Enjoy refined Mexican cooking and cocktails at Frida Mexican Cuisine in Westwood. There is plenty of outdoor seating, and it's located across from the Hammer Museum.
The menu at Frida's focuses on a variety of Mexican favorites. Start out with tortilla soup, tacos, chilles relleno, salads and quesadillas. There are a number of healthy options, also, including salmon salad, grilled vegetables and seafood, and for main courses, you can choose from fajitas, flautas, enchiladas, garlic shrimp, carnitas, moles and ceviches. There are many types of margaritas and a generous selection of desserts at Frida. Happy hour is quite popular at this establishment.
Food was great but the service wasn't. Our waitress lacked any personality and seemed in a rush to get us out the door despite the fact that there were tons of open tables. She cleared the plate right out from under my friend's hand while she was still eating!
Enjoyable and fun atmosphere . The food is always good😊
Amazing Mexican Cuisine, best we've ever had. The skirt steak and enchilada was delicious. Outstanding service, truly worth a visit if you enjoy gourmet Mexican or just for drinks and appetizers. The guacamole made tableside was so fresh and flavorful.
The service was very slow at first but improved. The food was very good and quite authentic. The margarita was tasty, but a little weak. I'll go back again just for the guacamole! It was awesome!
Quality for cost good. Noise level unacceptable. Would buy takeout.
Music too loud--would like better service. Waitress didn't listen carefully to order. Seating could be more comfortable, has a slightly "fast food" atmosphere. Would prefer cozy restaurant.
If you get there early, 6-6:30 it's easy seating and the noise level is acceptable.. The staff is very friendly and quite capable.
Food was very good and plentiful. I have been there more than once this week.
We thought Frieda Mexican Restaurant would be a nice place to have lunch. We were so mistaken. The first thing they brought to the table were the chips. They brought mole and green sauce. We asked if we could have some red salsa. They seemed to not know what red salsa was, and said they didn't have any. So we asked for pico de gallo for our chips. They brought 2 small containers. Later we found out that we were charged $7.90 extra for those. Strike 1. When we ordered our food the server asked if I wanted green or brown sauce over my burrito. I said sure, green. I found out later that they charge extra for that too, I could've just used the green sauce that was on the table. Strike 2. There were extra charges for sour cream and extra cheese for my wife's tacos, which she didn't finish because they were not up to the same standard of a less mediocre Mexican restaurant. But the third strike came when on the way home we looked at those extras, which I should have noticed before I paid, but I didn't. My wife called the restaurant to speak with the manager. My wife was transferred to he General Manager Maurico Marcus, who told her he could do nothing about those charges. But he did give her a number to call, which she did. It turned out to be a restaurant back east that had no affiliation with Frieda or Casa Azul Cantina, and told my wife that their restaurant was not part of that or any chain. What a run around!! They put us through all of this for $12.85!! Not a way to run a business. So buyer beware. If you go to Frieda in Westwood, CA. Make sure you ask if there are any extra charges that are not mentioned on the menu. I'm surprised they didn't charge us for water.
Horrible. Food was digusting. It smelled like it was cooked in old dish water. The drinks were good but not consistent.
Frida was OUTSTANDING! We enjoyed all of our meals and the setting is picture perfect. Frida was very accommodating as I had made reservations via OpenTable but something must have got mixed up. They seated us right away and in an perfect spot to watch the sun set. The value for what you receive is great! Make sure you visit this restaurant while on the island. AMAZING!
My husband and I went there for Sunday brunch and enjoyed ourselves. The food is always really tasty.
the food was good but not exceptional. the staff seem to be eager to get out of there since we arrived at 8:30 and the place was empty. maybe at another time or day things would have been more animated. i was hoping for a really nice mexican experience and it was just okay.
one of our guests was gluten free. the servers were not informed on this but they did go check. did not have a gluten free menu.
