Service was slow and inattentive. We were told they were understaffed that night.
I had requested one of their nice big booths when I made reservations as we were there to celebrate a birthday and the main dining room is lovely, but they didn’t have any available when we arrived and we got stuck in a back room, which was disappointing! Food was very good! We’d chosen French Meadow for their gluten free and vegetarian options.
It was so tasty, but the only issue is that I got a very little portion for 24 dollars and the table next to me got the same entree but with a bigger portion.
The French Meadow made the top five of our best restaurants. Great service and food.
Vegetarian and Vegan food with taste, texture, and visual appeal- The service was professional and personal. It was a successful dining experience for all of us in the party.
The food was, for the most part good. My husband had the snapper, which was the Special, and it was NOT good. It was over-cooked and burnt on the bottom. Service was also not good. We were there on a Sunday evening, so there was not a lot of people, and yet we still waited a long while for our drinks to be served. Finally, the beers and wine were brought out (we had 5 people at our table and had a reservation)--but the 2 members of our party that had cocktails had to wait another 10 minutes for there drinks, despite the place not being busy. After receiving our drinks, the waitress stopped by several times to apologize for the delay in getting our food, which took over an hour. Really did not have anything too complicated--the Snapper special, 2 burgers, a pasta dish and a chicken dish--so not a clue what the hold-up was. I have been here before for brunch, and it is a very busy place in the morning. I don't recall waiting a long time when here for brunch. Given the fact that the food was so-so and the service was excruciatingly slow, I am not sure I would come back for anything other than brunch.
The green curry with fried tofu is incredible!! Food is always delicious and consistent.
We will return again and again for the Zen salad with salmon!
Good vegan selection
We have been to your restaurant many times and have enjoyed it in the past. This past Saturday night we had a horrendous experience. I will not be back AND I will not only not recommend but will advise against going to Blue Stem.
We had very poor service and the restaurant, plates, glasses and flatware were all very dirty. Food was marginal at best.
We had reservations. When we arrived we let the hostess that we only had an hour as we were going to the Guthrie theater. Typically that would be plenty of time. Instead of acknowledging that and sitting us right away (we had reservations and there were tables immediately ready), she asked us to sit and went back to man the empty hostess stand. There was not line (other than her talking to my husband who had just entered from parking the car).
When we sat down, two out of four of our appetizer plates were dirty as well as my fork had dried lettuce stuck to it. My water had a black thing floating in it.
We told the waiter right away that we were up against theater tickets and we ordered right. Our waiter was not the least bit accommodating. After 35 minutes waiting for our food we asked what the hold up was and told him we needed our food right away. Instead of an apology for the long delay or letting us know her would quickly check, he just smirked at us in a very condescending manner. He did check and came back saying our ticket was next up. (As a former waitress I don't understand why he didn't wait in the kitchen to quickly grab it and bring it our). Our food didn't come for over 40 minutes. In the end we had 10 minutes to eat. It was such an unenjoyable experience.
Came here for brunch in the seated area. Food was overall good.i didn't care for the sausage in the omlettes. Hashbrowns were great and crisp.
We went here for our daughter's birthday. The fool was great! My daughter is Vegan, and they had many good options for her. She loved it! Our waitress was great too!
We always enjoy the food at French Meadow and Bluestem Bar. However, we were seated at a table in the bar area and it was so loud it was difficult to carry on a conversation.
Great food and great service! I'll definitely being going back soon!
The tables are packed so tightly I almost got smashed in the face when the guy at the next table was putting on his coat to leave, and our table was bumped whenever any of our neighbors got up for any reason. Perhaps because of this crowding, the noise level was so loud we could barely hear each other. Our waiter, though very nice, was not attentive. We sat for quite a while before being asked for our drink order, and he forgot to bring something we asked for (I forget what).
The food and drinks were very good, however. We've eaten at French Meadow many times and will again. I'll just ask not to be placed in the back room again.
The food was great. My boys loved the bison burgers and my husband, the braised meat with greens. He couldn't say enough about it. My meal was the organic healing plate, consisting of rice, beans, sweet potato, tempeh,etc....however, the portion size was huge. Probably a couple could share this. I let 3 others at the table sample my meal and still took it home and it fed both my husband and myself the next evening!!! The server lead me to believe that it was a smaller meal since I didn't have a huge appetite that evening. This should be a shared meal for 2.
