I was in town to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday... the food, drinks & service at Fresco were all wonderful. Edgar took care of us at the bar & Amanda took care of us at the table - both were amazing at what they do! Thank you so much!
We have eaten here several times and always enjoy the uniqueness of the seasonal dishes the chef presents on the ever changing menu. The service is superb and unobtrusive, which is just right for the ambiance the restaurant presents. Even though the outside views run from spectacular (of the capital) to the strange (the odd rooftop views), this is a truly fine place to dine.
Pricier, but delicious. Great for an intimate special occasion.
We were given a gift card for Fresco. We didn't even realize it was above the art museum.
Our server, Richard, who was alone in the restaurant for awhile, did a superior job in serving our dishes. The food was awesome. The Mahi was the best my husband ever ate, he said it melted in his mouth. My City Cider cocktail with a floating dried blood orange was SO good.
The atmosphere was quiet, the restaurant modern in decor. But, best of all, the prices were great-We didn't even use our entire gift card despite the fact that we had an appetizer, two vegetable plates, two entres, two desserts, a beer and a cocktail!
We would definitely return.
We completely loved our experience at Fresco. The food was outstanding, we loved every bite of it. The snacks and starters are unique and nice to share. You will not be disappointed. Try the octopus capriccio as well as the mussels. So tasty. The pasta options were wonderful and the desserts amazing. We will go back soon and look forward to warmer weather so we can enjoy the outdoor seating.
Fresh fish from Ecuador 12 hours ago? Yes please! Delicious! The chef menu varies and is always amazing and custom.
Everything was served timely and generously.
The Brussels sprouts appetizer was enough for 4 people.
Always love the little bread bowl. Hot and delicious.
I thought the view was amazing and the location was great... as we were seeing a performance at The Orpheum across the street. I thought the atmosphere seemed a little stuffy for my taste and the service was just ok. I wanted to love it but we had had a drink and appetizer at En Vino Wine Bar & Bistro and liked the vibe there a bit more.
This restaurant does everything right. Food was tasty and well prepared. An entree wasn't warm enough, server offered to bag it for us to take home, and brought another entree done correctly. And she brought the table a complimentary dessert, which was awesome; buttermilk Begnets with chocolate fudge sauce and side of hard sauce. Silverware was replaced, napkins refolded, someone always was keeping an eye on our table, unobtrusively. I am looking forward to returning.
The restaurant was wonderful and sent over Champagne and dessert for our Anniversary. That was such a nice touch. We had 2 vegetarians with us and they were very accommodating, however, the menu on Open Table is not the same menu we had on our visit. We had a few things come out not as expected and they fixed it right away.
The customer service was OUTSTANDING!
All and fabulous for any occasion.
Our 1st time. Going back, no question.! 😉
Loved the place and vibe. Food was good but veggie selections were exceptionally salty and too much oil used.
Would absolutely visit again.
Pre-play dinner was our reason for joining you. Enjoyed the atmosphere but it was quite noisy. That comes from having a full restaurant, so it is not surprising! The view of the moon over the Capitol building was so beautiful many of the diners were up snapping photos! I enjoyed being in a "prime" seat to see it all! The food was excellent. We would definately join you again! Thank you!
Great experience! We went for a birthday and they surprised us with a special birthday treat. Also the kitchen and waitress handled questions about food sensitivities really professionally.
Great food, warm quiet atmosphere
Overall a very comfortable space and had a lovely meal. The wedge salad is enough for 3 to share. The salmon was very good and the right portion. The servers were friendly and efficient. Making a reservation was easy. Such a convenient place for attending the Overture Center afterwards! Will do it again!
A wonderful evening with a great staff! Very accommodating to change our reservation time. Excellent food. Stunning view. We will be back!
We wanted to give another shot to Fresco and this time, it has been better than the last time but still not worth the money. The food is well presented but overall nothing really special. Tempura battered potatoes for examples are just chips. Tables are way too close and people pass close to your food all the time. Overall great location and view of the capital but unfortunately not worth the bill.
Amazing food with an awesome server to boot. We tried scallops, beef tenderloin, a salad and soup all amazing.
Everything about our food and service was outstanding. We ordered the salmon, the scallops and pappardelle. All prepared wonderfully. The mixed green salad served with a bit too much dressing. The honey lavender creme brûlée was the best I’ve had! Our only complaint would be the heat and smells from the kitchen when dining here during the winter. It’s a small space and ventilation is inadequate.
Food & Service was outstanding, overlooking city roof tops and Capital
My reservation indicated that this was my wedding anniversary. There was no acknowledgement. We were given a sub par table, even though there were better available tables in the restaurant. The bartender and server were excellent.
We greatly enjoyed our meal at Fresco. Service was friendly and excellent. Portions were adequate and all tasted great. The setting is excellent with views of downtown Madison.
I went here unsure of how it would be for the price. I was pleasantly surprised. Great service, wonderful atmosphere, beautiful view, delicious food. Highly suggest it!
