French Meadow Cafe & Bluestem Bar Ratings and Reviews
This is one of our favorite go to restaurants. The food and drink is always good and they have a great selection of vegetarian options. Usually the service is good as well, however, this time is was terrible! We waited 25 minutes for our scheduled table, then 25 minutes for the server and even when the restaurant thinned out we asked for more water and never received it and our when we asked for the check we waited another 15-20 minutes....hopefully this was just a bad night
Wife's birthday. 4 people. Very good food. Wonderful beer, half priced. Delicious chocolate deserts, with a birthday candle. Absolutely great waitress. No nonsense, totally attentive, very sweet, the best. Great birthday dinner for my wife. The bar, large booths and atmosphere in Blue Stem is outstanding. Be back soon.
I have loved French Meadow forever and a couple years ago we ate at Bluestem for an anniversary dinner and it was SO GOOD. But this time it SO MEDIOCRE. Disapointed. The cheese plate was a wonderful way to start but I got the tempeh Reuben and I'm not even sure the tempeh was cooked, it was cold. My husband got the veggie burger and both the bun and the burger was so crumbly he gave up trying to eat it... his parents had the pork chop special and they both liked that a lot so that was a high point. Our kids got he macaroni and cheese and neither of them would eat it. The server was excellent. Apparently he usually works at the other location so he was a little confused at times but super helpful nonetheless.
We have been here a handful of times. We have found some dinner items such as the salad and mussels consistent. We went there tonight and sat outside, the service was slow. We had the apple and cheddar salad and it was great as always. Unfortunately we ordered the mussels and it was oily and over salted coupled with a buttered bread made this hard to enjoy. The server said it was prepared as it should have been. There are a number of other options around I would choose before going back even though they do have a great space inside or out!
I have eaten brunch outside at French Meadow before but this was the first time I have had dinner here. We did eat inside and I found it to be a very inviting atmosphere. I love the lights and branches on the wall. Very creative! We ate, drank & visited for three hours. It was a Wednesday evening & they were not overly busy so we felt comfortable just taking our time. The service was very good & so was the food. Thank you for a lovely evening French Meadow!! We will be back! ☺
Hmm, Bluestem was off its game. The squash ravioli, while satisfyingly al dente, was swimming in oil and garnished with overly salty sage leaves. The veggie burger was just OK--the stale bun didn't help. Service was slow even though the restaurant wasn't busy. We'll hesitate returning, as there are so many other choices in the area.
We LOVE French Meadow. My husband and I met in fell in love in Elliot park nearly 8 years ago. Since then we’ve always gone to French Meadow for special dates. I’ve always had diet restrictions and French Meadow has always had something I can eat. We are now vegans and we can enjoy everything from the wine menu to desserts. We will continue coming back!
The food was amazing but it is a bit more costly than my usual places. My waitress was amazing about checking for tree nuts in my choices. I have an anaphylactic allergy to tree nuts and she was so amazing and patient when I asked her about tree nuts as ingredients! I will definitely go back just for the amazing service and great atmosphere!
Due to traffic we arrived for our reservation slightly late, but were assured that there was plenty of time for us to dine and make it to an evening concert. I would estimate that the restaurant was about 1/2 to 2/3 full. After we were seated, it took 10 -15 minutes for our waitress first stop by (this was aggravated by the fact that she stopped to greet and take orders from a nearby table that arrived 10 minutes after us). I figured some miscommunication with hostess, and thought nothing of it.
Food service was quick, wine recommendation was on point, food quality was extremely good. One dinner was vegetarian and gluten free and still potential menu items abounded.
However, after we had eaten, and our waitress was aware of time constraints, it took 10+ minutes for her to run our credit card. She forgot to bring back the requested to go boxes, which then took another 10 minutes to grab. All in all these three periods of waiting were considerably longer than the time to fire and prepare the dinners.
Will potentially come back, but the spotty service is significantly out of line for the ambiance and caliber of the food.
French Meadow Cafe and Bluestem is the restaurant not to be confused with their carryout bakery (French Meadow Cafe and Bakery). The menu is varied and interesting. There are lots of options for vegetarians and vegans, but carnivores will be plenty happy too. Good service, pretty atmosphere and a great wine list all make for a lovely evening.
We've been to the French Meadow a few times and I don't know what happened on Thursday night but it was terrible. The food was too salty and greasy. We did send it back and that's not my m.o. I brought friends there and was actually embarrassed to have suggested it.
The Spa salad was amazing, the best tofu I have ever had. The open faced steak sandwich was delicious, a little light on the steak in my opinion. Fries were fresh and tasted great. My wife is vegan, she got the butternut squash ravioli, she loved it but the oil was a little overdone. We loved our meals and will definitely be back.
What a great spot to dine! My family of 5 went to French Meadow and we were impressed. My daughter is vegan and there are plenty of great options for her and the whole family. Great drink and beer selections, large portions of food and a great price! Oh and what a fabulous bakery area too! Go!
