Enjoy artfully plated Peruvian cuisine at Fresca in Fillmore. It has a comfortable, casual yet contemporary setting that's ideal for enjoying a meal with family or friends. Fresca features an open kitchen where guests can enjoy watching the chefs create their dishes. Delicious appetizers like ceviche made with fresh seasonal fish, crab-filled wonton fritters and lamb meatballs will tantalize the palate before you dine on the main course. Fresca serves traditional popular entrées like lomo saltado, whicht consists of sautéed tenderloin steak strips topped with onions, tomatoes and cilantro on a bed of rice.
Owners Zoila and Julio Calvo-Perez opened Fresca's doors to share the flavors of their culture to locals and visitors to the community. This restaurant offers wine and beer with meals. It hosts various events and also welcomes reservations.
The food was delicious, and our server was spectacular. We didn't want to leave! We took our parents here -- they're from out of town and love trying fun restaurants in the city. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants but I was even more impressed this time around -- definitely a perfect spot to impress the parents! Plus, we NEVER order dessert and ended up ordering four to share among 5 of us. Not because we were hungry, either -- it was just too good to resist. Can't wait to go back.
Good food, but very loud restaurant. The tables are too close together...really packing everyone in. Too bad it's so noisy.
The food was very good overall. It was presented well and had complex and delicious flavors. We especially enjoyed a seafood chowder and the jalea mixta. We arrived about 6:00 and the restaurant was quiet and comfortable. By the time we left, about 8:15, the noise level interfered with our conversation. The servers were very helpful and pleasant but, as the restaurant got more crowded, the pace of service became incredibly slow.
Amazing food! A must when you visit San Francisco. We have been dining here for years every time we are in town. I am far from being a creature of habit, but this restaurant's food quality is superb, and makes you keep coming back for more. We are in town for four nights, and decided to come back for dinner again second time on the same trip.
Services are truly delicious. I would recommend dining at the bar and watching chefs prepare the food right in front of you.
I scheduled a reservation to celebrate my girlfriend and I 2nd year anniversary. I was excited to celebrate our two years over a nice meal. We showed up 10 minutes early where we were seated quickly. After being seated no server acknowledge us for 10-15 minutes. My girlfriend and I were just sitting there waiting to place our order and all the servers did not acknowledge us what so over. I have never been completely ignored for around 15 minutes after being seated at a restaurant. We finally ordered our food after 15 minutes of being ignored, which took around 45 minutes to delivered to us! This horrible experience lasted an hour and half. While waiting for our food and during eating our dinner the server only came twice to check on us. I was extremely disappointed in the service me and my girlfriend got at this place. My girlfriend noted to me that she felt that we were ignored because we were the only people of color eating. This was one of the worst services I've ever experienced and what made it worse is that I choose this place to celebrate 2nd year anniversary with my girlfriend. Big mistake!
This was our daughters choice for her 26 th birthday. Service and food were very good. It was pricey though.
Great food but the service is very slow. Our waitress didn't come to greet us until 10 minutes after we arrived. Food took a long time to come and the main dish came before the appetizers. We had to ask for our plantain chips with the appetizer 3 times before asking a different waiter to bring it. Then we had to ask for our check 3 separate times until it finally came. We honestly felt ignored by the staff. Food is good but you just need to budget double the time you might normally for dinner.
Food was amazing and waitress was so pleasant and always making sure we were ok
Excellent ceviche and chupe, two of our favorites. But no pisco sour at a Peruvian restaurant? Ouchl
This place never disappoints! If you want great Peruvian in the city this place is a must visit. Do note they don't have Pisco Sours at this location though... My the sangria is great!
Fantastic ceviche sampler, friendly staff, a good surprise for a nice lunch with friends
Great service, but above all, perfect food. Certainly way too loud (why don't restaurants add sound absorption foam on their walls like a music studio?), but worth it for the food. Thank you - divine!
we were in town for the weekend from Cincinnati. we had received a tip that the neighborhood restaurants were good, but we booked Fresca sight unseen. the food was amazing. we split several dishes which were all good, but the meatball appetizer was our favorite. the sangria was also delicious. our server was friendly and helpful, but didn't rush us. we would definitely go back.
My favorites were the empanadas, the lamb meatballs, and the sashimi - all so good.
Fun vibe, went on a Friday night, had a 7:30pm reservation. Beer and wine only.
Bad attitude by the hostess/server. Women was not kind
The samplers are an excellent way to try everything, but it adds up quickly for two people. Also, I highly recommend the sangria.
We had a 730 reservation. We were seated at 810. We did not receive service until 830. Under staffed and over busy. The first course was good. Entrees were fair at best. We eat at Fresca West Portal regularly and would not return to Fillmore.
Maybe we were there at an off time. Waiters were all standing around together and chatting. Service left a bit to be desired. Food was tasteless and not made well. I ordered trout with shrimp and there was literally two pieces of shrimp. It was really just trout covered in a huge pile of purple onions, such a huge pile that I couldn't see the fish! Not what I had in mind.
Overall good food! The bistek was great and the paella was okay. The ceviche ahi tuna was quite good as well.
The service was okay. It was a very busy night so our waiter wasn't as attentive as we would have liked.
Would definitely come back but hopefully service improves the next time.
I'm taking the time to write a review to commend Elsa for her calm and effective action that evening. A woman seated with a man, possibly on a first date, had a seizure. The man froze. Elsa filled the void and cradled the woman in her arms and prevented her from hurting herself. She also calmed the woman's date, who after a while got out of his seat and began to help.