We have been coming here since it opened. The service has been consistently terrible but the food was still worth the trip...in the past. The food has not been great the past few times and the service has been getting worse and worse - who would have thought possible!? Also, the noise level is unbearable. I understand this is near a college campus so they are trying to appeal to that demographic (for the record, I am not an old lady) but the acoustics in the restaurant are set up for everything to echo and coupled with the blaring music - it makes for a terrible dining experience. After years of dining here, we've decided this dinner was our last. Will stick with Frida tacos at the Brentwood countrymart instead.
we wanted delicious mexican food but that was clearly not on our plate - we got a burrito and tacos - chicken meat was diced and not very good - we waited a while fro our drinks and on second order the waitress completely forgot - people were nice though -
The food is really what sells this place. Unfortunately the service goes from too attentive (being asked every 5 minutes how everything is by different staff even when our food hasn't yet arrived) to can't find the waiter when we now need to get going and make our play. I would still recommend especially if you need a place before heading to the Geffen. It's in walking distance and the food is tasty and moderately priced. To me, the drinks are a little pricey but I guess that is normal.
Once we were seated by the hostess we waited 15 min and no waiter had checked in with us. We had to ask the hostess to get a waiter and still waited another 5 min. Simple food orders took a while to deliver and was not delivered by our waiter. Our waiter or other staff never came back to check on us and make sure our order was ok; our waiter never came back at all. We again had to get the hostess to get our waiter to get our check letting her know we had basketball tickets and had to leave. After waiting 10 min, getting up and walking over to our waiter helping others to ask AGAIN for our check he finally dropped it off but never came back for the credit card and we had to flag a different waiter to finish the credit card process. Our waiter really couldn't care less, never apologized or acknowledged that we had to leave and he was totally ignoring us. We will not go back here... the food was good but not worth the aggravation or the bad attitude toward the customers.
Service was not great, too bad because food and drinks are decent.
Food was wonder, service was outstanding!
Food was good, lots of brunch options
A suggestion to the staff to not be to eager to clear plates from the table. My friend barely set her utensils down & a staff member was already at the table ready to clear her plate. They seem rushed when they don't need to be. They're so hurried, they pushed some plates off the bussing cart which fell & broke near our table. No harm done but why so frenetic when the restaurant is only half full. Other than that, the food and service are great!
Food was great but very pricey.
I ordered a veggie burrito which is not on the menu. So they brought me veggie tacos. No big deal they said to simply wrap it all up in a burrito. They did so and I said thanks. They charged me $19 for that burrito, when the taco plate was $13. As small an amount as that is, it's just plain old fashioned gouging. Not cool. I don't think I'll be going back.
For being so close to the water the ceviche trio was beyond awful. I had to send it back because it was not edible and I was STILL CHARGED! I normally would have fought it but I just wanted to get out and never return. It started out bad and continued throughout the meal. I made a reservation (because it was a Saturday) and when I arrived 3 employees of the restaurant were chatting it up. It took them about 1 minute to realize I was just staring at them. Second, the waitress did not know how to explain the menu and give recommendations. She refused to ask the chef for 1 taco a la carte so I was forced to order a dish I would never finish. I requested one scoop of sour cream and I was given a huge bowl, later charged for it. My boyfriend and I shared the fajitas combo and when we requested a couple more tortillas (we were only given three even though the waitress was told we were sharing so we ordered an extra side of rice and beans) and we were brought 2 containers with about 6 tortillas each! Unless the employees were bringing you something they can charge you will not see them. They are probably too busy talking.
Great for celebrations especially for Sunday Brunch; the Mariachi's add an extra party atmosphere but can be too loud at times. Service is excellent and the food is good. Their Strawberry Margarita's and Tres Leche Cake are yummy!
A friend recommended this place the reviews were mixed but we took a chance ,the food was excellent the service outstanding.. The only part that bummed me out was when making the reservations there was a spot that you could write a special request and this happened to be our 8th wedding anniversary . Well I was thinking they may sing to us or a dessert or even a anniversary wish but we got nothing , so why do they even ask ? Other than that we loved the place and Eduardo our waiter ...!!!!!
