the table it was one piece of cornbread that should have served 2, but it was for 6. A little stingy I think. I was disappointed in how heavy the meals were. They were pretty good, but not many healthy, light options. Overall I would not recommend this to my friends unfortunately. It has the potential to be great but didn’t meet my standards for a night out.
This restaurant has the most beautiful vintage decor:antique wallpaper, working fireplace, rustic manor from yesteryear. The artisanal cocktails were
great. The food is good, although the portions were small and I had to ask for more vegetables with my dinner. We went for a summer birthday on a patio with a great view as well as Xmas. Service is good.
A beautiful atmosphere, opened Christmas Day for dinner. We found the service excellent, the food very good and the overall feeling of people enjoying themselves. Decor was lovely and included a real burning fireplace. I did feel the prices were higher than expected after checking the website, but it was a holiday.
The staff are friendly but the service is slow every time I go in there. The waiters don’t really know the menu fluently or English for that matter. But the food and setting is great. I will be back!
Ariel our waiter/ Bartender was a down to earth delight who received us with open arms the moment we arrived. The food was rich and Indeed as Fresh as “farm to table” gets. Can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu.
Service was poor. We tried ordering our appetizers first but the waiter insisted that we put in our whole order and he would bring things out accordingly. Well, our entrees came out first. Then everything else came out within minutes afterwards. He then came over and said he misunderstood us and placed the blame on us saying that we miscommunicated. Then he didn’t come back for a while (seemed nervous). I had a hard time getting a wine menu and at one point they didn’t bring us plates and silverware. After one of the pasta entrees sat out for a while untouched, we asked that they put it under the warmer for a while until we were ready but the dish we received later was not the same and wasn’t good (he had really talked it up). One of his two dessert recommendations really sucked too - the banana bread was really dry and stale.
We had a friend join us later after we had closed the tab. I stayed with her for a few drinks and the rest of my party left. There were a few other tables there too. When we left, he dropped a comment about us “camping out.” Having worked in the food/bev industry for many years I know that this saying has a negative connotation.
We were planning on going back for breakfast and decided not to after this experience. And although a few of the dishes were good, I was seriously underwhelmed overall.
We have been to Friend of a Farmer a dozen times over the last two years, always hoping it would get better. Alas, it has gotten worse. This last time (and it will be the last ever), the bartender was overwhelmed, the food was undercooked, the waiter did his best, but oh, don't go there. It's pretty to look at, but don't go!
Place to be
Birthday! Was a lovely time.
Cena del ringraziamento, prima volta a New York! Tutto perfetto! Era esattamente ciò che desideravo!!!!
Neighborhood gem. Few good restaurants in Brooklyn Heights
Good food. Beautiful decor. Had pasta and hamburger
This was a great find.
I work right in the area and found it while on a walk. I highly recommend. The food was delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the accompanying barley with butternut squash was so good I wanted to ask for more! My husband got the burger and was also impressed.
The only gripe was the skillet cookie. The caramel sauce was too hard and got stuck in my teeth! But other than that, it was reasonably priced, the decor is beautiful and it was a great place to go.
Loved this new find that is a nice walk from my daughter apt. The food was beautifully prepared & presented. The ambiance of the decor creates a nice atmosphere to really enjoy your meal and your dining company. Service was attentive and knowledgeable . We will definitely be back
I have have eaten at the restaurant about a half a dozen time and have enjoyed it. Unfortunately dinner was just ok. Waiter was more of a shoe salesman than waiter.
Food was outstanding, service fantastic, great ambiance. A wonderful birthday dinner with close friends, I cannot think of anything that could have been improved.
Parents came to visit
Always love the duplex dining of this neighborhood gem. Cozy and great service. Wish they placed more fresh seafood appetizers on the menu. Will return
This was the first time I tried this restaurant and I loved it. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy. I loved that they have a fireplace. The waitstaff was friendly and knowledgable and the food and cocktails were delicious! I highly recommend the shepherd's pie!
Food was absolutely delicious. Drinks were great and the service was excellent. I'd highly recommend to anyone.
Tasty healthy options that also appeal to those who just want good tasting food. My teenager who could exist on hamburgers and pizza enjoyed are pasta and loved the sauce for my seafood dish
Great great food! Clean food. Very well prepared. Delicious! Couldn't ask for more.
Worth a trip just for the two fireplaces. I've been to Friend of a Farmer in the city, but this was my first visit to the Brooklyn Heights location. The service by Ellen was superb, and the food was fantastic. I ordered the Old Savana Wheat and Chicken sandwich which I happily devoured. Now that Brooklyn Heights--like much of Brooklyn--is being overrun by chain stores, Friend of a Farmer is a lovely alternative mom and pop.
The brunch is amazing, best eggs benedict in history! It's nice to sit at the bar or tables in the windows.
I immediately texted all my friends: good, not great, food. bad, very bad service.
Lovely setting and very good service (We asked for a quiet table on a Saturday night and they tried very hard to accommodate our request!) but 2 of our 4 entrees were disappointing. My husband's beef short rib was tough and my friend's chicken pot pie overwhelmingly seasoned with rosemary. However, the other 2 dishes (salmon with butternut pearl barley side and shrimp and pasta) were very enjoyable. We will definitely return.
It was a wonderful cozy atmosphere for our anniversary. It isn't very formal, but pricey.
Although the restaurant is beautiful and the food was delicious (crab cakes were yummy), the host was extremely harried and arrogant, in spite of the restaurant being rather empty.
Amazing farm-to-table fare. All meats are sourced in the best, healthiest way - grass-fed, pastured, etc. Only criticism is the club soda. They bring out a bottle with an old-fashioned siphon (cool) but they charge $8 for the soda (not cool). Server didn't tell us upfront when we ordered it. He also didn't tell us when we ordered a second bottle. Most restaurants are doing complimentary sparkling water now. They should too. $16 on the bill for this was silly
So delighted to have Friend of Farmer in Brooklyn Heights! Just had the best meal I have ever had in this neighborhood. The salad's were just-picked fresh and the entrees were creative, yet simple. I had the herb-encrusted cod served on a bed of spinach, white beans, maybe grape tomatoes -- all I can say is that it was delicious! My husband had the crab cakes that were generous in size and he also thought his meal was great. We had a mock-tail version of a drink called Gramercy Park that was so special and nuanced in its taste that I'm still thinking about days later! And the flourless chocolate cake w mandarin marmalade was just heavenly. Service was excellent. And the upper outside deck was so sweet. Torn between sharing this review and keeping this gem our little secret!
Came here on the recommendation of our hotel. We walked down to the restaurant and loved the location and neighborhood. The happy hour offered a bit of a discount, they were out of a few things, we decided to go with several small plates which were all tasty. The menu changes all the time, fresh daily soups, we enjoyed everything. There were lots of people working but the flow of all the staff seemed out of sync. Once we were seated (and we had a reservation) then our server made up for it. He was very attentive and did an excellent job..Sadly we were too full from all the tasty items and couldn't fit in dessert. Leave some room as they had several choices that sounded pretty tasty! After eating, walk to the water front and see the beautiful Manhattan skyline!
