Freds Madison at Barneys New York Ratings and Reviews
Always enjoy Freds. Its a lovely treat@Barneys-whether having lunch, coffee, dinner or just drinks. The service is impeccable. The food is tasty. Lots of healthy selections but also good old fashioned comfort food. Desserts were delicious. The portion sizes are large but it is also very expensive $$$. Good for business lunch if you're in the area, "girls shopping day out" type of get together or even romantic dinner. My business client enjoyed the lunch and the setting.
Ordered one thing!! Expensive steak over arugula, no balsamic or onions, medium RARE!! Come out well done with onions!!! Honestly?? Get it right!! Sent back, they redid, still came out loaded with onions!!!
This place caters to high end clientele, I don't get the screw ups
Server was very pleasant.
Made a reservation and was seated at the worst table in the restaurant with a divider next to the table and an obstructed view. Never go there at lunch. It was busy, noisy and the service indifferent. My server did ask if I had any dietary restrictions when I ordered the Fred's Chopped Chicken Salad but the attention ended there. We had no salt and pepper at our table had to ask the table next to ours. My chicken was stringy and the salad very bland. I guess good if you are on a taste restricted diet. I'll never eat here again.
Everything was great and we sat at my favorite table. But could you ask them to not strip the tables for closing around the people that are still eating? At 9:30pm they started taking everything off the empty around us. We weren't the only table finishing up. It was rude, uncomforatble, and killed the ambiance! We got the hint after our expensive meal. Time to get out.
For years I've dined at Freds whenever I've visited Manhattan & everything was par for the course for this visit until my waiter vanished. I never saw him again after my food was brought to the table. Empty drink, no offer of a refill or another selection. Empty plates on the table. It's not busy. Was there a shift change? Is he on a break? What's going on? I think I could have literally walked out of the restaurant and no one would have noticed. Fortunately, the manager in charge took care of everything. Again, I've been going to Freds for years and know that this has to be a rare experience, but it's inexcusable.
Lovely room and realistic wine list. Had the Friday Shabbat supper, Josef Flanken and stuffed cabbage with a surprisingly affordable Beaune. This place is s hidden gem. Scenery at lunch but elegant yet unpretentious at night. And great comfort food. Unique.
See and be seen and make sure to dress in a very cool outfit. Mostly ladies lunch but fun watching the scene as there are always some well known faces or beautiful people and great fashion....food very acceptable....but nothing exciting. Fast service, good service but very impersonal. fun place to catch up with friends. then you can shop or just look at beautiful shoes, great clothing.