Mole mole mole, soo good
we both ordered the three different types of enchiladas. Instead of them all being chicken, it would have been better if one or two of them had been cheese. They were very dry and if there had been any cheese it was invisible although most enchiladas are served with melted cheese. The service was very slow although it was not crowded in the restaurant. Far and away , the best part of the meal was the dessert. We had flan, which was delicious.
WE like Beverly Hills better...the atmosphere, even the food. We were in the neighborhood and wanted to try it again. Not for us. VERY noisy inside
Frida offers dependably tasty and well-prepared contemporary Mexican dishes in a handsome, comfortable atmosphere. Service is great. Octopus Tacos were excellent, if a bit hard to eat neatly. It's a large menu from small to large plates, sure to satisfy anyone's palate.
We were there very early, 5:30pm, and the restaurant was fairly empty. But the kitchen lost our ticket and we waited 40 minutes to be served. Then we had to eat at warp speed to leave in time for a 7pm theater performance. They were apologetic but it was not a pleasant dining experience.
Found this restaurant close to our hotel in Westwood, an easy walk in UCLA Medical Center area. Took a while to be acknowledged by a server after being seated, & server was all business-no small talk. Decor is lovely, but noise level is horrendous with a very loud table of people close to the bar. However, our lobster tacos were delicious and beautiful "presentation" as well.
Had a friend visiting from out of town and decided to come here for a quick dinner. Food was good, but our waitress, Jasmine was absolutely horrible! The minute we sat down she rushed over and snarkily asked if we wanted to start with any apps. We had hardly hit the seats, so we asked for a few minutes. She rushed back almost immediately to check again and kept forcing the drink menu. We were trying to catch up and chat a bit and didn't want to be rushed. Clearly that wasn't something she respected. We asked for recommendations and there was a glimmer of hope that she was nice, but that quickly failed. Anyway, the food was good and we enjoyed, then just tried to chat after we finished. We had at least 3 people within a 5 minute span ask to clear my friends plate, which clearly he wasn't finished! Jasmine came back and asked us to look at the dessert menus, we said we would but needed some time. No more than 5 mins later, she was back asking if we had looked and what we wanted. Really? There were 10 people eating in the restaurant, so its not like people were fighting for the tables! We said no to dessert, so she promptly dropped off our check. Then proceeded to check it every couple of minutes to see if we had put our credit cards in. Then asking, if we were ready for her to take the check. It was rude and inconsiderate and made everyone at the table uncomfortable. I suggest some major training of all employees at this restaurant, especially Jasmine.
awesome hand crafted margaritas along with authentic Mexican food with all the best traditional dishes of mexico, a wonderful find in LA!
The food was very good but spotty service and the noise level made enjoying it a challenge.
Guacamole was yummy. The tacos were really good. The meat was super flavorful and juicy. Nice staff, great service. My only complaint about this place is the decor, low energy music, and overall ambiance. The Beverly location is ok, so I was surprised to see how ugly the interior design of this location was. I'm not a designer, but i'm pretty sure dark cherry wood chairs do not match with the bright aqua turquoise, pink, orange splash palette and faded white recycled wood 2x4 wall treatments.
Came here for Mother's Day brunch. It wasn't crowded, which was great, but service was still slow. On Sundays they offer a brunch buffet which includes mimosas or beer for $35. While they do have a large selection of food, I would have chosen a regular meal. I don't recall anything being exceptionally delicious except for the tacos al pastor. The meat was fresh and tortillas were handmade. Don't think I'll be coming back.
Every bite was delicious and with so much flavor. Service is great. I really recommend the tres leches cake for desert. Will definitely be going back.
Way too overbearing waiters who came by so often we felt rushed even though there wasn't a wait. I appreciate good, attentive service but this bordered on ridiculous and we couldn't wait to leave. Sorry to say that the food wasn't as good as the Beverly Hills location either, which is too bad - Westwood could use a place like this.
