It was great! The worst part of it was going through the skeleton of once was an amazing store.
Absolutely perfect experience, can’t wait to go back.
So glad it’s still open!
Sad, dont see how its gonna make it a free standing place.
Was strange to be at Fred's and see it dead on a Friday afternoon. Obviously a result of Barneys closing out. I hope they can get the sparkle and vibrance back- the food and service was still very good just felt 'dismal'
Not what it used to be. Won’t go again.
The restaurant said they were closed when we got there.
Empty because the store is closing. But good food and service.
I purchased a $25 entree. At first I got a $60 bill. I pointed out the error and got a $40 bill. It took way too long to get the right bill.
Wonderful meal at the legendary Fred's at Barneys New York! I call it 'stylish comfort food'... amazing Tuscan Meatloaf, phenomenal Garlic Mashed Potatoes, velvety Chicken Francese, real NY Pizza, and awesome homemade Chicken Soup from a secret Pressman family recipe for whatever ails ya. And by far the best Chicken Parmigiana I've ever had, can hold it's own against any lauded Italian trattoria. Run, don't walk to Fred's because Barney's is going out of business and the restaurant will only be there as long as the lease holds out!
Having a meal in a dying department store was more than a little weird. But the food was great!!
So sorry this place is closing. We will especially miss Aggie
Service lacked snap. Food lacked zap. Everyone/Everything seemed to be the walking dead.
Sadly the food and staff feel like the store’s demise.
Reception staff surly.
Incredibly overpriced for what you get.
Two salads and one omelet--with no drinks-- should NOT come to $145.00 before tip.
Fred’s is the best lunch in the upper east side. Always consistent in a light filled space. I hope this restaurant can be saved. So sad to see Barneys closing.
I will miss you! Thank you for always making me feel special.
A neighborhood gem!
Not what it used to be but still ok
Wonderful ambiance for close friends and family!
Walking thru Barney's closing sale on our way to Fred's was depressing. The decline in service since our last visit was disappointing. We are going to remember Fred's as it always was-a fun place for a great lunch.
It is time for it to go the way of Barneys
Sad, it isn't the same with the store closing. Everything seemed to be on the decline...not the Fred's we know and love. Spirit, service, food, menu, everything seemed like D-List Fred's.
Dumpy interior. more light, flowers , pictures could help
Terrible service and the food was so overpriced for what we received. The presentation was just a mosh of good and it was so unappetizing.
Great food, nice menu variety, delicious cocktails
I’ve always had a great experience at Fred’s. The food, service, atmosphere is wonderful. I’m now concerned with Barney’s closing what will happen with Fred’s. Go now before it’s too late.
Barneys is closing so the atmosphere within the store is like a tag sale and not a great atmosphere.
The hostesses were both very rude and quirt. No warmth or welcoming at all. Also felt a bit rushed to turn over the table. Servers were very nice however.
Just might want to replace the rude hostesses.
If I ever drown, I hope it is in Fred’s chicken noodle soup! Delish:)
Worst meal I ever had there. Not the same Freds it was for so many years.
Muy rico , pero se demoraron mucho
This is a funky location in the 9th floor of the Barney’s department store, so finding it can be a challenge for first-timers. The food and service were fantastic and the ambiance inside the restaurant is nice. We stayed right until closing and finding your way out of Barney’s after all the doors to the street (but one) have been locked. There are no signs whatsoever pointing you into the restaurant or back out, so enjoy that little adventure.
I eat here often. In fact I ate here last week as well. The service on Sunday was not good and the restaurant was fully staffed even though it was empty as it was an off dining period. The food was off. Overall, it’s my go to when I am in Barney’s or in that neighborhood.
I think Barney’s closing is a metaphor for the overall experience of dining here. Poor food presentation and taste was even blander. It all had the taste of reheated frozen or precooked food. Seated at an awful table even though the restaurant was quite empty. And while not being expensive, it certainly isn’t cheap, especially for the quality level of the whole experience.
We have a good time and taste a very good dishes, although one of them was very spicy and we can’t advertise the ingredient, but it was a great experience
The food was very tasty. The service wasn’t very good at all. Such a shame.
It’s a very good place for lunch in NYC. The place was hustling and bustling. My complaint is it was loud and my table was cramped. The food and server were very good.
