Eating outside was wonderful! We were tucked away from the wind in a cute little area with lights strung up with wind chimes and music.
All of the above. The restaurant was great. However, Open Table screwed up and everyone who made reservations on Open Table did not get communicated to the restaurant. The restaurant did their best to accommodate us and we got seated in a reasonable time and were served very well.
Great drinks and food was decent. I’ve had far better experiences with the St. Paul location. For Minneapolis.. It took far too long to receive our meals and the place wasn’t even that busy. We came for a late afternoon reservation and understandably the staff was frazzled after the lunch hours, I’m sure. However, they never took a second to breathe and our server was a mess but easily forgiven. Our table and another had a 1.5 hour wait while tables seated well after us had already eaten. Lost tickets are one thing but then the staff didn’t really check on us after we asked - just could’ve been handled better instead of hiding from the mistakes. The drinks were great - nice bar. Watery and very, very late food.
Horrible horrible ruin to mothers day. Their computer system and open table was down. Got us in 30 min after our reservation only to tell us it was an hour more back up to get any food in the kitchen. Come on! Horrible. And no apology, gift certificate, comp food offered (aka customer service 101). So bummed.
Never disappoints! Love having a variety of options!
We had a wonderful time on the outside patio wilt my elderly mom who is in a wheelchair and needs handicap assistance.it was our 3 rd visit and week most certainly be back again. Thanks for the wonderful Sunday afternoon.
The Open Table Reservation system wasn’t working for this restaurant so we had no reservation, for lunch, on Mother’s Day. The restaurant was packed, line out the door and they found a place for us at the bar. We waited for everything, food took forever, we did get a comped drink which was very, very good. Check took forever. Staff was very nice. Spread thin maybe. Sitting at the bar was not comfortable but we likely would not have gotten the drinks elsewhere.
Refused to honor our Open Table reservation on Mother’s Day.
Reservation system wasn’t working and they had run out of high chairs.
Good food, nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Open Table was not functioning right and French Meadow didn't know about all their reservations. Everything suffered. I will never go back on a Saturday night.
Great vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options. Fantastic ambiance with a captivating center bar. Variety of classic menu choices with fresh twists, e.g., Salmon, mac & cheese, burgers, fish/tempeh tacos, salads. It is necessary to return and explore the entire menu. Fantastic service—polite, responsive, and intriguing.
My husband is vegan and I follow a special diet, which makes it difficult to find restaurants to eat at. We found French Meadow online and gave it a try. Sooo glad we did. There were numerous menu items for both of us to choose from. I love that the menu clearly specifies gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian. My husband had the blackened tempeh tacos and I had the almond encrusted walleye. We shared the berry cream tart for dessert which was both vegan and gluten free. We haven’t been able to share a dessert in years!! All the food we ordered was incredibly delicious, presented beautifully, came out in an impressively short amount of time. Service was very good. We will be back and it’s safe to say this is our new favorite restaurant!
Celebrated my daughters college graduation and the service we received was very disappointing. We waited an hour until our appetizers were served and tables beside us were complaining as well. I will be contacting the owner about our visit.
I have a nut and a dairy allergy and found that I had lots of options to choose from. Very good food!
Perfect place to reconnect and catch up with a good friend over a great dinner and nice wine! Love the lighting and feel. Warm and inviting
Met friends for a "before the show" early dinner. Great options for everyone. Went with the blueberry iced tea instead of other alcoholic libations - we were not disappointed. Friends ordered the fish tacos and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of greens on the side (lovely salad.) Friend and I split the curry tofu grain bowl. Yummerific.
We decided to eat here when some friends were in town and we needed some vegan breakfast options. The food was average. When one person ordered blueberry pancakes she was asked if she wanted one or two and she said two. They were the size of a dinner plate and very dense and and extra $5. It would have been nice of the server to tell her more before asking. We ordered one coffee at the table with cream and sugar but it took the sewer so long to bring the sugar that the coffee wasn't hot anymore. The restaurant was not very busy on a Thursday at 9am so a reservation was made but didn't seem necessary. Would most likely try somewhere else in uptown for breakfast next time.
Always a favorite for us, this time the food not up to par.
Maybe a bad night but not in a rush to return.
Great food selection and great professional service.
Great food selection for a variety of food preferences and requirements in our group. Fresh. Tasty. Great service.
Service was slow and inattentive. We were told they were understaffed that night.
I had requested one of their nice big booths when I made reservations as we were there to celebrate a birthday and the main dining room is lovely, but they didn’t have any available when we arrived and we got stuck in a back room, which was disappointing! Food was very good! We’d chosen French Meadow for their gluten free and vegetarian options.