Marshall was our waiter and we loved him. He was perfect!
3 girlfriends went to dinner and we were WOWed by the quality of the food. One of us went back 2 days later to have what one of the others had ordered! The Miso glazed salmon was definitely the hit of the meal, though the special pulled pork pasta was a masterful dish as well. Loved our cocktails, wine and the ambiance. Truly a gem. I'll be back with my husband next time. The portions are quite generous and I know he'll be up for the Old Fashioned.
Our server was very attentive, food was fresh and delicious, we had a semi-circular booth in the rear of the restaurant which was perfect for our group of 5 to allow conversation in a spot somewhat removed from the rest of the restaurant. Great spot!
Food and atmosphere was good, but service was lacking. We arrived and I told them we had a reservation and they looked panicked. They seated us while we waited for the rest of our guests to arrive. The rest of our party then got seated at a different table and it took calling them to realize this. The hostess and wait staff seemed very confused and we got tossed around to a few different waitresses. I would go back hoping for a less confusing experience.
Overall, everything was exceptional. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was warm and comfortable. We were seated in a back nook- just behind a wall of wine racks. My girlfriend and I loved it. It was as if the place was our own, especially once the dinner rush simmered down. My only gripe is that we had set a reservation for 7:30, and didn’t get seated until 8:15. Which normally is absolutely fine; however, the hostess wasn’t keeping track of who had arrived first. She proceeded to seat two couple that came after us- which is just a bit of a bummer, but mistakes happen. Other than that, I had a phenomenal experience and look forward to my next visit.
The food in the dining room at French Meadow is excellent, but don't visit during a busy weekend. The service was inexcusably slow, even factoring in the extra time it takes to craft such delicious food. We weren't waited on at all for 15 minutes. Our drink order took 30 minutes to arrive and our entrees took over an hour. (And during that hour, no one was asked if they wanted another drink.) On top of that, the wait staff forgot parts of the order entirely and failed to deliver all of the dishes at the same time. Just.
Too bad. It's a beautiful space. But by the end, I was embarrassed to have brought together a small group at 6:30 to spend 2.5 hours on a one course meal.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend who frequents this place. Unfortunately we visited on a night where something must have gone terribly wrong with the reservations system and dining room management. Since our friend who recommended the place was there with us, I know this was not a typical night. We had a reservation but when the walk-ins in front of us were seated first I was disappointed. When we finally had a table I was a little annoyed that the "high top" option I selected in open table wasn't acknowledged (but, this was not a deal breaker). Then things just continued to go downhill. We waited 10+ minutes and no one came to our table (we had to go find someone). The new guy (started 90 minutes before we arrived) brought us waters and wasn't prepared to take drink orders...but he ultimately did because our server still had not visited our table and it was going on 25 minutes. Finally we got our drinks...actually it was just one drink, the other two were out of stock so 2 people in our group of 3 had to revisit the menu (it's okay, this stuff happens). We finally got all the drinks and since our server still had not been found, the "manager" had the water guy take our order. It took well over an hour to get our food (which was delicious). What made this the most uncomfortable dining experience I've had in a while was when the "manager" came by to tell us a sad story about how the chef quit and something about someone's mom having cancer...went on to tell us all about how the dining room manager is new but has a phenomenal resume and how lucky they are to have her. I know she was trying to explain the inexcusable, but it was handled poorly. It's too bad we were only in Minneapolis less than two days and chose to visit this restaurant when they were having a rough night (major understatement) because I'm sure this is normally quite a lovely restaurant. I'd still like to acknowledge the kitchen staff for preparing a delicious meal for us.
Great service and fresh tasty food.
Good food and pleasant atmosphere, the service could have been better and friendly, suggest a bigger menu.
Our reservation was for 7:30PM. When we arrived we were told that they had over booked and we would have to wait for a table and would not get the booth we had requested.
Our waiting time was only about 15 minutes when we were seated at a small table between two other couples. Not the night out I was expecting but the food was excellent.