It was a weird night at Fresca. An adjoining table of 8 women was extremely high maintenance. Shortly after the woman had the seizure, 2 of the women at the table of 8 got into a heated argument, wherein one of them challenged the other at least 3 times "let's take it outside". These women were in their late 40's at least, if not their 50's! Elsa had to manage that table also, as well as a table immediately behind the woman who had the seizure, who were patient & quiet despite having their meal seriously disturbed.
Before all this happened we stood on the sidewalk waiting until 8:35 pm for a table when we had an 8 pm reservation. One table had a check sitting on it when we arrived at 7:50 pm. That table finally paid and left at 8:45 pm. we took a different table that let their check sit for about 15 minutes. A glance towards the entrance would have been sufficient to see that people were waiting for a table. Another table let a check sit for over an hour, but at that point no one else was waiting to be seated. No knock on Fresca, just an observation about the lack of courtesy of a number of its patrons that particular evening.
Elsa was a star that night, and the food was good.
This is one of my wife's and my top 5 go to restaurants in San Francisco. Contemporary Peruvian cuisine, you simply cannot go wrong ordering ANYTHING off of their menu. That being said, I think Fresca has THE BEST ceviches in the city. Don't just get one (if you must, go with the Ceviche Chifa) but consider doing the sampler. Consider also trying the anticuchos--they're as delicious as they are interesting. As for entrees, here's where it truly is dealer's choice--it's all great. The atmosphere is romantic dark, while the tables are pretty packed in there. Consider eating at the bar if no table is available, which is located in front of the open kitchen and allows ringside viewing of the action there. Fresca is a GREAT choice in a neighborhood packed with them!
It is our tradition to dine here every time we come to town!
I know California is in a drought, but can a boy not get water all night long? Literally died of dehydration. That should have been a big red flag. The service was slow, and our server helped and chatted with everyone around us and didn't pay any attention to us - Umm I don't think we smell so why are you ignoring me?
With that being said, the food was okay, the ceviche was probably the best dish we got, with everything else a little bland. I would rate the food at B.
This is the second time that they gave away our requested table even though I actually visited the restaurant at lunch to make sure they would save it for us for our dinner reservation. The servers are terrific but the food is only average now—not as good as a couple of years ago—while the prices steadily increase. It's our neighborhood and we try and support it but I think it is more and more difficult for us to justify going back.
We like everything about this restaurant except the noise level. It's too high for us to have a comfortable conversation. However, the younger clientele seem to enjoy that level of noise.
Although the noise level was a little high, the energy of the restaurant was amazing.
The food was absolutely incredible. The roasted duck was amazing. I would highly recommend trying the traditional Cuban food.
I've been to Fresca three times now. This time, we went for a special occasion and my shrimp chowder had a big eggshell in it that I bit into. It ruined the meal for me, and rather than taking it off the bill (which I could expect), they sent out a free dessert. Perhaps I have high standards, but I feel paying $22 for a dish that I did not finish once the eggshell was found was unfair and I won't go back again.
Great food, ambience and service. It was also good for kids, but did notice that we were the only group with kids.
Excellent food and good services
Enjoy eating here whenever we visit SF from the Wine Country. We were sorry to see they no longer have the fried plantains, though. Interesting menu, with a good variety of tastes. Great place to share a bunch of appetizers.
Had never been to Fresca even is near my home, the food was lovely, the trout was very good and loved the alfajores for desert, large enough to share, will go back soon.
This place is always crowded and reservations are highly recommended. Love coming here for my fix of ceviche and paella. We had the ceviche sampler with the plantain chips. Ceviche was fresh and great portions. The plantain chips were excellent, crunchy not greasy or salty. The paella was very flavorful with plenty of protein. Great atmosphere and plenty of options for all. I would highly recommend Fresca to others and can't wait to go back for more ceviche
Decided to spend my birthday at Fresca and was not disappointed. Food was to die for as always. The chefs have clearly mastered the flavors. Everything from the causa to the seco de Cordero to the picarones were top notch.
My only complaint was that my seco was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, but instead it came with rice and I wasn't notified beforehand as to why it was swapped out or if they had run out of potatoes.
Still an overall great experience, will be back again!
Passed this restaurant a few times and finally stopped in for lunch. Was so delicious! The ceviches are so fresh and tasty, and the trout dish was amazing! We really enjoyed our lunch and the staff was professional and helpful when it came to deciding what to eat. Everything on our table of 4 was wonderful. Will definitely be returning.
We ordered the crab sandwhich and seafood omelette. Both looked and were good. For 16 bucks each was a fine lunch. Service and ambience nothing special but nice to eat some peruvian food on Fillmore. Will be back.
We hadn't been here for awhile, so it was really nice to see that the food was as spectacular as always. The empanadas were very good, although different than what I've had other places. The roast pork with white beans had such a fabulous flavor. We will definitely go back again.
Everything we ordered was really good. My girlfriend usually takes food home from a restaurant, but she liked the food so much that she overate and finished everything at the restaurant.
I no longer live in San Francisco but make a point in eating at Fresca every time I'm back in town. I'm a foodie and everything I've tried on the menu has been amazing.
This location is not as strong as Noe Valley - it's been awhile since I've been to West Portal. The food was good, but I think we chose two things that were similarly spiced so there wasn't a lot of differentiation. Ceviche is really good here!
The flavors of the ceviches, mussels, salads, fish dishes are all on point, interesting and delicious with just the right heat to them, but the true warmth comes in the service. The staff is just lovely here!
