Since 1986 Friend of a Farmer has been a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement. We’ve created a reputation for seasonally fresh and local ingredients within an atmosphere unlike anything else in New York City.

To provide our guests with a warm familiar feeling found only in the countryside, we’ve carefully crafted and hand built all of the wooden columns, ceilings, floors, and fireplaces.

Our specialty cocktails and homemade juices are all pressed at the farm. The seasonal ingredients, homemade syrups, infused liquors and balanced pours blend beautifully to create a unique and delicious finish.

Our wines are carefully selected and primarily focused around the boutique, family owned vineyards, many of which are sustainable and bio-dynamic.

Thirty later and Friend of a Farmer still remains a family owned business that has stayed true to its roots and concept.

With our central location, Friend of a Farmer is perfect for any business related or personal breakfast, lunch or dinner. We offer many private dining arrangements, which can accomodate both large functions and smaller groups looking for an intimate setting. There are three dining rooms which can be joined for larger events or rented individually for smaller gatherings. Parties of 25 or less can reserve the secluded back dining room. Closed off from the main upstairs dining room, it provides a cozy atmosphere for private celebrations

Atmosphere is great. We are an older couple and of course, they sat us near a work area....but we didn't let that spoil our experience. I had the Irving Place Omelet, the menu makes it look like it doesn't come with any sides which makes you think you need to order a side.....but it does come with potatoes. Also, if you are a coffee lover, the large French coffee press is excellent but won't be enough for two if you are used to having 2 mugs in the morning.

Our waiter, Ari, was beyond delightful. Not only was he fun while we were eating, when I left behind some papers he ran almost 2 blocks to find us and return them to me. Ask for Ari!

I would recommend Friend of a Farmer for breakfast, but dinner was disappointing. My chicken pot pie had virtually no chicken in it. The dish consisted mainly of scalding hot liquid with some cooked (almost like from a can) vegetables. The crust was unremarkable. My friend's salad also was disappointing. Plus the room became so noisy that it was hard to hear one another. We left as soon as we could.

Poor service and the food was bad for how much it is. Not going back, is unfortunate because it was one of my faves in NYC.

The cauliflower appetizer was amazing, as was the signature cocktail. Everything our server recommended was delicious and he was also very funny. Will definitely be going back!