We'd booked a reservation at Bluestem for Valentine's Day dinner, and when we arrived, the host told us "We overbooked for tonight, so it'll be about a 30-45-minute wait." No apology, no offer to take a drink order while we waited, just "I'll show you to the waiting area." There were a lot of embarrassed, uncomfortable-looking couples waiting there--so many that we doubted we'd get in before an hour after our reserved time. We were too hungry to wait that long, so we left. I'm still stunned at Bluestem's rudeness, leaving customers in the lurch like that on a special occasion and not having the decency to make any effort toward making it up to them. If you read other review sites, you'll see that the service at Bluestem is hit or miss. For me, their food is not worth rolling the dice again.
Best mussels we have EVER had. Fantastic menu and tremendous flavors.
Hadn't been here for 20 years. I was pleasantly surprised by all of the upgrades. It is a very nice restaurant now.
Great service! Teen daughter trying out vegetarian diet currently and she was disappointed in her veggie burger meal. I had salmon curry and that special was excellent! The sauce was amazing. Everyone else thought their meals were okay. Would love to come in to town to try the breakfast menu.
I chose this restaurant based on the menu with several vegetarian and vegan options. The menu did not disappoint, the drinks and food were both very good. I was let down by the level of service, I'm not sure if it was the kitchen, bar, or our server, but the evening progressed very slowly and it did not seem overly busy in the restaurant. My reservation was for 7:00, we were seated around 7:20, but did not get served our first drinks until closer to 8:00 and the meal wasn't over until around 9:30 (we paid and left promptly after finishing our main courses). Given this, it seems the restaurant must have been understaffed for a Friday evening. I would visit French Meadow again, but probably as quick service, not sit down.
Food was pedestrian. Service was slow, unapologetic and unfriendly.
Great place - always enjoy French Meadow!
Long wait for table (with reservation); table location was freezing cold (we ate with our winter jackets on); long wait to place order, long wait for drinks, long wait for food
The place was nice as well as the art work in the women's bathroom. The service from the host was quick and she sat us and actually read the notes and wished me a Happy Birthday. The server didn't even know it was a birthday booking but that was ok with me. She seemed to be in a rush. We didn't even get our water until we were half way done with our dinner because she totally forgot about it in the beginning. The vegan pasta entree I ordered was not what I expected nor did it have flavor, so I asked for red chili pepper flakes to improve the taste of it. I thought the sauce was a red sauce but apparently it seemed to be a carrot sauce. The restaurant should at least address what sauce is in the entree. I thought it was a red sauce with vegetables added in the sauce because on the menu stated only the vegetables. The fruit tart was good. We didn't get asked for refills on our beverages and I had ice tea. I would still come back to give this place a 2nd try but ordering something different off the menu and hope the server is more attentive.
Great health option place! My daughter is Vegan and I eat very health too and it has amazing options. Get service, good drinks and just a great place to dine.
We love French Meadow but this visit was disappointing due to a poor server. We waiting for over 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our server and then it took another several minutes to get our drinks. She seemed to be very unaware, asked if we had our appetizer when he actually had finished it. Very inattentive. Not our typical experience at FM.
I love French Meadow! So many options for any type of dietary restrictions you may have. I’m not vegan but I love trying their vegan dishes because they are so good!!!
Very reliable restaurant for good healthy food. Blue Stem is a beautiful bar. Server was superb.
Met friends for dinner before going to the theater. Everyone liked their food.
We were disappointed with the long wait, food mix-ups and disappointing service. We waited over a half hour for our French fries and when they arrived, they were barely warm. They tasted like they had sat on the counter too long before bringing to our table or had been reheated. Our main entree was supposed to be vegetarian but it came with chicken mixed in. We had to wait another 10 minutes for it to be remade while some of our table ate. The table next to us got their food way before us and they had a party of 12. Our family used to eat here every weekend but we stopped eating here due to the inconsistent and poor service. Last night after a year off from eating here, I went at my son's request for a special evening, but alas, nothing had changed. The service was still very poor and now it was apparent, the quality was going downhill as well. Go somewhere else for a special occasion.