It was so tasty, but the only issue is that I got a very little portion for 24 dollars and the table next to me got the same entree but with a bigger portion.
The French Meadow made the top five of our best restaurants. Great service and food.
Vegetarian and Vegan food with taste, texture, and visual appeal- The service was professional and personal. It was a successful dining experience for all of us in the party.
The food was, for the most part good. My husband had the snapper, which was the Special, and it was NOT good. It was over-cooked and burnt on the bottom. Service was also not good. We were there on a Sunday evening, so there was not a lot of people, and yet we still waited a long while for our drinks to be served. Finally, the beers and wine were brought out (we had 5 people at our table and had a reservation)--but the 2 members of our party that had cocktails had to wait another 10 minutes for there drinks, despite the place not being busy. After receiving our drinks, the waitress stopped by several times to apologize for the delay in getting our food, which took over an hour. Really did not have anything too complicated--the Snapper special, 2 burgers, a pasta dish and a chicken dish--so not a clue what the hold-up was. I have been here before for brunch, and it is a very busy place in the morning. I don't recall waiting a long time when here for brunch. Given the fact that the food was so-so and the service was excruciatingly slow, I am not sure I would come back for anything other than brunch.
The green curry with fried tofu is incredible!! Food is always delicious and consistent.
We will return again and again for the Zen salad with salmon!
Good vegan selection
We have been to your restaurant many times and have enjoyed it in the past. This past Saturday night we had a horrendous experience. I will not be back AND I will not only not recommend but will advise against going to Blue Stem.
We had very poor service and the restaurant, plates, glasses and flatware were all very dirty. Food was marginal at best.
We had reservations. When we arrived we let the hostess that we only had an hour as we were going to the Guthrie theater. Typically that would be plenty of time. Instead of acknowledging that and sitting us right away (we had reservations and there were tables immediately ready), she asked us to sit and went back to man the empty hostess stand. There was not line (other than her talking to my husband who had just entered from parking the car).
When we sat down, two out of four of our appetizer plates were dirty as well as my fork had dried lettuce stuck to it. My water had a black thing floating in it.
We told the waiter right away that we were up against theater tickets and we ordered right. Our waiter was not the least bit accommodating. After 35 minutes waiting for our food we asked what the hold up was and told him we needed our food right away. Instead of an apology for the long delay or letting us know her would quickly check, he just smirked at us in a very condescending manner. He did check and came back saying our ticket was next up. (As a former waitress I don't understand why he didn't wait in the kitchen to quickly grab it and bring it our). Our food didn't come for over 40 minutes. In the end we had 10 minutes to eat. It was such an unenjoyable experience.
Came here for brunch in the seated area. Food was overall good.i didn't care for the sausage in the omlettes. Hashbrowns were great and crisp.
We went here for our daughter's birthday. The fool was great! My daughter is Vegan, and they had many good options for her. She loved it! Our waitress was great too!
We always enjoy the food at French Meadow and Bluestem Bar. However, we were seated at a table in the bar area and it was so loud it was difficult to carry on a conversation.
Great food and great service! I'll definitely being going back soon!
The tables are packed so tightly I almost got smashed in the face when the guy at the next table was putting on his coat to leave, and our table was bumped whenever any of our neighbors got up for any reason. Perhaps because of this crowding, the noise level was so loud we could barely hear each other. Our waiter, though very nice, was not attentive. We sat for quite a while before being asked for our drink order, and he forgot to bring something we asked for (I forget what).
The food and drinks were very good, however. We've eaten at French Meadow many times and will again. I'll just ask not to be placed in the back room again.
The food was great. My boys loved the bison burgers and my husband, the braised meat with greens. He couldn't say enough about it. My meal was the organic healing plate, consisting of rice, beans, sweet potato, tempeh,etc....however, the portion size was huge. Probably a couple could share this. I let 3 others at the table sample my meal and still took it home and it fed both my husband and myself the next evening!!! The server lead me to believe that it was a smaller meal since I didn't have a huge appetite that evening. This should be a shared meal for 2.
Marshall was our waiter and we loved him. He was perfect!
3 girlfriends went to dinner and we were WOWed by the quality of the food. One of us went back 2 days later to have what one of the others had ordered! The Miso glazed salmon was definitely the hit of the meal, though the special pulled pork pasta was a masterful dish as well. Loved our cocktails, wine and the ambiance. Truly a gem. I'll be back with my husband next time. The portions are quite generous and I know he'll be up for the Old Fashioned.
Our server was very attentive, food was fresh and delicious, we had a semi-circular booth in the rear of the restaurant which was perfect for our group of 5 to allow conversation in a spot somewhat removed from the rest of the restaurant. Great spot!