My family of four including two teens had dinner before a show at the Overature Center. It was our first visit and we really enjoyed Fresco. I think I could have easily given 5 Stars... My tenderloin was small—maybe 4 oz—but fantastic and cooked to perfection. The potatoes below it were not particularly interesting or warm, and the fried enoki mushrooms tasted like straw (maybe they could be sautéed until just crisp tender rather that dried out by frying?...)... but these were redeemed by the fabulous blue cheese blob which I stacked on the tenderloin. My teens both enjoyed the wonderful burger which was more than ample at 1/2 pound and was tender as butter. Hubby had the mahi mahi which he also raved about; he paired this with the terrific crispy Brussels sprouts. My daughter and I each had the butter lettuce salad which had lots of delicious Gorgonzola cheese and a sweet touch of fruit and was dressed perfectly. The biggest negative—and the rest of the family was NOT bothered by this—is that I could smell food during our following theatre show and I realized that all of our clothes smelled like food. That must be why the restaurant smelled so good when we walked in!... just beware that this may also happen to you. :) I really think the smelly clothes is the reason for my 4 Star rating! Perhaps Fresco could consider amping up its kitchen ventilation. All in all lots of fun and memorable. We will return.
Dinner prior to a Madison Symphony concert. With spouse and friends. Pleasant waitstaff.
Every part of our evening was amazing. The food was fantastic, our server was VERY knowledgeable and Chef was gracious enough to send us several beautiful and tasty dishes. Can’t wait to come back!
We always enjoy Fresco. Excellent service, great food.
This was our second dinner at Fresco. They had a reasonably priced prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day. The menu had a number of interesting choices and the dishes generally were well executed. My wife raved about the bruschetta appetizer, as the prosciutto and balsamic glaze enhanced what can be a bland dish in less capable hands. I had the burrata appetizer, which was superb when capers were on the fork to provide a salty element, but there were not enough capers on the plate. My wife had the pan-roasted chicken entree, which she enjoyed; however, the kitchen staff was a little heavy-handed with the paprika on the potatoes, which caught her off guard. The trophie pasta was the highlight of my meal, as the boar was tender and the dish was seasoned perfectly. For dessert, my wife had the buttermilk beignets with chocolate sauce. She could have eaten a plateful of them. My tiramisu, which was recommended by the waitperson, was good, but mushy, as it lacked sufficient textural contrast despite some crushed hazelnuts sprinkled on top. A glass of sparkling wine was included and it was a good way to start the meal. We each also had a glass of wine, a German Riesling for my wife and I had a Cabernet from Argentina, which were very good. The service was impeccable - attentive without hovering - and dishes were served in a timely manner. Despite being at a table in the middle of the room, we enjoyed quiet conversation without distraction. We've been fortunate to dine at many restaurants in Madison and find Fresco to be one of the best. It is a fine dining experience, in the sense that the chef and staff understand flavor combinations and display very good technique, but it is neither pretentious nor inaccessible to those merely seeking a very good meal in a cozy atmosphere.
We thought the Valentine's Day menu was amazing. All three of each of our courses were delicious. I could tell the ingredients were fresh and local. Compliments to the chef.
stopped in for a super early dinner before a show at the overture center. the food and service were perfect. the scallops were probably the best i've had. don't skip the brussels sprouts.
The rotating menu of food and cocktails is always a delight to visit. Consistently delicious offerings and service.
We celebrated an early Valentine's Day at Fresco. The food, service and ambiance were excellent! We always love dining at Fresco!
All of the above is excellent. When you add in top notch service the place is hard to beat for a great meal at a great value in Madison.
There was a lot of bacon in my brussels sprouts dish and in my scallops dish.
We made a great choice going to Fresco before a show on a weekday evening. Every time we go there, we are pleasantly re-surprised at how GREAT the food is. Among the 4 of us, we had 1 appetizer, 4 different entrees, and 4 different desserts. Each was excellent. Flavor, accompaniments, and preparation of the meals were spot-on. I really think that eating at Fresco feels a bit like eating at the home of friends who happen to be really good cooks. Sophisticated comfort food. Also, it's not easy to find a really delicious restaurant downtown that is not LOUD. Fresco manages to have that cool vibe without the clattering noise and competing voices. We sat near the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chef and kitchen staff work together to send out the beautiful and delicious food. They appeared to be so focused on food preparation -- almost like an air traffic control room. We left happy and satisfied.
Excellent service- our server was great! Had the Trofie wild boar ragout and scallops; both were delicious. Each had a glass of wine (a bit pricey but it was a special occasion) and flourless chocolate cake & off-menu Tiramisu, both excellent as well. It got a bit warm in the dining room just as we were finishing the main courses, then we were getting a lot of smoke from the kitchen. Overall we enjoyed ourselves though.
Creative dishes, beautifully presented, and most importantly - DELICIOUS! Thank you for a memorable birthday celebration!
Always exceptional. Delicious, clean food, creative cocktails, and thoughtful, fun waitstaff.
The wait staff were AMAZING! They helped us explore the menu and they made a birthday event super special! The food was so delicious and we'd go back for the service for sure!
Thanks for such a great evening!
