Freds Madison at Barneys New York Ratings and Reviews
I’ve dined at Fred’s many times over the years but found yesterday’s experience to be very disappointing. The food was terrible - flavorless. My friend & I each had salads and neither had any flavor whatsoever. Such a disappointment. While the server was attentive, I found the hostess to be quite rude - she never looked me in the eye. I will not return to Fred’s again.
You would think with the exorbitant prices they charge for food they would upgrade the furniture, lighting and decor. The place was shabby and in need of repair.
On the food front, I’ve have pasta dishes that are 10x better and a fraction of the cost than the orecchiette garbage they served.
Do yourself and favor: stick with buying the high-end merchandise at Barneys, not the cuisine.
Waitress took our order never saw her again until way after part of our lunch arrived. Finally got her attention asked about the French fries that never arrived, she just walked away. French fries never arrived, then she brought the bill and told me “see, I took off the cost of the fries” never an apology, I wanted the fries and this rude person had the attitude.
Nice spot and food is quite good, however very noisy and service was very very slow! We waited for everything. We were also asked whIch types of water we wanted times by 3 different waiters! Then we had to wait ages from r each stage of the meal and even the check. This and the noise really spoiled what should have been a nice (and not inexpensive) meal.
Always enjoy Freds. Its a lovely treat@Barneys-whether having lunch, coffee, dinner or just drinks. The service is impeccable. The food is tasty. Lots of healthy selections but also good old fashioned comfort food. Desserts were delicious. The portion sizes are large but it is also very expensive $$$. Good for business lunch if you're in the area, "girls shopping day out" type of get together or even romantic dinner. My business client enjoyed the lunch and the setting.
Ordered one thing!! Expensive steak over arugula, no balsamic or onions, medium RARE!! Come out well done with onions!!! Honestly?? Get it right!! Sent back, they redid, still came out loaded with onions!!!
This place caters to high end clientele, I don't get the screw ups
Server was very pleasant.
Made a reservation and was seated at the worst table in the restaurant with a divider next to the table and an obstructed view. Never go there at lunch. It was busy, noisy and the service indifferent. My server did ask if I had any dietary restrictions when I ordered the Fred's Chopped Chicken Salad but the attention ended there. We had no salt and pepper at our table had to ask the table next to ours. My chicken was stringy and the salad very bland. I guess good if you are on a taste restricted diet. I'll never eat here again.
Everything was great and we sat at my favorite table. But could you ask them to not strip the tables for closing around the people that are still eating? At 9:30pm they started taking everything off the empty around us. We weren't the only table finishing up. It was rude, uncomforatble, and killed the ambiance! We got the hint after our expensive meal. Time to get out.
